Fun with Flickr
Many of you may have heard of Flickr (http://www.flickr.com/) or even have your own Flickr account. It's a great way to share photos and layouts and a wonderful place to be inspired by others!
Here are some basic things you can do with Flickr:
Share your photos - You decide who sees your photos - designate friends and family or make them public for everyone to see. You can also share photos privately with others who don't have a Flickr account by using Flickr's Guest Pass.
Tell a story with your photos - Add notes right on your photos!
Add tags - Place your photos into categories and help keep them organized. Use the "Organizer" to drag and drop photos into sets and collections.
Favorite photos - You can keep track of inspiring photos or ones you want to remember by making it a "Favorite."
Easily connect your Flickr account – Connect to Facebook and Twitter or post photos from Flickr right to your blog!
Add a Flickr Badge - To your blog or website to display your Flickr photos.
Embed a Slideshow - On your site or blog.
Upload photos - From your computer, email, browser or cell phone. There are several apps for uploading directly to Flickr from iPhoto, Picasa, Windows Live Gallery, and more!
Once you have uploaded your photos and organized them into sets and collections, you can do some fun things like create a mosaic!
This is a mosaic I created a few years ago when my husband and I celebrated our 20th anniversary.
The Mosaic Maker is a snap to use - it guides you through choosing how many rows and columns you want and what photo sets or collections to use. This is a fun thing to share with family and friends and add to your blog!
You can also create a letter-size calendar or even a CD jewel case calendar to print out or send to family and friends.
The Calendar application guides you easily through the process of creating a calendar, plus having your photos uploaded on Flickr makes it easy to pick and choose the photos for your calendar.
Adding frames and interesting effects with the Framer application is something else you can do with Flickr.
I used the Canvas Panels frame on the photo below.
Using the frame application you can also create your own To Do list like the one below.
There are so many fun things you can do with your photos on Flickr and what I love the most is how easy it is to upload my photos and play with these fun applications!

Taking Your Picture in a Mirror
Note: Tutorial created using Adobe Photoshop CS3 and Windows Vista
So often in our photography efforts, we are the ones behind the camera. As the family memory makers, it's hard to get images of ourselves. Efforts to be included in the photos often result in blurred images, poor cropping, bad lighting, or cut-off portions. Frustrating, huh?!
Have you ever considered taking a picture of yourself in a mirror? It's not as tricky as you think. If you are shooting indoors, you can set the white balance on your camera to reflect the lighting that you have in your bathroom or hallway. You can shoot with the camera up to your face in a picture-shooting position, or hold your camera off to the side so your full face is in the picture. These kinds of shots tell a little about you and your interest in photography.
Don't be limited by the just the mirrors in your home. Remember the other mirrors in your world that would give you creative images of yourself - the car mirrors, the mirror section in the department store, the mirror wall at the local kids' museum.
You can shoot straight into the mirror for just an image of you. If you shoot off center, you can get all kinds of interesting things in the background. These kinds of creative shots can tell more about you than you think. What does the background you capture with you say about you? What if you held a hand mirror with your back to a wall mirror and shot into the hand mirror? How do the angles increase the creativity in your image taking? Taking a picture in a mirror can be very fun and creative. Give it a try, and explore your mirrors in your world around you. You may be surprised how many new creative reflections you find!

Dust off those thinking caps and hunting boots! We're having a Summer Scavenger Hunt, and you're invited! Join us for the July Message Board Game, where each Monday through Saturday during the month of July, a member of the Welcoming Committee will post a clue in the official game thread. The clue will describe a product from the Scrap Girls Boutique. To participate, search the Boutique for the product and post a link to the product page in the official game thread.
But wait, there's more! In a new twist to the scavenger hunt game, on certain days you will be sent to the Scrap Girls Gallery to look for layouts using specific products or collections, and then post a link to your layout comment in the official game thread.
Three winners will be drawn from all the members who correctly identify a product or find Gallery layouts throughout the month. Each winner will receive a $10 Gift Certificate to the Scrap Girls Boutique! Good luck in your search!

July Monthly Layout Contest: As the United States celebrates its independence this month, we'd love to see some examples of how you've gained independence! For July's Monthly Layout Contest, show us your layouts featuring someone displaying independence! It could be a toddler learning independence or a young person out on their own for the first time. You could even scrap about a time you displayed some independence! Be sure to include some journaling to support your photos. Post your layouts in the July Monthly Layout Gallery before Midnight MT on July 31st. Be sure to list your credits in the description or under the EXIF Properties. If your layout is one of the two chosen winners, you will receive a $10 Gift Certificate to the Scrap Girls Boutique!
