Our society is obsessed with health and fitness. We think about it. We watch television shows about it. We spend vast amounts of money, trying to come up with quick fixes to achieve it.
We look at fit people and wonder what they are doing right. We look at unfit people and wonder what they are doing wrong. If we are not fit, we worry that the fit people are judging us.
Ever felt that way? I do all the time. In fact, I'm one of those sorry people who watch The Biggest Loser while eating a bowl of ice cream. (Don't tell Bob and Jillian.)
My doctor recently asked me if I was exercising regularly. I said, "No."
She laughed and said, "You are probably one of the most honest people I have met recently. Most people tell me that they are exercising, but they aren't exercising at all."
I laughed, relieved that she wasn't going to yell at me for my bad habits. Instead, she gave me some do-able suggestions and asked me to try to walk at least 15 minutes a day to start out. Because I have fibromyalgia, she recommended that I increase my walking time very slowly – only two minutes more each day per week.
I can't tell you what a relief it was to have someone understand how I felt and that my fibromyalgia causes real issues with exercising. (If I overdo it, I get sick, and it is a long time before I can try again.)
Meanwhile – while I am trying to get a handle on how to exercise without making me ill, I have come up with some wacky suggestions for appearing responsible.
Wear exercise clothing constantly.
Stock my freezer with frozen veggies, skinless chicken breasts, and sugar-free popsicles.
Stuff my shelves with exercise DVDs.
Casually place hand weights on the flat furniture surfaces of my living room.
Hang my defunct gym pass on my key ring.
Drink water from sports bottles.
Leave a gym bag in my car.
Keep a food journal in my purse.
Have an easy-to-do sports hairdo.
Make monthly blog entries about how psyched I am about my program.
Put an exercise goal sheet on my wall.
Keep my former personal trainer's number on my cell phone speed dial list.
Hide my chocolate stash in my filing cabinet.
You see, if the people I meet and the people I live with think I am trying to do something to become fit, they leave me alone to enjoy my ice cream with abandon. I am free to enjoy myself as I am, and – ironically – that makes me feel more like exercising and eating right.
I am in the middle of trying to become fit. Whether or not I am actually going to become fit will be a complete surprise to all of us.

Adding Great Shadows with a Single Click
Note: Tutorial created using Adobe Photoshop CS3 with Windows XP
Have you ever wanted a great drop shadow on your digital scrapbooking layout, but didn't want to do all of the work that is involved in making one? Well, ScrapSimple Tools - Actions: Deep Shadows 6501 PSE and PS Biggie is an action set that can give you great shadows with a single click of your mouse.
Commercial license versions of ScrapSimple Tools - Actions: Deep Shadows 6501 PSE and PS Biggie are also available.
Actions are a fantastic tool that will take a series of complicated steps and turn it into one easy step for you. Click on the play button, and in the blink of an eye, have multiple tasks performed to create an amazing effect. In this case, you'll get a lovely drop shadow.
These samples show the four different directions you can choose your shadow to go in (top left, top right, bottom left, bottom right). This also shows that you can have a small, a medium, or a large sized shadow. Say you have a leaf or a flower that is angled to point to the top right corner of your digital scrapbooking layout. You may want to choose the shadow that also points to the top right corner of your page. You can experiment with the direction of the shadow to come up with some great results.
You can download instructions here in 1 Scrap Girls ScrapSimple Instructions Handbook (Free ScrapSimple basics eBook) that will take you step-by-step through how to install your actions.
Once you have installed ScrapSimple Tools - Actions: Deep Shadows 6501 PSE and PS Biggie into your program this is what the Action Palette looks like. Choose the direction and the size that you want your shadow to go in – then click on it. When the action is highlighted, that means it is chosen. In the screenshot above, the top left-sized small shadow is chosen.
You are ready to play the action through. Click on the arrow icon to push play, and in a matter of seconds, you will have a great drop shadow on your embellishment. This action does all the work for you! I use this action because it is such a time saver.
The drop shadow will be on its own layer. If you change your mind, it is easy to delete the shadow and start over. You can move and change the shadow to your liking.
With the click of a button, you can get great Deep Shadows for your digital scrapbooking embellishments. I like to apply these shadows to foliage, leaves, stems, flowers, branches, twigs, twine, ribbon, butterflies, swirls, tags, string, etc. You can add Deep Shadows to your embellishments to "lift" them off the page.

June Message Board Game: Re-JUNE-venate!
We helped you jumpstart your January and now it's time to re-JUNE-venate your focus on scrapbooking! Join us on the Forum this month for "Re-JUNE-venate!" This is a Meassage Board game and challenge that focuses on taking time to scrapbook regularly despite the little speedbumps of life. When the month is over, you'll have several completed layouts and will have been challenged and treated to some fun along the way... with prize opportunities thrown in as well!
A member of the Welcoming Committee will post a mini-challenge or task each day Monday through Saturday from June 1st - 30th. The tasks will be formatted in LARGE PURPLE FONT for ease of locating them in the game thread as it grows. Some tasks will require Message Board participation, email responses or gallery posting. Read each daily task carefully to see what is required of you.
Those who complete all tasks and submit or post required participation will be entered in a drawing to win one of three $10 Gift Certificates to the Scrap Girls Boutique! Those who complete just the layouts will be entered in a drawing to win one of two $5 Gift Certificates. Those who complete just the speedbumps will be entered in a drawing for one of two $3 Gift Certificates. (Those who complete all tasks will have their name entered in all three drawings!)
Join us in June for some serious scrapbooking re-JUNE-venation!
For complete details, visit the Monthly Message Board Games folder on the Scrap Girls Forum.

Be sure to list your credits in the description or under the EXIF Properties. If your layout is one of the two chosen winners, you will receive a $10 Gift Certificate to the Scrap Girls Boutique!
