Do Twins Run in Your Family?
Today when I was in the Scrap Girls Forum, I couldn't help but notice a thread about finding out at an ultrasound that a set of twins were going to be two girls. It reminded me of when Rick and I found out we were having twins.
We were going to our routine 20-week ultrasound to see if our baby was healthy. Rick was a nervous wreck about the appointment. Since this was our first child, we had no idea what to expect and were just hoping the baby was healthy.
When we entered the ultrasound room, the tech told Rick to sit down on practically the other side of the room while she took all the baby measurements. The tech was very business-like and somewhat cold. She told us she'd answer all our questions and try to determine if we were having a boy or girl but only after she got all the measurements recorded first.
She started moving the ultrasound gadget around taking measurements. She did this for 5-10 minutes and then suddenly stopped.
Complete silence. And more silence.
It was a deafening silence. You could hear a pin drop.
After the longest five minutes of silence in our lives, the tech began to act very strangely. She started furiously moving the ultrasound gadget back and forth over my stomach while looking back and forth from the screen to my chart. This seemed to go on for another 10 minutes as she became more visibly confused.
Panic started to set in. More silence followed.
I began racking my brain trying to figure out what could be wrong. Rick looked like he was going to pass out. The tech was definitely not acting normal and she wasn't talking to us. I didn't "feel" like anything was wrong so I refused to start thinking the worse.
Finally, she stopped and looked at me and said, "Do twins run in your family?"
Umm...huh? Come again?
Rick was completely still and just stared at me.
I finally said, "I don't think twins run in my family, but my cousin has a set of twins."
The tech said, "Well, I see two heads. Did anyone tell you that you are having twins?"
At this point, Rick literally turned white as a sheet and practically fell out of his chair.
He said real quietly, "You see only two, right? Not three?"
The tech started to smile and said, "Yes, there only two. Would you like to know what you are having?"
Two babies, both girls and both healthy!
So that's how our 20-minute routine ultrasound turned into an hour-long, heart-pounding, twin-sized event.
We did have a lot of fun telling the grandparents to "look closer" at the ultrasound photos.
"What does this Baby B mean?"
"Baby B? Oh, well, I guess that would be your second grandchild."
Favorite Product I've designed:
A commercial license version of Wanted Collection is also available.
One my favorite collections is Wanted. I'm absolutely in love with the color palette. It leans towards being a masculine palette, but still has a touch of beauty in the colors. I think the design style of this collection is incredibly versatile for both girl and boy layouts.
Fast and Easy Way to Make Digital Scrapbooking Pages:
Jif 6 Digital Scrapbooking Kits
Ever get frustrated with how long it takes to make digital scrapbooking pages? Want to get a lot of layouts finished in a flash? ScrapGirls.com has recently released a new line of digital scrapbooking kits that makes creating digital scrapbooking pages super easy.
When digital scrapbookers make their layouts, they typically use photo editing software such as Photoshop, Photoshop Elements, or Paint Shop Pro. To create layered digital scrapbooking pages, these software programs use a file type called PSD files.
Typically, the process of creating a layout is as follows:
As each item is added to the PSD file, a new layer is created. The digital scrapbooker needs to arrange them and figure out how the layout will look. This takes time, particularly for a brand-new digital scrapbooker.
The process of making a digital scrapbooking page is dramatically simplified with JIF 6 digital scrapbooking kits because each kit is delivered as a layered PSD. Each layout is professionally designed so you know in advance that the layouts will look great. All the scrapbooker needs to do is add the photos and journaling they wish to use. If desired, the layers can be moved to create completely new looks.

What are monochromatic colors? A monochromatic color scheme uses variations in lightness and darkness of a single color. I think this is best viewed rather than explained:
Monochromatic colors are useful in many layouts. They tend to evoke a sense of calm, peacefulness, elegance, and harmony. A layout made with this type of color scheme tends to be very restful to the eye. Some examples of perfect subject matter for a monochromatic-colored page include weddings, sleeping babies, and a softly colored flower in your garden.
Monochromatic colors are easy to work with. You don't need to worry about whether this flower clashes with that paper. This aspect makes monochromatic schemes especially nice for a beginner to use, yet the elegance assures that the most seasoned scrapbooker will also feel at home using monochromatic colors.
If there is any drawback to monochromatic colors in digital scrapbooking, it is that the main points can be lost if you don't call some attention to them somehow. I find that using a much darker element or a white element near the focal photo helps. The focal photo below is framed by the two curled white edges, and the darker title at the top helps bring the eye right to the top of the photo.
What about the photos on a monochromatic layout? Often the photos will look out of place if they are brightly colored, so I tend to use a photo treatment such as ScrapSimple Tools - Styles: Aged Photos 6301 to tone down the colors. You could also use a black-and-white or sepia action such as ScrapSimple Tools - Actions: Photo Basics 5001 to remove all the color from the photos.
Give monochromatic colors a try, then post your results in the Scrap Girls Gallery. We'd all love to see!
Commercial license versions of Creased N Crinkled - Light Paper Biggie, ScrapSimple Embellishment Templates: Curled Frames, ScrapSimple Tools - Styles: Aged Photos 6301, ScrapSimple Tools - Styles: Chipboard 1801 Mini and Lettering Delights Long Hand Font are also available.
