Why do we want dark hair when we have blond hair and blond hair when we have dark hair?
Why does the cable break right at the critical moment in the movie?
Why are DVD players so hard to run? Why do you need three remote controls to work everything when you want to watch a movie? Why don't universal remote controls work? If they aren't universal, why are they called that?
Why do zippers break when we are in public places? Would it be too much to ask them to refrain from breaking until we get home?
Why does it take a degree for an adult to operate a cell phone correctly?
Why do our eyes make it so difficult to read when we are finally at the age that we have a little time to enjoy books?
Why is the ice cream scoop always in the dishwasher when we want to use it?
Why are there less chocolate raisins in the box than there used to be? I've noticed.
Why is it harder to cross our legs when we are 53 years-old than when we were teenagers?
Why do all of the pens disappear when it comes time to write down a phone message?
Why does the house phone ring after we close the front door?
Why does the printer run out of ink when there is only one page left out of a big print job?
Why does the sprinkler break when you are on vacation?
Why does the dog bark just at the very moment that you are falling asleep?
Why does your fingernail break when you are in the driver's seat?
Why is there always more leftover mashed potatoes than gravy?
Why do we remember that is it our friend's birthday the day after the birthday is over?
Why does mascara get clumpy just when we have an important event to get ready for?
Why do we always run out of shampoo before we run out of the matching conditioner? Do you think that this is some kind of mass merchandising conspiracy to make us keep using the same brand because they know we will keep trying to get it to come out right?
Why do our best spoons fall into the disposal?
Why does an aspirin cost $10 when you get it at the hospital? Why doesn't the doctor let you bring in your own bottle of aspirin so you can use that?
Why does the bag break when you are two feet from the garbage bin?
Why does a puff of wind hit your skirt right when you are climbing out of a car?
Why does spaghetti sauce drip on white shirts but not on red shirts?
Why does it rain when you finally get around to taking your kids to the water park?
Why does your shoelace break when you are camping?
Why is it easier to doze off when you are in church than when you are sitting in your living room?
Why do pictures fall off of the wall just when important company walks into your living room?
Why can you find your calculator when you don't need it, but it isn't in the drawer when it's time to figure out your bills?
Why does our face break-out when we have scheduled a family portrait?
Why does a rock land on our windshield immediately after getting the chips repaired?
Why can't we just relax and enjoy ourselves instead of asking so many questions about everything?
You know what? I think I'm going to try and conquer those remote controls once and for all.
Wish me luck!

How to Remove Yellow Eye from Pets
Note: Tutorial created using Photoshop Elements 8.0
Have you ever taken a photo of your fur-baby only to discover that his or her sweet little eyes look more like the glowing yellow eyes of a monster from a B-movie?
Cats and dogs have a mirror-like membrane on the back of their eyes called a tapetum. This membrane's job is to reflect the light coming into the eyes, resulting in a double exposure of the light, allowing them to see well in near darkness. What does this have to do with glowing yellow or green eyes? As it reflects back light so the animal can see better, it also reflects back the flash from your camera.
That's good information, but what you really want to know is how to get rid of it so you can use an otherwise great picture on your digital scrapbooking layout! I found an easy solution, and your editing software already has the tools you need. All you need to add is a steady hand.
First, open your picture and create a copy to work from. You can do this by clicking on the thumbnail image of your photo layer and clicking Ctrl+J (Layer> Duplicate Layer). This way if you make any errors, you won't destroy your original photo.
Add a blank layer to your Layers Palette by clicking Shift+Ctrl+N (or click on the little square at the bottom left of the Layers Palette) and name it "Black Iris Layer." Make sure your Foreground Color is set to black (if it isn't, just push the letter D and it will default to black.)
Next, open your Brush Tool and select a Soft Round Brush in a size smaller than the yellow section of the eye. Make sure that you have your new Black Iris Layer selected, and then carefully brush over the yellow section. Use your Eraser Tool set to a soft brush to refine the edges.
Create another new layer and name it "White Catch-Lights." Now we are going to add that little sparkle of light that makes their eyes twinkle! Click on the little eye icon beside the "Black Iris Layer" to hide it. By hiding this layer, you will be able to see where those little spots (called catch-lights) naturally occur.
Choose the same brush and try to match the size of those little white catch-lights and change the foreground color to white (pushing X does it automatically). Next, make sure that you have your new "White Catch-Lights" layer selected and then carefully brush over the tiny white dots in your pet's irises.
On the "Black Iris Layer," click on the eye icon again to unhide this layer. It will look as though the only thing reflected in your pet's eyes was a tiny white light. Finally, save your new photo and create that digital scrapbooking layout that captures all your pet means in your eyes!

Creating Titles using Word Art and a Digital Scrapbooking Label Maker
Note: Tutorial created using Photoshop CS3 with Windows 7
Sometimes when you are creating a title, you can find a lot of great Word Art for some of the words, but then others are missing. In those times, I know, your first thought is to pull out your handy dandy label maker and go to town. But now that you are a digital scrapbooker, what's a girl to do?
A great tool for adding in those little words that will finish up a title is ScrapSimple Tools – Actions: Label Maker 5001.
This action will build your own custom word art, complete with some texture and shadows to fill in the extra words that will make your title perfect and unique. I needed a unique set of words for a layout I wanted to do about our newly acquired chickens. (Yep, chickens.) One of our "girls" turned out to be a boy! Now, I would love it if someone made a cute little word art about how my little girl chicken turned out to be a boy, but honestly, I doubt that I'm going to find one. So, here's how I made my own.
First, you find some great word art to use for the main words. I found some great words in the Zoomba Collection Biggie that I could use.
Then make sure that the ScrapSimple Tools – Actions: Label Maker 5001 is installed according to the directions. Once it's installed, it's as simple as pressing a button to fill in the missing words that you need.
Pick a font that you like, type the word, and play the action. It will ask you some simple questions as it runs through the options, and when it is done, you will have a custom word for your page. It works best to do just one word at a time. Then you can place the words along with the word art to create a title.
For fun, you can vary the fonts for each word, or even try some in all caps. Add your own spin to your word art. You can make each one a different color or make them all the same. Either way, by using a digital scrapbooking label maker, you will come up with a one-of-a-kind, totally-you, custom title for your digital scrapbook page.
The next time you end up with some missing words for your title, look to the Label Maker action to fill in the gaps and create the perfect title.
Commercial license versions of ScrapSimple Tools - Actions: Label Maker 5001, ScrapSimple Tools - Actions: Label Maker PSE 5001, Inspired Child Collection Biggie, ScrapSimple Tools - Actions: Photo Basics 5001 and Lettering Delights Chicken Scratch Font are also available.
