Fun things to do with Paper: Tin Can Centerpieces
When you're entertaining, it's so much fun to find little ways to add seasonal color and beauty to your home. With Scrap Girls digital scrapbooking papers, it's so easy to add a splash of color to anything!
Supplies used:
Select a paper from the Dazzle Collection Biggie to print out onto white cardstock. Cut the paper into strips a little bit narrower than the height of the can. For example, my cans were about four inches high, so I used strips of paper that were anywhere from two inches to three inches. (Shhh... I didn't measure!) This is one of those projects that looks good if they are not all exactly the same. I taped the paper around the tin can and cut off the excess.
The rest of the supplies I found at our local dollar store. They had a nice variety of silk flowers, some round pieces of dry flower foam, and a bag of fake moss to put in the top.
Once your papers are taped to your tin cans, you can assemble the vases. If you will be using them outside, I suggest putting some rocks in the bottom so they won't tip over. On top of the rocks, use about an inch of floral foam. Take one or two stems of your silk flowers and arrange them in the foam. Lastly, take a small handful of fake moss and stick it in the top of the can around your silk flower stems. The moss is a nice touch that hides the plastic stem of the flower and also hides the floral foam.
Now you can arrange them in groups on your tables or around your home. These are great to have around for any season, and with a quick change of the flowers or the papers, you have a whole new look in minutes!

Using Song Titles
Tutorial created using Photoshop CS5 with Windows 7
When you're creating your layouts, do you ever get stuck when it comes to the title? I do - all the time! If I look back at my layouts, I find one of two things happening. My titles are either the same, over and over (I've used "Little Helper" way too many times!), or they are just plain boring. Well, I've discovered that great titles are no further away than my own iPod or CD collection! A simple search in iTunes works wonders for my scrapbooking pages!
Literally, millions of songs are out there, and those song writers aren't making millions for being dull and boring. They are creative people, artists by trade. Why not ask them for a little help in creating your own art?
There are no hard and fast rules for choosing your song title, but you might want to think about how it will work on your page. First, most likely you'll want to pick a title that has a small number of words... maybe two or three. You aren't limited to that, but if you are going to be picking a longer song title, then you'll want to think of a creative way to make Word Art out of it. The other thing you'll want to think about is whether the title really fits the feeling you want to bring across to your viewers.
While I was researching song titles for this article, I found so many great song titles to choose from that it would take pages and pages to list them all. Titles are available for every kind of page imaginable! I'll list a few of my favorites for you, and then show you how I used a couple of titles in my own pages.
The options are endless! Now, go pull out your MP3 player and see what song titles strike your fancy!

Designer Do-Over by Sara Peterson
What's not to love about a precious child exploring his food – and making a delightful mess in the process?
I absolutely love this photo of my eldest with oatmeal in his ear. Yet, I never felt this layout conveyed that sense of messy to the viewer. It is also lacking in journaling. I want to completely recreate this layout with a childlike feel -with a touch of messy.
Original Layout by Sara Beth Peterson

I started this do-over the same way I start any new digital scrapbooking layout. I went to my pictures and pulled up the photo. I was so happy to discover a second photo showing off the messy high chair. I decided to use it to help tell the story of my messy eater. I opened the photos and removed the red eye with the Red Eye Tool.
I decided to change the title to Messy Time. To add to the messy feel, I applied the Layer Style from Design Pack: Inked Text to the title. To add some contrast, I put a clock face behind the photo. The big circle adds contrast to the squares and pulls from the title. I continued with the messy theme in the patterned paper. The pattern was too overwhelming, so I blended a solid paper on top to give the eyes some white space.
Finally, I used some strips with journal prompts to create some fun journaling. Since I made the original layout years ago, I have convinced myself that journaling is a valuable part of scrapbooking. Now my layout is updated and better tells the story of my messy son.
