I Have an Illness
I have an illness. It's not life-threatening. It doesn't negatively affect my day-to-day life. It doesn't cause me any pain or discomfort. In fact, it actually brings me a lot of peace and joy. I've had this illness almost all my life, and it is progressive in nature. It's getting more intense as the years go by. I didn't go to a doctor for the diagnosis. Let me tell you about the day I was diagnosed.
My parents were visiting from Utah. We had spent a beautiful day in Waimea Valley on the island of O'ahu hiking a gorgeous trail plentiful in lush island flora. We spent time swimming in the refreshingly cold water at the bottom of a breathtaking waterfall. We'd had a lovely day together in a really beautiful environment. I'd taken more pictures than I could count. The memories were captured. It was a perfect day.
As we were leaving, I saw the most beautifully rugged texture and pattern in the wooden boardwalk beams we were walking across. I stopped and bent over and snapped a few photos of the wood. When I stood back up, ready to move on, I noticed that my dad had a curious look on his face. He looked from me, to my camera, and back to my face before declaring, "You have an illness."
He's right, and I acknowledge it. Sometimes I'm a little sheepish about it when I get home from an outing and find that I've taken several hundred photos of an event while any uninfected person might have only taken a dozen. But the reality is that taking photos gives me a great sense of control and comfort. I don't have to rely solely on my brain to hold on to the memories we create because my camera has captured them, too. Right down to the minute details of the beautiful boardwalks upon which I place my feet.

Favorite Product I've designed:
Brush Set: Island Flora Biggie
Commercial license versions of Brush Set: Island Flora Biggie are also available.
One of my favorite products that I've designed is the Brush Set: Island Flora Biggie. The simple shapes of common tropical flowers, leaves, and trees make me smile. I enjoy using them not only on island layouts, but on any layouts that could use a bit of flora!

How Do Gift Certificates Work?
So, you just received a gift certificate for Scrap Girls, and you're ready to shop! What do you do next? Today I'm going to answer some of the most common questions I am asked regarding gift certificates.
Can I purchase a gift certificate for a friend or family member? Yes, we have gift certificates for sale in the Boutique. Once you're in the Boutique, go to the category drop-down list, and you'll find gift certificates at the bottom.
When will the gift certificate be mailed out? Immediately after you place your order! During checkout, you will be asked for the recipient's name, email address, and the message you would like to send them. As soon as you fill out that information and finalize your order, they will receive an email informing them of their gift certificate and giving them information on how to redeem it.
What if I do not want it to be sent directly to them? If you do not want the recipient to receive their gift certificate information after payment, then during checkout, either put in your email address in the recipient box or simply the letter x. By doing this, an email will not go out or will come to you. Your receipt will give you all the information needed to get the code to your recipient, and it will also include a link to a downloadable gift certificate you can print, fill out, and give to the recipient.
I just received a gift certificate, so how do I redeem it? During checkout, you will copy/paste the code number into the "Redeem a Coupon Code" box. This is right above where you enter your credit card information. Once you enter that code, click on "Submit Coupon Code," then verify that the amount has been taken off your total before checking out. Note: If the amount has not been taken off your total, then do not check out, because we cannot go back and adjust billing after it has taken place.
Can I redeem two gift certificates or a gift certificate and a coupon at the same time? Yes, simply enter both codes in the "Coupon Code" box at the same time with a comma between the codes.
Do I have to use the total amount of my gift certificate at once? No, you do not have to use it at once. You will receive a new code for the remainder of your gift certificate balance. You'll find this under your total on your receipt.
I didn't use all my gift certificate on my order, so why won't my code work now for the remaining balance? That's because the codes are only good for one use. The Boutique will issue you a new gift certificate code for the remaining amount. Look for it under the total on your receipt.
I hope this helps answer any questions you may have about gift certificates. If you have any further questions, email us at [email protected] and we'll be glad to help.

Color Theory - Tertiary Colors
Note: Tutorial created using Photoshop Elements 5.0 with Windows Vista
As a child, I enjoyed mixing colors and creating new ones. It was always exciting to see what new color I could create. And to tell you the truth, I still enjoy it. With just red, yellow, blue, and maybe some white and black, the possibilities are endless.
Today I am going to share with you some tips on how to use the tertiary colors on your digital scrapbooking pages. We have already discussed the primary and secondary colors in past newsletters. You learned that by mixing the three primary colors you can create the three secondary colors. Now let's take that knowledge one step further and create some tertiary colors. It's easy.
Tertiary colors are produced by mixing primary colors with secondary colors. And the names for each tertiary color are associated with the two colors they were mixed with, such as Red-Orange or Blue-Green. Pretty simple, huh?
Tertiary colors can be used to bring alive the colors in your photos. They can help your eyes focus on your photo without extra distracting colors. Take a look at this photo. The background is full of eye-popping green. I want a background that will help mimic the bright colors, but I don't want it to be overwhelming.
I decided to take the green grass and combine it with the blues of my son's clothes and use a Blue-Green as my background. This tertiary color will help accent the green of the grass and bring out the blue on my adorable subject. With blue-green as my background and its two neighboring tertiary colors (blue-purple and yellow-green) as accents, I was able to create a great background for my photo.
But something is still missing. Of course, I need more embellishments, and I really want to highlight the reds and oranges in the photo as well. Usually "less is more" when it comes to color, but with this particular layout, I think a little extra color will help it pop. I decided to finish this layout by adding just a little of the three remaining tertiary colors to help all the colors pop and flow together.
