Learning to Read
My youngest daughter just turned five and is preparing to go to kindergarten next year. Over the past couple years, we have worked on learning her letters and learning the sounds they make. She is progressing to the point of putting the letters and sounds together and starting to read some basic words. Using my digital scrapbooking software, I decided to make a special "learning to read" binder for her.
I made several pages of Word Families like this one. Then I put them in individual sheet protectors in a three-ring binder. My daughter has several dry erase markers that she uses to write the words and then read them to me. She loves her new binder and learning to read!

Favorite Product I've designed:
ScrapSimple Alpha Templates: Sewn
Commercial license versions of ScrapSimple Alpha Templates: Sewn are also available.
One of my favorite products that I have designed recently is the ScrapSimple Alpha Templates: Sewn. I like the fact that you can use the background letter separately, the stitches separately, or use them both together! They come nice and big, which is great for stand-out titles.

What's the Difference Between Scrap Girls Club and ScrapSimple Club?
Definitely, one of the best values for your money is our Scrap Girls Club and ScrapSimple Club. But just what are they and what is the difference between the two?
First let's look at the Scrap Girls Club:
This club is released on the 1st of the month, unless the 1st falls on a Sunday, then it's released on the 2nd. This club contains brand new, never-before-released, finished items for digital scrapbooking – digital papers, embellishments, word art, and predesigned elements. That means you simply download, unzip, and you're ready to start creating layouts with your new products.
Since this is club contains material that's ready to use from the moment you unzip your files, it's perfect for members that are just starting their digital scrapbooking journey.
This club contains the following pieces for one low monthly fee of $9.99 (or less for 6-month or 12-month subscribers):
All the above items are also sold separately each month in the Boutique. If you decide you don't want to join the club and be billed monthly, you can purchase any of these on their own. Individually, these items would cost $27.94.
But wait, there's more! The Scrap Girls Club gives you access to "members-only" items that are not available in the Boutique. These items will never be sold in the Boutique and can only be obtained through the Club membership:
These additional items raise the retail value of the monthly Scrap Girls Club to more than $40 – but you can get it all for $9.99! (Tip: If you sign up for a 6- or 12-month subscription, the price per month drops further!)
Now, here's the insider's scoop on our second club - the ScrapSimple Club:
This club is released on the 15th of the month, unless the 15th falls on a Sunday, then it's released on the 16th. This club contains brand new, never-before-released ScrapSimple items. If you are not familiar with our ScrapSimple items, then let me introduce you to the wonderful world of templates. A template is the base of the design, such as the pattern for a paper. It comes in shades of gray, then you transform each template with your own colors and textures to create a one-of-a-kind, designed-by-you element/paper.
Since this club contains template material and takes a little more work to create items that are ready to use, it is perfect for scrapbookers who have been scrapping a bit longer and are ready for the next challenge.
This club contains the following pieces for one low monthly fee of $6.99 (or less for 6-month and 12-month subscribers):
All the above items are also sold separately each month in the Boutique. If you decide you don't want to join this club and be billed monthly, you can purchase any of these individually, for about $19.15.
What you will not have access to, unless you're a club member, is the members-only material. These products will never be sold in the Boutique:
This raises the total retail value of the ScrapSimple Club to at least $29.15 each month – but it comes to you for just $6.99 (or less if you sign up for a 6- or 12-month subscription).
Both clubs have the option of paying monthly or signing up for an extended 6- or 12-month subscription. Do keep in mind, no matter which option you choose, you are agreeing to an automatic rebilling of the club until you contact us to cancel. Your cancellation must be received before the billing date of your club. If it's received after the billing period, the cancellation will take effect on the next cycle.
If you like a bargain, like to stretch your scrapbooking dollars as far as possible, then our Clubs are definitely worth checking out!
If you have any additional questions, please email us at [email protected] and we'll be happy to help.

Color Theory - Effective Use of Secondary Colors
Note: Tutorial created using Adobe Photoshop CS5 with Windows 7
What are Secondary Colors? They are green, orange and purple.
These colors are derived from mixing the primary colors - red, yellow, and blue. Basic color theory tells us that the best way to use a secondary color is to use it together with its complementary color. In the color wheel, complementary colors are those that are directly opposite each other. For example, green and red are complementary colors. (Think Christmas!)
Let's see this theory in action. My layout is about my boy and his favorite pool toy. To create this block-style layout, I spaced the photos by alternating photo and paper placements. My two dominant colors are orange, a secondary color, and its complementary color, blue. Notice how these two colors work together to make up an attractive color scheme. The blue echoes the water theme of my layout while the orange provides a punch of color that evokes energy and fun.
To anchor everything down, I used a brown background paper. I also introduced a bit of grey and white to tone down the high contrast that results from using complementary colors.
Using the color wheel and the principles of color theory will greatly help you in choosing a well-balanced color scheme that will make your layouts shine! Try it sometime!

May Message Board Game: Spotlight on the Boutique!
Each day during May (with the exceptions of Sundays), a member of the Welcoming Committee will post a layout in the official game thread. The layout will correspond with a product in the Scrap Girls Boutique and will be either the only layout or directly to the right of the product image on the product details page. A spotlight circle will show a portion of the layout you are to search for. If the layout is not identified by the following morning, a second spotlight circle will be added to the layout. This will be repeated until the product is identified.
To participate, search the Boutique for the layout and post a link to the product page in the official game thread. One guess per member per day. The winner will be drawn from all members who correctly identify a product throughout the month. The winner will receive a $10 Gift Certificate to the Scrap Girls Boutique!
For complete details, visit the Monthly Message Board Games folder on the Scrap Girls Message Board.
May Monthly Layout Contest: What's blooming in your yard, garden, or neighborhood right now? For those in the northern hemisphere, it would be spring flowers. Post your layouts in the May Monthly Layout Gallery before Midnight MT on May 31st. Be sure to list your credits in the description or under the EXIF Properties. If your layout is one of the two chosen, you will win a $10 gift certificate to the Scrap Girls Boutique!
Club Concepts Layout Contest: Post your new layout using the current club selection (either the Scrap Girls Club or the ScrapSimple Club) in our Scrap Girls Club Members Gallery or the ScrapSimple Club Members' Gallery. Be sure to list all of the Scrap Girls products you used.
