Candidates must have strong skills in Photoshop and/or Photoshop Elements and exhibit strong layout design skills. Knowledge of both programs is a plus. They must be warm and friendly, comfortably handle fast-paced chat room situations, and be able to easily answer questions that arise regarding their particular software area of expertise.
Candidates will be required to audition for this paid position. There will be a list of topics available from which classes can be developed; however, the teachers are encouraged to present their own ideas for approval as well.
Please contact Katherine Weaver at katherine@scrapgirls.com for more details. If you are interested in applying, please forward to Katherine an up-to-date resume as well as a sample tutorial you have written. Application deadline is Tuesday, May 31, 2011.

Rozanne Paxman
I wish I could pray so deep and so fine
that the prayer would hurl into space
through eternity and time.
All Heaven would hear it -
they would each turn and stare
towards the voice that it came from
as it burst out through the air.
And after God heard it
He would send it right back
with a hug and kiss and a kindly reminder,
taking form in a little light smack.
That He hears every prayer, both the plain and the fine,
And He answers each one in His own wisdom's time.
God loves every prayer and He welcomes each one
And He loves my prayers simply because they are mine
And I am
His.

What are Text Paths?
Note: Tutorial created using Photoshop CS3 with Mac OSX
Have you ever wanted your type to flow along a certain path, something other than a straight line? Using Text Paths is your answer!
Using products that have text paths or type shapes, you can have journaling and type that flows along a variety of paths and shapes - easily and professionally - with just a few clicks. These products are for Photoshop and Photoshop Elements.
There are several different products with type paths in the Scrap Girls Boutique. Some of the type paths are simple line paths like ScrapSimple Type Paths: Waves 3801. Some are type paths that are included within more complex products, like ScrapSimple Paper Templates: Editable Borders. Some digital templates also come with built-in type paths. And some are actually shapes that are filled with the type paths. I'm using one of these last varieties to demonstrate the tutorial today, ScrapSimple Type Shapes: Circles 8301 Biggie.

First, open your desired PSD file. Then, activate the text layer in the Layers Palette by clicking once on the layer. Select the Text Tool in your Tools Palette. With that layer active, triple-click on the placeholder text in the file itself. All the text will be highlighted. Next, type your own journaling text. If you highlight your text again, you can easily change the font and the size of the font, as well as the spacing.

After typing your new journaling, you may find that it looks better if you justify the type (justify means to make all the text lines even along one side or both sides). On the example at left above, you can see the text is ragged on the left side. I decided I liked the look of it better in the example at the right, with the text force-justified. You can do this in the Character and Paragraph Palette which can be toggled on at the top in your Text Toolbar. Justifying the text helped maintain that curve that I was going for. This is a personal choice - you can choose what you like best for each layout.

With this particular product, the type paths come with a background shape. You can either choose to leave this background shape (and clip some paper to it) or you can just select the type itself and not use the background shape. For my layout, I have chosen to delete the background semi-circle and just keep the type itself. Let me show you how:
First, open up your layout (the destination for your type path). With both the type path file and the destination layout open side-by-side and visible on your screen, click on the type path file. Then, with the mouse still depressed, drag the mouse over to the destination file and then release the mouse button (this is typically referred to as "click and drag").
Your type path or type shape portion of your layout is now complete! You can finish up your layout by adding embellishments and a title. Now you have a great layout with a unique type treatment to showcase your journaling!

Memorial Day – Documenting the Holiday
Note: Tutorial created using Photoshop CS5 with Windows 7
How do you celebrate Memorial Day? For some, it might mean going to a local veterans' cemetery or hospital and paying your respects. For others, maybe it's making sure you bring out those photos of soldiers in your family tree and retelling stories of them to your children. Or maybe you go camping or have a big barbeque (it is the beginning of summer, after all). Do you hang your American flag on your house to proudly display your patriotism?
However you celebrate, I strongly suggest you get out that camera, document the day, and create a layout, because the way you celebrate it today might not be the same way you celebrate it a few years down the road. It's always fun to look back on years past to see how your life has changed.
Do you need some help finding the right products to fit the way you celebrate? Here are some ideas for you!
For the patriotic feel, you might want to try:
How about the camping, cooking, or barbeque pages?
Or maybe this day gives you a good reason to remember and celebrate a lost loved one. That person might be a friend or a relative or a child.
No matter how your family celebrates this Memorial Day, I hope you'll create a layout and share it with us in our Scrap Girls Gallery! We'd love to see it!

May Message Board Game: Spotlight on the Boutique!
Each day during May (with the exceptions of Sundays), a member of the Welcoming Committee will post a layout in the official game thread. The layout will correspond with a product in the Scrap Girls Boutique and will be either the only layout or directly to the right of the product image on the product details page. A spotlight circle will show a portion of the layout you are to search for. If the layout is not identified by the following morning, a second spotlight circle will be added to the layout. This will be repeated until the product is identified.
To participate, search the Boutique for the layout and post a link to the product page in the official game thread. One guess per member per day. The winner will be drawn from all members who correctly identify a product throughout the month. The winner will receive a $10 Gift Certificate to the Scrap Girls Boutique!
For complete details, visit the Monthly Message Board Games folder on the Scrap Girls Message Board.

May Monthly Layout Contest: What's blooming in your yard, garden, or neighborhood right now? For those in the northern hemisphere, it would be spring flowers. Post your layouts in the May Monthly Layout Gallery before Midnight MT on May 31st. Be sure to list your credits in the description or under the EXIF Properties. If your layout is one of the two chosen, you will win a $10 gift certificate to the Scrap Girls Boutique!
Club Concepts Layout Contest: Post your new layout using the current club selection (either the Scrap Girls Club or the ScrapSimple Club) in our Scrap Girls Club Members Gallery or the ScrapSimple Club Members' Gallery. Be sure to list all of the Scrap Girls products you used.
