Nothing is Wasted
Over the past few years, my health has deteriorated so that I am mainly at home all the time. This change has left me with challenges on what I do with my limited energy and limitless time. One dismal day, I was looking at the magazines in the news agency, and I found one on digital scrapbooking.
I had tried paper scrapbooking, and I didn't have the money or skills necessary. Though I gagged at the hefty price of the imported magazine and debated on whether to buy it, I thought, why not? Maybe the computer version of scrapbooking would be better than battling paper crafting with my shaky hands. Regardless, reading the magazine would keep me occupied for an afternoon.
It not only kept me occupied for an afternoon, it has kept me productive ever since. Finally, something enjoyable to do! I could afford the digital embellishments and papers. I could adapt them to the colors I wanted. I could reuse them as many times as I needed. My computer skills blossomed, and I loved being able to do new things with my photos. My digital pages have become my screensaver, and I enjoy them every day. When I joined Scrap Girls, it gave me the opportunity to show my work in the Gallery and encourage others on the Message Board. It was the most loving Internet community I had ever come across. No one was critical, and no one spammed.
But being me, nothing is ever easy! I have a traumatic family background, and as much as I wanted to be able to scrapbook my earlier life, I was worried about the pain it would bring back. I looked at other people's layouts of laughing children and happy families, and I felt cheated that I wasn't doing those. I just don't have those kinds of photos.
Sometimes, forced bravery is the only option! I had to decide not to let my past continue to rob me. I scanned in my neglected family photos and did what I could to emphasize the positive memories I did have. I was amazed. It was not as hurtful as I had expected it to be. Admittedly, some photos do sting, but the ones that I find hard to look at are put away in another directory on my computer so I don't see them in my screensaver. The process has helped me regain a balance which I had lost, and many precious memories of friends and blessings have resurfaced.
The Holy Spirit really did lead me to that magazine. Thank you to everyone at Scrap Girls for their warmth and encouragement. Thank You, Lord. Time spent tired and sick can be useful and enjoyable. That's something I really love about God - nothing is ever wasted.
Muse: To be absorbed in one's thoughts; engage in meditation. Not intended to solve the world's problems, another person's problems, or to cover topics completely. One does not have to agree with musings to enjoy them, just as one does not have to be the same as someone else to appreciate who they are.
Would you like to earn a $20 Gift Certificate? Send your own muse to [email protected]. If it is selected for publication in the Scrap Girls newsletter, you'll get to have fun shopping!

Tagging in Windows Live
Last week, I talked about tagging your photos in Picasa, and this week, we're going to talk about tagging in Windows Live. Like Picasa, Windows Live is another free program which makes it a great option to use.
The first thing I did once I installed Windows Live was to bring in my scrapbooking supplies. In the upper left-hand corner, I chose the drop-down arrow and selected Include Folder.
Then, I chose Add, searched for my folder that was on my desktop, selected Include Folder, then OK.
As you see now, in my gallery I have a scrapbooking folder which includes my supplies. When selected, you'll see your supplies start to show up in the main window.
Once you have your items imported, the basic tagging is pretty simple. You can either click on an individual element/paper or select multiple items at a time by holding down the Ctrl key and clicking on the items. Once you have the items selected, you can choose Add descriptive tags on your right-hand side, then type in your tag description.
To search for your tagged items, simply choose the text search option at the top. A new box will open, then type in the term you'd like to search for, and Windows Live Photo will pull up those items.
To open in your Adobe program, simply right-click on the item and choose Open With> and then your program.
Now you know the basics of tagging in Windows Live Photo Gallery! I know I have so much more to learn about this program, but right now I'm having fun playing!

1. What program do you use to do your digital scrapbooking?
PSE7 and PSE9
2. Are you a Mac or a PC?
PC – I've never had any dealings with a MAC, though I think I would like to take a test run with MAC some day.
3. Tell us the make and model of digital camera that you use.
I have two that I use regularly – a Canon Rebel XSi and a Canon PowerShot SX100 IS, which is my "take-along" camera and I try to keep it with me at all times.
4. Name one thing that every beginning digital scrapbooker should know.
Take one step and a time, slowly, and NEVER give up.
5. If you could be transformed into a digital scrapbooking embellishment, what would you choose and why?
I think I would want to be some type of glitter. I love bling.
6. What time of day do you find that you do your best scrapbooking?
I usually do my best sometime between 10:00 pm and 2:00 am. I have no idea why – it just seems that's the best time for things to just fall into place for me.

I have two: M&Ms (plain) and Goldfish Crackers. Love them!
8. What is your least favorite household chore?
All of them. I don't like household chores of any kind.

The last couple of months, our forum and gallery experienced the effects of becoming very large, causing tables in the database to crash over and over. Because different tables were affected each day, it took quite a while to determine the cause of the issue. Finally - after a good deal of work - the super-sleuth geniuses on our support team determined that our server was underpowered and simply couldn't handle a daily process that ran each morning at 4 a.m. Naturally, the resolution of the issue required that we move the forum and gallery to a bigger, better server.
As you read this, the move is underway. Because our forum/gallery is so large, support had to take it off-line during the move. It will take a couple of days for the data to be moved. All scheduled crops and chats occurring during this time are cancelled.
We appreciate your patience during the move and hope you'll celebrate with us once we have the chance to enjoy the new, faster environment.
NOTE: Only our forum and galleries are being moved. The rest of the website - ScrapGirls.com and the Scrap Girls Boutique - are on different servers, hosted by different companies - are are operating as usual.
So while you wait, let the scrapping commence. Can't wait to see your layouts once the gallery is back up!

Join Pat (PBarnes) and Theresa (tiza126) for the New Member Chat at 7pm MT in the Live Chat room lobby. May Message Board Game: Spotlight on the Boutique!
Each day during May (with the exceptions of Sundays), a member of the Welcoming Committee will post a layout in the official game thread. The layout will correspond with a product in the Scrap Girls Boutique and will be either the only layout or directly to the right of the product image on the product details page. A spotlight circle will show a portion of the layout you are to search for. If the layout is not identified by the following morning, a second spotlight circle will be added to the layout. This will be repeated until the product is identified.
To participate, search the Boutique for the layout and post a link to the product page in the official game thread. One guess per member per day. The winner will be drawn from all members who correctly identify a product throughout the month. The winner will receive a $10 Gift Certificate to the Scrap Girls Boutique!
For complete details, visit the Monthly Message Board Games folder on the Scrap Girls Message Board.

Post your layouts in the May Monthly Layout Gallery before Midnight MT on May 31st. Be sure to list your credits in the description or under the EXIF Properties. If your layout is one of the two chosen, you will win a $10 gift certificate to the Scrap Girls Boutique!
