LIFE MUSES BY RO and OTHER WRITINGS
A Designer's Life: Syndee Nuckles

My husband, Bren, and I took our kids to Toy Story 3 last night, and it dawned on me that it has been 11 years since Toy Story 2 came out! During those years, I had my fourth child and watched three of my kids transform from toddlers to teens.

Life Muses by Ro: Contented

When you think of the word "contented," what image comes to mind? I imagine a grandpa and grandma sitting on their porch, their hands resting on their bellies, smiles on their faces as they gaze around their yard. They are relaxed because they own their home. They have flowers, a garden, and bottles of fruit in their basement. Their grandchildren come to visit on Sundays, and they drink limeade in clear glasses. They go on drives in their old car and stop at roadside diners and eat hot turkey sandwiches.

Life Muses by Ro: Take a Walk with a Turtle

Take a walk with a turtle...

Scrap Girls, Etc: Playing with Clay

Note from Heidi: I love this blog post from Theresa Kavouras. I was a lot like her girls when I was little. I loved just about anything to do with art - paints, colored pencils, crayons, paper, fabrics, sketch pads, glues... everything! One summer while I was in my early teens, I was really into painting ceramic figurines. Cross-stitch had its place, too, and I impressed my mom's stepbrothers with my "old-fashioned" stitching talents.

Life Muses by Ro: To Bee

Ro shares one of her doodles! Check it out!

Customer Muse by Marie Durrant

The Muse in your May 15, 2010, newsletter really struck home with me. It was about delaying a visit to a friend who had recently lost her husband because the visit might be awkward and difficult.

div

Muse: To be absorbed in one's thoughts; engage in meditation. Not intended to solve the world's problems, another person's problems, or to cover topics completely. One does not have to agree with musings to enjoy them, just as one does not have to be the same as someone else to appreciate who they are.

Would you like to earn a $20 Gift Certificate? Send your own muse to [email protected]. If it is selected for publication in the Scrap Girls newsletter, you'll get to have fun shopping!

Digital scrapbook layout by Julie Moberly

"Enjoy the Climb" by Julie Moberly
larger view

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:

I only had two photos to use for the small photo squares, but I wanted to have three squares for balance. First, I made a third square with my Shape Tool, colored it blue, and brushed clouds on it by using Brush Set: Time Traveler - Clouds Biggie. I resized the Family Tree paper template from ScrapSimple Paper Templates: Family Branch to fit in the square, then colored it green.

Software used: Adobe Photoshop Elements 8.0

Name of challenge: Create a non-holiday layout with a holiday collection.

Other Ingredients:

  • Font - Palatino

Digital Scrapbooking Tutorial: Creating a Two-Page Layout using a ScrapSimple Digital Layout Template

ScrapSimple Digital Layout Templates are much more versatile than just a tool for creating a one-page digital scrapbooking layout! One of my favorite things to do with ScrapSimple Digital Layout Templates is use them to create two-page layouts quickly and easily. I've chosen to use ScrapSimple Digital Layout Templates: Photos All Around to demonstrate how easy it is to turn a one-page template into a two-page layout.

Way Cool Stuff - Digital Scrapbooking Product Review: ScrapSimple Tools - Shapes

Custom Shapes are awesome! Have you ever had a digital scrapbooking element that you wanted to make much larger, but it lost detail as you enlarged it? This won't happen if you use custom shapes. They are vector images, so they are essentially redrawn by Photoshop or Photoshop Elements each time you move or change them. This means that your element will never be pixelated, no matter how large or small you make it. It will always have clean crisp edges.

Digital Scrapbooking Tutorial: Don't Be Square! - Part Two

Part One of this series taught you how to create a rectangle digital scrapbooking template from a square by simply resizing the square template and placing it on a rectangle canvas. I have a few more tricks up my sleeve for creating rectangles from squares, so on to Part Two!

It's that time again - Posting Contest time! This is where you are rewarded for your flying fingers and chattiness. The contest will run from August 1 when we post the thread to August 31 at 12:00 Midnight (MST). We are doing things a little differently this time, so here are the rules:

2) During the month, chat your fingers off!

3) On August 31, BEFORE Midnight (MST), go back to your original post in the game thread (the one with your starting post count) and take a screenshot of it. Send the screenshot to [email protected]. The screenshot is your contest entry! We will calculate your post count based on the numbers on the screenshot. (Directions for taking screenshots will be posted in the game thread.)

Prizes: The top poster gets a $20 Scrap Girls gift certificate. Everyone over 250 new posts will be entered in a random drawing for a $10 Scrap Girls gift certificate. Everyone over 100 new posts will be entered into a random drawing for a $5 Scrap Girls gift certificate.
