Mischief Week Sale! 21.9% off almost everything in the Boutique until Midnight, April 30th (MDT).

It's finally here... MISCHIEF WEEK!!!

For the uninitiated, Mischief Week is a week-long event of mayhem and madness, located in our newsletter, message board, and chat room. We have lots of games, contests, crops, and free classes for you. We give away prizes like we are losing our minds. Make sure you read the details about Mischief Week below today's freebie, and keep an eye on the newsletter because new silliness is announced in almost every issue!

We want to spoil you a little bit during Mischief Week. And so - even though we just barely had a sale and Angie says "off with our heads!" if we run another one right now, we're going to live dangerously and do it.

So hop right on it, jump down the rabbit hole, and save money. Almost everything in the Scrap Girls Boutique is 21.9% off! But you know how it goes - the adventure will be over at Midnight (MT) on Friday, April 30th.

Protect your files with Carbonite Online Backup.

Ro personally uses Carbonite to back up her computer. While it won't backup external hard drives, it is a fabulous solution for keeping all of your important documents on your C:/ drive safe and your backups completely up-to-date at all times. Using it has made her stop worrying about losing important business and financial files, because the backup happens without Ro having to do a single thing.

LIFE MUSES BY RO and OTHER WRITINGS
A Designer's Life: Katherine Weaver

For the most part you'd be hard pressed to try and pry me away from my home office or the kitchen. When I'm home, these rooms are my absolute favorite places to spend time. However when I'm not clicking away at the computer keyboard or whipping up a new recipe at the kitchen counter, you'll most likely find me at the race track supporting our family's race team.

Life Muses by Ro: You Have to Fall Down

Life Muses by Ro: A Firm Foundation

It's easy to feel firm when the ocean of life gently flows in against our shore. Days float in and out. Sunshine smiles on our faces. Birds fly overhead and sing songs of contentment.

Scrap Girls, Etc.: Creating the Illusion of Paper Tears in Digital Scrapbooking

Note from Heidi: Paper tearing is one of those paper-crafting techniques that can give some extra texture and interest to a layout or project without overwhelming your photos. However, the look can be difficult to replicate in digital scrapbooking. Fortunately, we have some awesome product designers here at Scrap Girls who have made it so easy to achieve a realistic torn-paper look, so there's no excuse not to try it! Here's Angie Briggs with a great tutorial on how to use digital templates to get started...

Life Muses by Ro: Book Story

It occurs to me that the titles of books I have in my library are telling me something...

Customer Muse by Jennifer Hamilton

I am in danger... I have been outed! Back in high school I was naive. I was in good shape, but thought I was fat. I didn't know they were watching me, waiting. They were biding their time. I had to work to stay in shape, but I didn't mind because I enjoyed working out. Time passed, I got married... and something happened. It didn't happen all at once, but I started to notice little things. Strange things. Things that scared me.

Muse: To be absorbed in one's thoughts; engage in meditation. Not intended to solve the world's problems, another person's problems, or to cover topics completely. One does not have to agree with musings to enjoy them, just as one does not have to be the same as someone else to appreciate who they are.

Would you like to earn a $20 Gift Certificate? Send your own muse to [email protected]. If it is selected for publication in the Scrap Girls newsletter, you'll get to have fun shopping!

Digital scrapbook layout by Elisha Barnett

"HERfect Moments" by Elisha Barnett

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:

One of the easiest, most fun ways to get a layout done quickly is to combine a layout template with styles. I chose styles that were complimentary to the elements in the kit I was using, and with a click of my mouse I applied the styles to the element layers in the template. For example, I saw that ScrapSimple Tools - Styles: Aged Metals Biggie was a perfect compliment to the heart in Kim Meeder's Fab 5, so I applied that style to a few hearts already in the template. Don't you just love styles? I do!

Kim Meeder's Fab 5 ScrapSimple Digital Layout Templates: Bursting ScrapSimple Embellishment Templates: Postage Due Cluster Frames
ScrapSimple Embellishment Templates: Crocheted Frames ScrapSimple Tools - Styles: Aged Metals Biggie ScrapSimple Tools - Styles: Fleur 6301
ScrapSimple Tools - Styles: Organica 5201 ScrapSimple Tools - Actions: Photos That Pop PSE 1801 ScrapSimple Tools - Actions: Deep Shadows 6501 PSE and PS Biggie
ScrapSimple Tools - Styles: Basic Shadows 6501

Commercial license versions of ScrapSimple Digital Layout Templates: Bursting, ScrapSimple Embellishment Templates: Postage Due Cluster Frames, ScrapSimple Embellishment Templates: Crocheted Frames, ScrapSimple Tools - Styles: Aged Metals Biggie, ScrapSimple Tools - Styles: Fleur 6301, ScrapSimple Tools - Styles: Organica 5201, ScrapSimple Tools - Actions: Photos That Pop PSE 1801, ScrapSimple Tools - Actions: Deep Shadows 6501 PSE and PS Biggie and ScrapSimple Tools - Styles: Basic Shadows 6501 are also available.

Software used: Adobe Photoshop Elements 6

Name of challenge: Create a layout using five photos.

Theme parks are truly magical, and it's so fun to see the magic unfold as a child discovers the excitement of a theme park's rides. Personally, one of my favorite things about visiting a theme park is seeing my kids' reactions to the rides. Without a doubt, a camera-in-hand is a must-have piece of equipment for any true scrapbooker, as our goal always is to capture our children in new, exciting, difficult, thrilling, and important moments.

APRIL EVENTS

April Message Board Game: Progressive Word Scramble!

The object of the game is to correctly guess the name of a product in the Scrap Girls Boutique by solving clues and unscrambling letters we give you. Each day, you will be given a letter found in the product name as well as a clue. You won't know how many letters are in the product name until it is complete. We will keep giving clues until a correct guess is made.

The designer's name or the word "Collection" are not included as part of the puzzle. Letters from any other words in product names (such as "Biggie," "Brush" or "Transparency") may be given as part of the puzzle.

Be the first to answer it correctly and win a $5.00 Gift Certificate to the Boutique! You are only allowed ONE guess per daily clue, and you are only allowed ONE win per month. When you make your guess, you MUST provide a link to the boutique item you are referencing. We will play the game daily during the entire month of April. When a correct answer is given, the new puzzle will start the following day.

For complete details and examples of game play, visit the "Games" folder on the Scrap Girls message board.
