Life Muses by Ro and Other Writings
A Designer's Life: Trish Yochum

Ever since I can remember, come the end of February I get an itch to play softball. At times, it would barely be January and I would start getting people together to go throw the ball around or have batting practice. Although I grew up playing lots of sports including soccer, swimming and volleyball, softball has always been my favorite. By the time I was in high school, I played on three teams at a time. Softball was the one sport that I was never sick of by the end of the season.

Life Muses by Ro: Contents of a Purse

Photos of purses are like time capsules of your life. I challenge you to take a photo of your own purse (or wallet) today. And then, of course, you need to make a layout that tells all about it...

Life Muses by Ro: Digital Scrapbooking Haiku

Haiku: Three lines. Line one five syllables. Line two seven syllables. Line three five syllables.

Best of the Scrap Girls Blog: Hold That Page

Note from Ro: Definition of creative individual Erica Hite. Look what she posted on the Scrap Girls Digital Adventures Blog. Fun stuff, Erica!

Life Muses by Ro: Examples from the Past

My grandmothers didn't worry if their lives were fulfilling their deepest hopes and desires. They simply got up, worked hard, loved deeply and shared what they had with the people around them.

They were creative women who found joy in using everything to its fullest potential. A Christmas card became a gift tag. Old blue jeans became a camping quilt. Bacon drippings became white gravy on toast.

Customer Muse: Lisa Ballard

I became a piano expert. This wasn't by choice, but rather out of necessity. I didn't plan on spending my day becoming familiar with the piano and I never dreamed of taking on such a task.

Muse: To be absorbed in one's thoughts; engage in meditation. Not intended to solve the world's problems, another person's problems, or to cover topics completely. One does not have to agree with musings to enjoy them, just as one does not have to be the same as someone else to appreciate who they are.

Note from Ro: Would you like to earn a $20 Gift Certificate? Send your own muse to [email protected]. If it is selected for publication in the Scrap Girls newsletter, you'll get to have fun shopping!

Ro is now spotlighting various Scrap Girls members, showing layouts, and running contests in her blog. If you end up being spotlighted in it, you'll get a little gift from her. Subscribe to her blog so you don't miss what is going on!

Ro has recently spotlighted Soozlou, mtorres_usa, and teabaglady!

Tutorials and Articles
ScrapSimple Club Concepts

April's Scrap Girls ScrapSimple Club's featured designers are Erica Hite and Valerie Randall. Their club is full of beautiful products that can help you document your photos and get creative in amazing ways. Our entire Scrap Girls staff has put their heads together and come up with some ideas to help you get the most out of your fun, new digital scrapbooking toys!

Designer Do-Over: Cherise Oleson

Prior to starting digital scrapbooking, I was an avid paper scrapper and I scrapped exclusively in the 8.5x11 size. When I discovered digital scrapbooking a couple of years ago, I wanted to still create layouts that could be used in the same top-loading sheet protector albums that I had been using for my paper scrapbooking albums. I discovered that I could design my layouts at 8x10 size and get them printed as regular photos at the developer easily. So... that's what I did for my first several layouts. After about 2 months of that, I realized that I really wanted to switch over to the square format, because everything was designed for that size (12x12, which can be resized to 8x8, if needed.) Now I have this handful of layouts done in the "off" size of 8x10. So I'm trying to re-do some of them, so that they can fit into albums with all of my other digital layouts that I have done since then.

Digital Scrapbooking Tutorial: Altering Paper

Have you ever come across a designer paper that you absolutely love, only to realize it isn't quite right for the photo or layout you want to use it for? How about altering it to fit your needs? I am going to alter a paper from the Mod Bungalow Collection Biggie to create a more compatible background for my photo. The playful look of the BHA_ModBungalow_12x12_Stripes paper is great, but the red and orange hues overwhelm my photo since there is no red in the photo to help it pop out.

Way Cool Stuff Digital Scrapbooking Product Review: Assemble Your Own Zoom Pages

Zoom, zoom, zoom... No, I am not talking about fast cars. I am talking about fast scrapping with Assemble Your Own Zoom Pages! Are you in a rut? Have scrapper's block? Overwhelmed with your growing stash of supplies? Need to pull a layout together quickly? Get out those Zoom Pages! They are a great solution for all of these problems!

Digital Scrapbooking Tutorial: More Creative Stitching

Several months ago, I wrote a tutorial for the newsletter on using creative stitching on your layouts. Since that time, I have made an exciting discovery to add to my already growing passion for stitching on my digital scrapbooking layouts... using type paths! You might ask yourself, "Why would I want to use type paths for my stitching?" But, after you see how easy it is to create all sorts of creative stitching using the type paths as a tool, you will be asking yourself, "Why haven't I been using type paths?"

Layout and Contest Winners

Way Cool Scrap Girl: We are so excited to have all of you meet some of the amazing people that have become Scrap Girls! If you would like to be spotlighted and win a $25 Gift Certificate to the Scrap Girls Boutique, send the following items to [email protected]:

- 500-900 word essay about your experience with digital scrapbooking, Scrap Girls, and specific examples of how we have helped you.
- A 600-pixel wide, 72 dpi copy of a layout you've created that uses Scrap Girls products, plus a complete list of those products.
- A 100-pixels wide, 72 dpi picture of yourself.
- Permission to use your statement.

Club Concepts: We would like to announce that we will be looking for your help in creating these Club Concepts articles. Simply post your new layout using the current club selection (either the Scrap Girls club or the ScrapSimple club) in our Scrap Girls Club Members Gallery. Be sure to list all of the Scrap Girls products you used, as well as a short (1-2 sentence) description of the unique idea or theme your layout shows off. If your layout and its corresponding tip is chosen, they will be showcased in our Club Concepts article, and you will win a $5 Gift Certificate to the Scrap Girls Boutique!

Suggest a Challenge, Win a Prize! Have a great idea for a gallery layout challenge? Submit it to [email protected]. If your challenge idea is chosen, you will win a prize! Friday will be Customer Challenge Day, so keep an eye out on the message board calendar. It will be fun to see what YOU come up with for us to do!

divScrap Girls is giving away birthday gifts to our message board members! Of course, it is a surprise what you will get because birthday presents are always surprises! But you will like it for sure because most people like money... Anyway, make sure your message board email address is current and that you have the correct date entered into your profile to participate.
