Life Muses by Ro and Other Writings
A Designer’s Life: Amanda Sok

I don't find myself very interesting at all. I can tell you that I find these articles a little hard sometimes. They would be much easier of I were writing them about someone else. That being said, I employed help from my fellow Scrap Girls to throw out any questions they may have wanted to ask me.

Life Muses by Ro: Conversation with Wisdom

“What did I do today?” I ask myself, filled with guilt. “I’m such a slacker. I didn’t work on my big project at all. And I didn’t exercise, or clean the microwave, or wipe down the monitor, or....”

Life Muses by Ro: Sleep is a Pilot

Sleep is a pilot whose passengers arrive at his doorway burdened, tired, and emotionally charged. Sleep takes the cares of his charges and uses them as background material for the in–flight movies he so lovingly provides. Sleep relaxes muscles, soothes brows, and wipes down the trouble-counter until it glistens with solutions. When Sleep delivers his children to Morning, he quietly slips into the light and waits until it is his turn once more.

Best of the Scrap Girls Blog: It's the Little Things

Note from Ro: I found this post in the Scrap Girls Blog, Digital Scrapbooking Adventures, and I realized that Melissa is a girl after my own heart. I love taking photos of the small details of life. It is those details that assure me that I am alive. So here’s your assignment: Take some photos of the details of your life today. And once you have them, create some digital scrapbooking layouts so that those who come behind you will know that you were alive....

Life Muses by Ro: ScrapSimple Paper Templates as Wallpaper?

Do you think we used ScrapSimple Paper Templates as wallpaper?

Of course, we didn’t, but when it came time to fix up Julianne’s room, I allowed her to pick out what she wanted. Imagine my surprise when she cruised around the Internet and picked out some wallpaper that looks just like a ScrapSimple Paper Template!

Customer Muse: Don’t Leave the Camera Behind

I intentionally left my camera behind on our trip to the mountains this weekend. I figured the snow would still be melting and it would be colorless, cold and wet. We had a lot of things to take with us already. We weren’t going to do much. What would there be to take pictures of? I glanced at it as we were walking out the door and made a conscious decision to leave it on the counter.

Muse: To be absorbed in one's thoughts; engage in meditation. Not intended to solve the world's problems, another person's problems, or to cover topics completely. One does not have to agree with musings to enjoy them, just as one does not have to be the same as someone else to appreciate who they are.

Note from Ro: Would you like to earn a $20 Gift Certificate? Send your own muse to [email protected]. If it is selected for publication in the Scrap Girls newsletter, you'll get to have fun shopping!

Ro is now spotlighting various Scrap Girls members, showing layouts, and running contests in her blog. If you end up being spotlighted in it, you'll get a little gift from her. Subscribe to her blog so you don't miss what is going on!

Ro has recently spotlighted Soozlou, mtorres_usa, and teabaglady!

Computer scrapbook layout by Jo Corne

“Cowabunga Dude” by Jo Corne
larger view

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:

To create my page with my son jumping out of the frame, I first placed my background paper and then on the next layer, I enlarged my photo to fit the whole page size and reduced its Opacity to 45%. I duplicated my photo twice onto another two layers and brought their Opacity back up to 100%. Then I placed the frame behind my son and played with it until I was happy with its position.

On the second photo layer, I used a clipping path to clip the part of the photo that would be in the frame. On the third photo layer, I removed the background of the photo, leaving only my son who now appears to be jumping out of the photo and out of the frame.

Tutorials and Articles
ScrapSimple Club Concepts Tutorial: Frugal and Beautiful Wall Art

Wouldn't you love to give a really special, meaningful gift this year without spending a lot of money? Our Frugal Wall Art gives the look of a more expensive “altered canvas,” which generally uses an artist canvas as its base. However, we will use styrofoam as a base for the art, instead of the artist canvas, which costs more money. You could also use a piece of wood or even a gift box; be creative and see what you can use that you already own. And of course, use your Scrap Girls digital scrapbooking products to make your layout.

Best of the Message Board

See how our message board members are helping each other with questions about need-to-know tips for PSCS3 and more!

Digital Scrapbooking Tutorial: Hand Cut Paper

The one thing I love about digital scrapbooking layouts and creating them is how perfect everything is. There’s no re–cutting paper because you didn’t cut straight on the line or because your circle is lop–sided. But, then again, that’s something I miss about my old paper layouts – the touches of imperfection.

Way Cool Stuff Digital Scrapbooking Product Review: Alphas

If you’re anything like me, you’ve amassed an impressive number of the beautiful collections that the Scrap Girls designers have cranked out over the years. Of course, the fact that they are coordinated makes it easy to put together unified designs. What happens, though, when you’ve already used the collection for its intended purpose? (Because we all plan these things before we buy, right?) Does it sit in a file on your hard drive? If it’s a favorite, you might go back to it several times to use those go–to elements. But, the true potential is not being met if you don’t use all of the elements over and over again. That’s what makes digital scrapbooking so economical and rewarding, after all.

Digital Scrapbook Tutorial: Creating Realistic Distortions

The ScrapSimple Tools - Actions: Warped 8201 Mini was designed to help you create realistic looking distortions for your digital scrapbooking papers as well as titles, journaling and drop shadows, to mimic the natural texture and depth of the background.

What Customers Are Saying...

So Thursdays are always an exciting day on our message board. This is the day that our designers start releasing their new product into the store and has become a weekly event in the forums.

The weekly thread will start early on Thursday morning, with a general wake up call... and it’s always fun to see who the first to post will be. This will get the Boutique Babes (as they have started calling themselves) excited for the new product.

Layout and Contest Winners

Congratulations to our Weekly Layout Winners, mtorres_usa and JenniferZ. Check them out! Congratulations!
