Life Muses by Ro and Other Writings |
- A Designer’s Life: Mandy Steward
-
I touched my two-month-old baby’s skin yesterday. I don’t mean that I brushed against it while changing his diaper. I don’t mean that natural skin touching that occurs while I am nursing him, burping him, rocking him, or picking him up to put him in his car seat as I’m rushing out the door to run errands....
- Life Muses by Ro: Be Brave and Tug!
-
It was always there - itching and burning and bothering me. I didn't know why this particular incision was taking so much longer to heal than I expected it to. I also didn't know why I couldn't stop catching every virus that came into the vicinity. Maybe I was just being impatient, but after two months of feeling lousy, I wanted to feel better so I could move on. I finally decided to go to an acupuncturist to see if she could help.
- Life Muses by Ro: It’s Not Over Until It’s Over
-
I heard her voice coming from the labor room next to me. In the last stages of labor, she panicked and began to scream, “Let me out of here! Give me my clothes. I can't do this. I'm going home....”
- Best of the Scrap Girls Blog: A Month in Review
-
Note from Ro: Ever see something that makes you go, “Duh!” Well, this post I found on the Scrap Girls Digital Scrapbooking Adventures Blog made me do just that. Actually, it makes me more interested in taking photos than ever because this is do-able!
- Life Muses by Ro: Strange and Unusual
-
I was in the mood to do something strange and unusual. After thinking about it for a while, I decided to take the plunge. Literally. I bought myself a swimming suit in the hotel's gift shop and made an appointment for a water-soaked massage called Watsu....
- Customer Muse: The Night Before
-
It all starts the night before.
I set my alarm, with all intentions to get up and run three miles in the morning. But, in the middle of the night, I am awoken several times with jolts of, “Mom, I have to go to the bathroom. Mom, I'm scared. I had a bad dream. Can you sleep with me? I'm thirsty. I don't want to go to school tomorrow....”
Muse: To be absorbed in one's thoughts; engage in meditation. Not intended to solve the world's problems, another person's problems, or to cover topics completely. One does not have to agree with musings to enjoy them, just as one does not have to be the same as someone else to appreciate who they are.
Note from Ro: Would you like to earn a $20 Gift Certificate? Send your own muse to [email protected]. If it is selected for publication in the Scrap Girls newsletter, you'll get to have fun shopping!
Ro is now spotlighting various Scrap Girls members, showing layouts, and running contests in her blog. If you end up being spotlighted in it, you'll get a little gift from her. Subscribe to her blog so you don't miss what is going on!
Ro has recently spotlighted Soozlou, mtorres_usa, and teabaglady! |

“Never Having to Apologize” by Stefanie Harris
larger view
Directions for one technique I did on this layout:
Since Lori’s products are so unique, I wanted to create a fun photo treatment that would really showcase how versatile and artsy digital scrapbooking can be. By using her ScrapSimple Paper Templates: Weaved and Woven over a base of the photo that I had blended into my background paper (I used a layer mask with her Grunge brushes to clear away any distracting areas), I really achieved a fun look with very feminine papers. I purposely left a large area of white (from a window) in my photograph so that the template (which I flipped and rotated) would have a blank area where I could do my journaling. I can see myself incorporating these templates into a LOT of fun projects in the future!
Software used: Adobe Photoshop CS2
Name of challenge: Young At Any Age
Other Ingredients:
- Font - Nimbus SansT Condensed

- Digital Scrapbooking Tutorial: Kerning in Photoshop Elements
-
The use of words is a topic that is close to my heart. It was only natural for me to extend that passion into a project on typography and fun ways to include words in digital scrapbooking layouts. That venture became the Word Play eBook and I’d like to share with you one of my favorite text techniques from that collection of tutorials. (Most of the tutorials work amazingly well in Photoshop as well as Photoshop Elements.)
- Way Cool Stuff Digital Scrapbooking Product Review: Alphas
-
A, B, C, D, E, F, G... you get the idea. Alphas here, alphas there, alphas everywhere! Have you ever done an actual count of how many alpha collections you have tucked away in your stash? If you do, I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised that you have more than you think.
- Digital Scrapbook Tutorial: Using the Ruler Tool to Straighten a Photo
-
If you, like me, are a self-taught Photoshop user, there may be lots of digital scrapbooking shortcuts that you don’t know about which could save you valuable time. Today, I’m going to show you one of my favorites: using the Ruler Tool to straighten a photograph.

It's that time again! Join us for an exciting game of BINGO on the Message Board Forum in February! Pick 25 words from the list provided in the forum and send them in an e-mail to [email protected] with a subject line that says “BINGO CARD - your SG message board username” by Monday, February 2nd (midnight MST) in order to play in the first round, which will begin Tuesday February 3rd.
Each day, members of the Welcoming Committee will call five random words from the Bingo list. Match just 15 of those words to win a BINGO.
