Directions for one technique I did on this layout:
I wanted to use the Family word art from the You Are Collection Biggie, but I wanted to colors to fit with my layout design. To change the colors of the word art, I used the Magic Wand Tool (W), to select each letter and bracket. I was then able to use my color selector to pick a new color and paint it onto each letter and bracket. I also decided to replace the heart embellishment in the word art with a heart embellishment from Document It Collection Biggie. To do that, I used the Magic Wand Tool to select the heart from the You Are embellishment and then clicked on the eraser. Next I moved the heart from the Document It Collection Biggie into its place and resized it to fit.

Journaling: January in Ohio means we've spent a lot of time inside; the snow just kept falling! Hunter is getting really good at putting together puzzles all by herself. At 5 months old, Tucker is all play. He has finally figured out how to climb up and down the stairs and how to jump up on furniture. The girls had fun playing with daddy and even managed to get a ride on his shoulders. We were all laughing so hard as they ran around and played, but I managed to snap a few photos to remember all the fun! And although it is COLD outside, Hunter still loves to wear her dresses (inside) - that silly girl! And Aubrey spends some time playing on her Mobigo game... both girls really enjoy playing Dora on the Mobigo (especially on the drive to/from Kim's) & I love that they are spending time with a fun learning game.

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:
For this layout, I wanted to use the very darling Brush Set: Vintage Vol.7 - Girls With Hats to make button embellishments for my layout. On a separate document, I assembled the buttons, using ScrapSimple Embellishment Templates: Acrylic Bubble Buttons. First I layered a paper over the round mask and clipped them together. Then I stamped the brush on top of that, and then added the acrylic top and ring onto each button. Next I locked each group of layers together for each button and duplicated them onto my layout. I was careful to lock the layers together so that I could move each button group together as a single unit.

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:
I love using layout templates for birthday or other holiday layouts. They really take the guess work out of composition when you want to include a lot of photos on your layout, which always seems to be the case for me when I'm doing pages about birthdays, Christmas, Easter, and so on. Pebbles' ScrapSimple Digital Layout Album Templates: 12x12 Life in Action Vol.1 were perfect for this page about my daughter's 6th birthday. I had no problem placing and fitting all the pictures I wanted to include and could then move on to the fun stuff! Let our super designers do some of the work for you and give some layout templates a try!

Journaling: Betsy Grace talked for months about having an Ariel birthday before the day actually came. We had lots of fun planning the cake we would make, looking for inspiration at craft stores and in the candy aisle. We had Molly over for the afternoon and to stay for Betsy's birthday supper. Betsy Grace and Scarlett helped make and decorate the cake. When Molly came over, the girls played dress-ups, made sand art in honor of the mermaid theme and Betsy opened presents. Molly gave her a FurReal Pet Panda and Mommy and Daddy gave her her very own digital camera. Betsy's request for dinner was pancakes, so we had pink pancakes and bacon and of course, cake and ice cream. My favorite memory is the look on Betsy Grace's face when we sang "Happy Birthday" to her. She was beaming and I can't believe our girl is six years old! She said she'd stay five forever!

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:
I decided to use a template from ScrapSimple Digital Layout Album Templates: 12x12 Life in Action Vol.1 but wanted to make use of "white space" and add a few embellishments that would not fit on the full size template. To do this, I placed all of the pieces of the template on my layout's background paper and linked them together. I did this by holding down the Ctrl key while clicking on each layer in the Layers Palette and then clicking on the little "Link" icon (looks like a chain) at the bottom of the palette. Next I clicked on one of the layers on my workspace, pressed Ctrl+T and dragged one of the corners, resizing all of the layers of the template at one time.

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:
To desaturate my photos to match the color palette of Pebbles' Natural Affection Collection, I duplicated my photo layers. On the duplicated layer, I ran Erica Hite's ScrapSimple Tools - Actions: Photos That Pop BandW 1801 Mini and changed the Blending Mode of that layer to "Hard Light" then lowered the Opacity until it gave me the desaturated look I wanted. There are easier ways to desaturate your photos, but I liked the extra control over color and saturation that this method gave me.

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:
I wanted to highlight the week I was scrapping about on Pebbles Jones' Brush Set: Life in Action - Calendars 2011 Biggie. I added a new layer under the brush layer. Then I loaded Erica Hite's Dynamic Brush Set: Frayed 5401 and brushed it in green across the dates. Finally, I applied Shalae Tippets' ScrapSimple Tools-Styles: Fibers 4901 to add texture.

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:
Here are the steps I took to create the "Poof" in my word art. First I typed the word and formatted the font, size and color. Then I created a new layer above the type, held down Ctrl and clicked on the type thumbnail to create a selection of my type. I inverted the selection using shortcut Ctrl+Shift+I and then used Dynamic Brush Set: Spray Paint 5401 with white to spray paint on the new layer until I achieved a look I was happy with. I still wanted the type layer to show through since the paper beneath isn't very dark but it was pretty harsh. To fix this, I applied a Gaussian Blur filter to my text layer (after rasterizing/simplifying it) and reduced the Opacity to 15%. It was still just a little harsh so I created a layer mask on the paint layer and using a brush from Brush Set: Grungelle set at a 30% Opacity, I lightly faded the sharp edges.

Journaling: Last winter we made a "snowman" Kalyssa named "Princess Sparkle Poof." This year she had to have a Queen that wears glasses just like her. So we dug out Mama's tiara and an old pair of Kalyssa's glasses and we had our Queen!

I adore all the beautiful brushes in the boutique, but sometimes they look a little flat just stamped in color on a layout. So marry them up with a style or use them as a clipping mask for a paper! On this page I clipped the brown paper from Natural Affection Paper Mini – Solid to the main title brushwork. Behind the photo, I used ScrapSimple Tools - Styles: Painting Textures on a mask from Brush Set: Urban Grunge Photo Masks.
