The snowmen in Robert Schneider's Digital Stickers: Snowmen 2 are just so adorable, and I knew the specific one I used would work perfectly with this photo. However, with the way my subjects were moving in the photo, I wanted to snowman to face the other way so my layout would have better flow. To turn the snowman around, I used Edit> Transform> Flip Horizontal.

Journaling: The snow just kept falling and falling! We saw 25 inches of snowfall in 17 days. Uncle Paul invited us over for some sledding fun! He pulled the sleds behind the
four-wheelers - I think the big kids had just as much fun as the little ones!

It's so easy to make a great title by adding a stroke to a font. Here, I started with a relatively "fat" font, Lettering Delights Sun Daze Font. I typed the word "basking" in a big font size. Then I simplified the layer by right-clicking on the text layer in my Layers Palette and choosing "Simplify Layer" from the pop-up menu. Make sure your spelling is correct, because the text becomes un-editable after this step! To make the stroke, I clicked Edit> Stroke (Outline) Selection from the top menu. A dialog box will pop up allowing you to choose the stroke settings. I chose a Stroke width of 20 pixels for this title, but you can go bigger or smaller (if you don't like the result, remember you have an Undo button!). The color of your stroke will default to your foreground color, but you can change it by clicking the Color Box. Choose a color using the sliders in the next dialog box or pick a color from your layout with the Eyedropper Tool that also appears. Choose "Outside" for your stroke location. Click "OK," and you've got your title! I added a drop shadow to mine to finish it off.

The four original photos clashed in terms of colors and tones. I decided to unify them by turning them all black and white. I applied the black-and-white action from Melissa Renfro's ScrapSimple Tools - Actions: Photo Basics PSE 5001 to each photo. Then I placed each edited photo onto my layout. Finally, I played a little with the brightness and contrast to reduce the subtle differences between the photos.

Journaling: The kids started Taekwondo at young ages. In addition to training in class, they liked to compete in the Tiny Tigers division at tournaments - just for kids under six years old. These photos capture the pride and joy of their victories. Brian, Dylan, Derek, and Marissa may appear little and harmless, but in the ring they were ferocious tiny tigers!

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:
I made this layout for my cousin. She has twin daughters who are two weeks older than my oldest son. I feel so blessed that our kids have the same kind of relationship as we did as kids. My cousin willingly supplied photos of her girls, but I forgot to ask her for some journaling for the layout. I decided to add some lines to my page so that she could write in her own thoughts and facts by hand. This way, my page will be coherent with the rest of her scrapbooks.

I wanted to do a tablescape for this layout. In order to create the look of a tabletop, I used the wooden paper from the Rough Hewn Collection Biggie, resized it to about one-third of the layout, and then added a deep shadow from ScrapSimple Tools - Actions: Deep Shadows 6501 PSE and PS Biggie to the top right to make it look like the edge of the table. Adding things like Digital Stickers: Bamboo Frames to frame the photo, plus a vase and a candle give the illusion of a table with knick-knacks on it.

Journaling: It seems like a funny thing to call a little girl, but we have always said that Betsy Grace has the memory of an elephant. She never forgets anything! She will remember things from years before that no one else remembers. She remembers the tiniest details about events and everyday occurrences. She is 6 years old and when we ask her how she remembers something, she tells us, "I'm a little elephant!"

When adding my text, the black spots on the embellishment were getting in the way of some of my words. To fix the problem, I used my Basic Round Brush and set the Foreground to white. Then I "painted" over the distracting black spots so my text was easier to read.

For this layout I really liked the alpha from Very Merry Collection Biggie. When I placed the alpha on my layout, I decided I wanted the cut-out letters to stand out just a little bit more against my background. To make a filling for the cut-out letters, I duplicated each letter layer and placed the new layer beneath the original. Then, I simply took a light color from my layout and made it my foreground color with the Eyedropper Tool. Then, while on the lower layer of each duplicated letter, I painted over just the letter cut-out portion with my Round Brush. By painting on the lower layer only, any part of the brush work that exceeds the letter boundary is hidden by the top layer, and it looks as though I am filling the letter cut-out. Then, to give the filled portion just a little more depth, I added a style from ScrapSimple Tools - Styles: Painted Canvas - Nostalgic 6401 Super Biggie to each of the lower alpha layers that I just brushed onto.

There are numerous ways you can use Brush Set: Celtic Knots 1. I'll explain the method I used on the blue knot on my layout. The knot comes as an outline shape. I used the Magic Wand Tool with "Contiguous" checked. I went around the knot and clicked on each inside space that I'd want to fill in. When I had the selection made ("marching ants" are showing), I clicked on "Create a New Layer" at the bottom of the Layers Palette. Then I used the Paint Bucket Tool to fill the new knot layer with color (any color). To this layer I applied the blue option from ScrapSimple Tools - Styles: Felt 8201 Super Biggie. Then I went back to the original outline layer of the knot and applied the pumpkin-colored option from ScrapSimple Tools - Styles: Autumn Suede Super Biggie. I simplified both layers and merged them together. Finally, I applied the "sides" option from ScrapSimple Tools – Actions: Mega Lift II – Circular Biggie so that it would appear to be lifting off the page somewhat on the left and right sides.
