Directions for one technique I did on this layout:
Originally, two of my photos were in color and one was in black and white. I used Melissa Renfro's ScrapSimple Tools - Actions: Photo Basics 5001 on each photo to make them all the same. This Action adds a sharpening layer to each photo, but this layer really emphasized the flaws of two of my photos. To fix this, I deleted the sharpening layers from each of those two photos.

Journaling: When I was twelve, my parents divorced. In the process of dividing everything up, many of our family photos were lost. These three photos are the only ones I have of me before I started school. I love looking back at these photos and seeing how much my daughters look like me when I was younger. We share the same straight and thin, light brown hair and crooked little smiles.

Although my photo had creases and a few spots, I left them untouched. I felt that these imperfections gave my photo character and interest. The only photo retouching I did was to adjust the brightness by going to Image> Adjustments> Levels.

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:
I love to create layouts that look as realistic as possible so I use drop shadows on almost every element on my page. However, with so many layers, adding drop shadows can be time consuming. To streamline this process, I highlight all of my paper layers in the Layers Palette by pressing Ctrl+Click. Once all of the layers are selected, I add a drop shadow by clicking on the fx symbol at the bottom of the Layers Palette. I repeat these steps for the next grouping of embellishments, such as flowers, and in no time, all of my page elements are appropriately shadowed.

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:
I wanted the string from Thao Cosgrove's ScrapSimple Embellishment Templates: String Fling to match the layout. I used the Eyedropper Tool to select a color from the layout. Then I went to Enhance> Adjust Color> Adjust Hue/Saturation and clicked on the "Colorize" box in the dialogue window. Then I adjusted the sliders a little to achieve the exact color I wanted.

Journaling: This is my favorite photo from Christmas 2009! The six of us are together, spending the holidays with the rest of the rest of the family and enjoying our break from school and work. I don't even remember what gifts we gave or we received! I just remember being happy and healthy together! Merry Christmas!

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:
I used a few different techniques to make the ScrapSimple Embellishment Templates: Lifted Photos - Doubles Biggie work better with my layout. First, I flipped all the layers horizontally to allow the subjects in my photos to be facing toward the center of the page. Next, I applied an off-white style from ScrapSimple Tools – Styles: Well Loved 5001 to each frame layer to make them go better with the retro coloring in my photos. Finally, the drop shadow layers were too dark for the yellow background paper, so I adjusted their color with a Hue/Saturation adjustment.

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:
I wanted to give the word "Love" from ScrapSimple Word Art Templates: Lifted Stencils a realistic painted-on look. After I colored the template using the "Adjust Hue/Saturation" settings in Photoshop Elements 9, I applied one of the options from ScrapSimple Tools - Styles: Painting Textures 8501. This gave it the look of a coat of paint daubed over letter stencils. To take it a step further, I wanted it to look like the photo under the "paint" had shifted a little bit. I duplicated the stencil layer and moved the new layer underneath the photo's shadow layer. I made a selection of the photo by holding down the Ctrl key and clicking on the thumbnail of the photo in the Layers Palette. With the "marching ants" around the photo, I selected the stencil layer below the photo and hit Delete. Then I went to Select> Inverse to move the "marching ants" to the areas outside of the photo. I selected the stencil layer above the photo and hit Delete. I hit Ctrl+D to turn off the "marching ants." Finally, I used the arrow keys to nudge the bottom stencil layer down and over just enough to make it look like the photo had shifted at a later time.

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:
Placing my photo and designs neatly and easily inside the smaller frame and the dog tags on this layout took three basic steps. First, I used the Paint Bucket to fill the inside of the frame. Second, I used my Magic Wand to select the filled area, and right-clicked and choose "Cut Via Layer" from the drop down menu. Third, I placed my photo on a layer above the new fill layer and used a clipping mask (Ctrl+G) to clip the photo to the fill layer. Now my photo looks like it was placed neatly inside the frame with no trimming or erasing.

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:
After clipping the blue paper to one of the masks from ScrapSimple Embellishment Templates: Artful Photo Masks 2, I wanted to add some additional geometric interest. First, I duplicated the mask and hid one layer (in case I messed up or changed my mind!). Then I used Brush Set: Circles Couture Biggie and stamped it in a few strategic places directly on the mask.
