Directions for one technique I did on this layout:
To add a little texture to the white background paper from Inspired Child Collection Biggie, I used Dynamic Brush Set: Splatter 4901 with my foreground and background colours set to their default colours. I placed the brush in the area just behind the photo (later erasing any stray splatters) and then applied the red color style from ScrapSimple Tools - Styles: Chalk Fill Vivid 9901 Biggie. It just added a little "oomph" to the otherwise plain background paper.

"Sissy" by Shari Payne

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:
The photo on this layout is 17 – 20 years old. It wasn't in bad shape but it wasn't in the best shape either. After I scanned my original photo I added some adjustment layers. I played with the sliders in Curves and Levels and then I added some Saturation and Vibrance. After applying the Noise> Dust & Scratches filter, I ran Heidi Dillon's ScrapSimple Tools - Actions: Clarify 11301 Mini. This really sharpened up my photo. It only took a minute or two and I went from a so-so scanned image to a really nice photo you'd think I had taken yesterday.

Journaling: My dad started building her when I was just a toddler so basically I grew up with her. She was part of the family really. In fact, my mom cried the day she went to live with someone else. That's really saying something considering the day I, her baby, moved out she started moving into my closet before I even woke up. To tell you the truth, I was just as sad. She was just like the little sister I never had. I even called her "Sissy."

"Making Memories" by Joann Brown

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:
I really like the look of the frame from Brandy Murry's Ephemera Collection Biggie, but in order of it to work with this layout, I needed to span the one-page-sized frame over two pages. By copying and pasting a section of the scallop border, I was able to make it span the double page spread.

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:
I wanted the background paper to have the same aged feeling as the photo. In order to achieve this, I layered the cream and neutral papers form Melissa Renfro's Well Loved Collection Biggie over her one of her ScrapSimple Paper Templates: Pretty Packages. I set the Blending Mode of the neutral paper to "Multiply" with an Opacity of 100%, and the Blending Mode of the cream paper to "Overlay" with an Opacity of 67%. This gave the paper a folded, lined appearance. Then I added another paper template from the ScrapSimple Paper Templates: Pretty Packages and used a clipping mask to make the green paper from the Well Loved Collection Biggie take its shape. Finally, I added one of the papers from ScrapSimple Paper Templates: Downtown and used a clipping mask to make the denim paper from Assemble Your Own Zoom Pages: Well Loved take the form of the template. This added the colors from the photo to the background paper and contributes to the worn look.

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:
To add some depth to my background paper, I layered one of the pretty papers from Back Porch Collection Biggie and played with the Blending Modes until I found one I liked. I ended up using "Overlay" at 25% Opacity. I also resized that layer so the paper fit within the stitching border. I like how the background ties in very nicely with the branch/leaf embellishment I used.

"Happy Childhood" by Elisha Barnett

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:
I wanted to retain the original yellowed coloring of the photo, but when I scanned them, they became rather dull and muddy looking. To fix that, I used the light version of ScrapSimple Tools - Actions: Photos That Pop PSE 1801 on them. The action did just what the title suggests - it made my photos "pop" by lightening and sharpening them.

"This Moment" by Jennifer McCabe

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:
I loved the look of the green leaf paper from Melissa Renfro's Well Loved Collection Biggie with my solid peachy pink paper, but I didn't want it to overwhelm my layout. I decided to use the corner brush from Brush Set: Misty, with my Eraser Tool to erase some of the peach paper and allow the green paper to peek through at the corners and around the photo. After a few Opacity adjustments, I had just the look I was after!

"Life Adventure" by Amy Flanagan

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:
For this layout, I wanted the "Life" portion of the title to look as if it was cut and pasted onto the different patches of paper. To do this, I made multiple copies of the word art from Inspired Child Collection Biggie. Then, I placed each copy over the appropriate layer of paper below and used a clipping mask to attach it to the layer below. This allowed the word art to take on the shape of the paper, creating the layered and shadowed effect so that the title looks layered onto the layout. The bottommost layer of the word art was not clipped to anything. Lastly, I used a layer mask and painted away the top extender of the letter L so that it would look like it slid right on up under the flap of yellow torn paper.

Journaling: This picture of Fritzy and me was always a favorite. It was taken while I was giving a presentation on birds at SDSU back in the early 80's. I like this picture because it's the best I have of Fritzy and me. We've been together 30 years! Fritzy was with me when I graduated from college, when I started my job, when I met my husband, when my kids were born and when my Dad died. He's my very special boy who I've known longer than anyone else!
