I wanted the main photo to use the "Stacked" Action listed below in the credits, but I wanted a matching single mat for the other two matted photos. I found that the Action creates the stacked photos as separate layers, so I could simply delete the extra layer and have a single matted photo if I desired. It's like having an extra feature in one product!

Journaling: Christopher finally took the plunge in May and decided to have Daddy take the training wheels off his bicycle. But Mommy won the honor of chasing after him repeatedly and helping him get going each time. It took less than 30 minutes for him to totally get the hang of it and by the next day he was completely independent starting and stopping! GO Christopher! These photos show him with his electronic set hooked to the front. He made the siren from the set and drove his "police bike" around the circle.

To wrap the ribbon from ScrapSimple Embellishment Templates: Ribbons To Go III around the blue pole, I placed the ribbon template over the blue pole and colorized it. I used my Eyedropper Tool to pick out a yellow color from the yellow flower in Rustic Timberland Collection Mini. Then, I rasterised the ribbon layer so I could color it. I clicked on Cmd+U (Ctrl+U on a PC), which brought up the Hue/Saturation menu. I clicked on "Colorize," and then I played with the sliders until I was completely happy with the yellow color of the ribbon. Once this was done, I gave the ribbon layer a layer mask and lowered the Opacity of the layer so I could see through the ribbon to see which part of it I wanted to erase. Using my Brush Tool - and making sure my foreground color was black and sizing the brush to the correct size - I erased the part of the ribbon that I wanted to appear behind the blue pole. Then I brought the layer's Opacity back up to 100% to check that I was happy with the way it wove around the blue pole.

Journaling: This year you finally got to participate in the Weetbix Kids Triathlon. You had to swim 20 metres in the ocean, ride 500 metres on your bicycle and run 200 metres around a track. You were allowed no help from anyone when changing from your bathers to your riding and running gear and you made us so very, very proud of you for your amazing efforts.

I needed my alphas to stand out from my tiles so they would be more readable. I usually use a drop shadow for this kind of effect. But this time I decided to try something a little different and used ScrapSimple Tools - Styles: Punch Out 5401. This made my alphas look as if they were set into the tiles. It was fun to break from my normal pattern!

I really wanted to use the fun word art from Zip Kit: Hopscotch and my own journaling on this layout, but having the word art in the upper-right corner made my layout look unbalanced. I duplicated the word art two times and placed each duplicated layer in two spots towards the bottom of my layout. This created a subtle visual triangle that helped bring some balance back to my page.

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:
I had a very specific look in mind when I placed the hinges on my layout. I wanted this to look a bit like it was a page out of a book - an older book, but not an antique. To get the soft-yet-aged look I wanted, I placed my first hinge on my layout and then duplicated it by clicking Ctrl+J (Layer> New> Layer via Copy). I selected the top hinge layer by clicking on its thumbnail image in the Layers Palette and applied the Tarnished Silver style from ScrapSimple Tools - Styles: Metal 5001 to it. This made the finer details of the hinge disappear, but we'll get those back in a minute. My next step was to simplify the layer I just applied the style to. I did this by right-clicking on its thumbnail image in the Layers Palette and choosing "Simplify." Next, I applied the Brushed Aluminum style from ScrapSimple Tools - Styles: Metal 5001. Finally, I reduced the Opacity of the top hinge layer to 38%. This allowed those fine details to show through while still having the aged look created by the application of styles.

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:
To create the effect on the two smaller pictures, I used ScrapSimple Tools - Actions: Vintage PSE 6502 Mini. I chose the black-and-white option. Then, I chose the Blending Mode called "Soft Light" in order to make the photos blend into the background. This made them blend more than I wanted, so I duplicated the layer. That made them show up just a little bit more, but still allowed the larger main photo to be the focus.

Journaling: You got this stuffed giraffe from MeMaw and PaPaw on your 2nd birthday. You loved it from the start and named it Giraffey. Giraffey takes the place of your Blankie in a pinch! If you can't find Blankie, you will get Giraffey and hold him by one foot while you suck your thumb. You are four years old now and Giraffey is still your special friend. Scarlett and Giraffey. The color of my daughter's shirt clashed with the colors of the Bella Marie Collection Biggie which I used for this layout, so I changed the color of her shirt. First, I added a new layer above the photo layer. Then I changed the Blending Mode to "Color." Next, I changed my foreground color to purple, and using a Small Round Brush, I simply brushed the purple color over the shirt. This allowed the details of the shirt to show through, and since I brushed on a new layer, I didn't alter the original photo layer.

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:
For this layout, I wanted a large blended photo the size of my background paper. I placed the photo on a layer above the paper I chose for my background and enlarged it by pulling out the corner of the photo while it was selected. I used Ctrl+G to clip the photo to the paper. I tried several Blending Modes and found that "Color Burn" gave me a good result, though it was a little dark. I reduced the Opacity to 46% and liked it much better. To add just the slightest bit of texture to the photo, I ran the Embossed version of ScrapSimple Tools - Actions: Stroke 9901 PSE on my photo. This gave me a new layer, and I gave my new embossed layer the same settings: "Color Burn" on Blending Mode and 46% Opacity.

I really liked a photo cluster in Tender Heart Collection Mini, but the colors didn't work at all with the bright colors on my layout. I could have spent the time tediously changing the colors on each embellishment in the cluster, but that would have sent my frustration levels into high gear. As I looked over the embellishments in the Moments Collection Biggie, I realized there were similar embellishments as the cluster I liked so much. I decided to mimic the Tender Heart cluster using embellishments for the Moments Collection Biggie. First, I placed the Tender Heart photo cluster on my layout and used it as a guide as I layered on the Moments embellishments. When I was finished, I deleted the original photo cluster layer, leaving behind my newly created cluster.
