Directions for one technique I did on this layout:
To make rounded corners on my photos, I took my Rectangular Marquee Tool and made a rectangle around the subject in my photo. Making sure my photo layer was highlighted in the Layers Palette, I went to Select> Modify> Smooth. Then I played with the pixel settings and chose 75 pixels. Next, I chose Select> Modify> Feather and set the feather radius to 1. Finally, I chose Select> Inverse and then pressed Delete to cut out the excess of my photo, leaving my photo with the rounded corners. Then I pressed Ctrl+D to get rid of my "marching ants."

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:
I wanted the white flowers on Ang Campbell's Aloha Friday Paper to serve as embellishments on my desktop layout. First, I selected the Magic Wand Tool with a Tolerance of 32 and Contiguous unchecked. Then I clicked on a white flower. The "marching ants" appeared around all the flowers. I copied the selection, created a new layer in my Layers Palette, and pasted the selection to the new layer. Finally, I applied the white option of Amanda Sok's ScrapSimple Tools - Styles: Opalescent Glass 6401 Biggie to the layer.

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:
For this layout, I used two different ScrapSimple Digital Layout Album Templates: 12x12 Mini Clusters templates and combined them to make a double page layout. To help the layout flow from a single-page to a double-page layout, I rearranged some of the elements of the templates. I love the versatility that digital layout templates provide; they are a great way to start your layout and provide you a lot of flexibility to make the template your own.

For the large sketch, I applied ScrapSimple Tools - Actions: Sketch It PS 8501 Mini and layered it over ScrapSimple Embellishment Templates: Photo Masks – Downtown to give it a soft, sketched edge. I also applied ScrapSimple Tools - Styles: Vintage Canvas 6501 to the mat layer. The remaining photos were color-adjusted in Adobe Lightroom.

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:
I wanted to give the slides from ScrapSimple Embellishment Templates: Archived a fun look. For each one, I opened a new layer above the slide, then filled it with the color I had chosen. I clipped the color layer to the slide layer (Ctrl+G). I scrolled through the different Blending Modes and found "Color Burn" gave a nice effect. I like how the upper left seems brighter than the lower right.

One very common way of changing up a Digital Layout Template is to rotate it 90, 180, or 270 degrees. I decided to make this template look even more different by only rotating it 45 degrees. This gives me four more options for using the same template!

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:
I love making calendars as gifts for friends and family. I really like to make wall calendars that can display not only the days of the month, but also a layout. Since 12x12-inch printing can sometimes be costly, I thought 4x6-inch calendars would be a very cost effective way to scrap. My only issue is that most of them are just a calendar or only have room for one photo. I remedied this by using a traditional calendar template for the lower portion and a 4x6-inch ScrapSimple Digital Layout Template for the top. After I print my layouts, I use my binding machine to attach the parts together for a hanging wall calendar.

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:
For this layout, I wanted to focus on the beach theme with light airy embellishments and calm colors. The Bella Marie Collection Biggie was the perfect choice. I wanted to keep embellishments to a minimum, but as I was placing the photos of Belle on the layout, I needed to "ground" her in a creative way. I didn't want her "floating" off the page - I wanted her "walking" onto the page. So I did two things to achieve that.
First, I adapted the frame from Assemble Your Own Zoom Pages: 4x6 Bella Marie and added ScrapSimple Tools - Styles: Sand 6501 Biggie to it. I layered it under the photos but above the mat. Then, using a technique from Scrap Girls 2008 Digital Scrap Link Class: A Fine Art Touch to Your Layouts, I painted-in portions of the frame to make it look light, but with a lot of texture at the same time. Then, I placed the top edge of the frame just under Belle's feet, so it looks like she is walking right on the top of the frame. I duplicated the frame layer and moved it over so that the frame would extend under the length of the three photos and then off the page.
Second, I took the word art from Assemble Your Own Zoom Pages: 4x6 Bella Marie and laid several copies of the word art across the middle of the layout. Then, I changed the Blending Mode of each copy so that it was noticeable, but subtle, over portions of the layout. Finally, I made sure the word art ran right off each edge of the layout. This subtly gives weight to hold down Belle where she's walking and keeps her from floating off the page.

Digital Layout Templates are a great solution for when you need to get a layout done quickly or are lacking "mojo." They're also a great starting point to mix things up and make the layout really your own. In this case, I altered the layout to create a more whimsical feel in keeping with the mood of the photo.
