QUESTION: Can someone help me with the EXIF function to keep track of supplies used? I'm usually pretty good with figuring out stuff, but this has me stumped. When I go look at posted layouts in the Gallery, I can click on "View EXIF properties" and see all the products used, very nice and neat, except I can't figure out how they did it. If I go to the properties of the picture I do see where I can type in notes, but those items don't show up for me when I upload my picture. Any help would be great or at least point me to the area that I need to go read up on. Thanks in advance.

ANSWER: In Photoshop Elements (PSE), go to File> File Info and put in all your information there (in the Caption box). Then when you upload it to the Scrap Girls Gallery, it will automatically appear.

ORIGINAL POSTER'S RESPONSE: Okay, I see the Caption box, which is just one line; so I just type everything in there? Still confused, but guess I'll just have to make a layout and try it out. Gives me a good excuse to get to work on something new!

ANSWER: Also, when you save it to a JPG, it shows up in there automatically if you have put it in the PSD file and saved it there. But when I tried it to make my siggy, which is a PNG, the info didn't transfer to that one.

ANSWER: You can type as much as you want to in the Caption box. What I do to put my things in there is after I've put an item onto my layout, I make that item's file the active file, do Save As and the file name of the item will be highlighted in the Save box. Do Ctrl+C to copy and then cancel out of the Save As box. Now, go to your File> File Info and place your cursor in the Captions box and do Ctrl+V to paste the file name in. I also paste that file name into the layer's name box.
You will lose the information if you do Save For Web, so be sure that you just save it as a JPG at the proper size for posting in the gallery.

QUESTION: Hi there! I have Photoshop Elements 8 (PSE8). I bought several digital brushes, styles, and actions from Scrap Girls. I'm still pretty new to this, so this might be a dumb question, but how do I access them in PSE? I bought basic shadows, so can I put them in PSE's drop shadow choices?

ANSWER: When you purchased the products, you should have also received a download link for an instructional PDF: "1_SG_Brushes_Instructions." That file will have step-by-step instructions for installing the product in PSE. After it's installed, you will find the brushes in the Brush Palette (when the Brush Tool is active, up at the top of the workspace is a drop-down menu where you can see all your brushes), and the styles and actions will be in the Styles and Effects palettes (above the Layers Palette, over on the right side of the screen).

ANSWER: The other part of your question is, yes, you can add the new drop shadow styles to the drop shadow category if you would like. When you have them installed, go to this thread for a long and complete discussion of how to do that. (The thread is for PSE 6 and Vista, but the only thing that may be different is your computer's file name; I use PSE 8 and Windows 7.)
I found the easiest way to set up my own categories was by thinking of where I would look for a style. So I have a Fabric category, for example, that ranges from faux fur to leather and denim to knitted. The good thing is that you can change your mind at any time, just by changing the .xml file. (See above thread.)
Have fun with all your new styles and brushes!!
PS: I don't load all my brushes into PSE; I keep the .abr files in their own folder on my desktop and do Load Brushes to get them from it. If you want to learn more about brushes, I highly recommend Mastering Brushes for Photoshop Elements, an eBook in the Boutique, that will also teach you how to put them into categories.

QUESTION: Hi, I'm hoping someone will be able to help me with this. I have PSE 7 on Windows XP and have the Brush Set: Naturescape. I just tried to use one of the brushes, but I got a message that reads: "Could not load the brushes because the file is not compatible with this version of Photoshop." I've had this set for quite some time, and I'm sure I've used it in the past, so I don't understand why I'm getting this message. Has anyone else had this problem? Any suggestions as to what I can do to fix it?

ANSWER: My best thought is to restart PSE, and then if that doesn't work, restart your computer. If they are in an .abr file, they ought to load in any version.

ORIGINAL POSTER'S RESPONSE: I already tried that, restarted both PSE and then my computer. No luck.

ANSWER: I wonder if something happened to the file itself. Computers can do weird things. Can you load up any other brushes successfully?

ORIGINAL POSTER'S RESPONSE: Yep, I don't seem to have any trouble with any other brushes, just Naturescape.

ANSWER: Maybe you could try downloading it again? It might be that it got messed up during the download. If you do that, delete the original file off of your computer and then download it to a new spot. If that still doesn't work, send an email to Angie at [email protected]. She'll help you get it sorted out!

ORIGINAL POSTER'S RESPONSE: Yea! It worked after I deleted the files, re-downloaded and re-installed. The brush set is fine now. Thanks to everyone!
