Directions for one technique I did on this layout:
I wanted to use the circle cluster frame from Year Round Collection Biggie, but it had colors in it that didn't flow with my camping theme. I used a paper from Christmas Wonderland Collection and clipped it (Ctrl+G) to the circle cluster frame. Then I used the Elliptical Marquee Tool to select some of the circles and place them on their own layer by making the selection and hitting Ctrl+J. I added a shadow using ScrapSimple Tools - Actions: Shadow Layer 6501 PSE to the new layers of circles to make them stand out from each other. With this shadow action, I could move the shadow around a little bit as needed.

Journaling: We had a great time on our camping trip. Yes, it was an extremely cold night, so we wore our regular clothes and coats to sleep in. Yes, our air mattress lost its air. Regardless, we enjoyed the trip and stories from it. October '08

I really wanted to use ScrapSimple Digital Layout Templates: Layout Masks, because they have the fantasy feel I was looking for. However, none of the templates quite worked with my photos the way I was hoping. So I decided to take pieces from each of the three templates in the kit and move them around until I found just the right combination.

Journaling: One of my very favorite family vacations is the trip we took to Disneyland for Kalyssa's fifth birthday. We took her to the Bibbity Bobbity Boutique where she picked out her favorite Princess gown (Aurora, of course) and accessories and then they did her hair, nails, and make-up, complete with hairpiece! It was so amazing to watch her play the part of Royal Birthday Princess all day long. She had the perfect posture, poise, and royal wave. But most of all, the joy in her face glowed like a beacon! She truly is the most beautiful Birthday Princess!

To make the border, I used two papers from the Playlist Collection and blended them using the Blending Mode set to "Luminosity." I also used ScrapSimple Tools – Styles: Iridescent Glass 6401 on the Skyline embellishments to make them show up better.

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:
When I put the neutral-colored word art from the American City Collection on the neutral paper, it got lost. To make it pop, I used corresponding letters from the set of alpha letters in the same collection and placed them underneath each letter of the word art. I merged the alpha layers and added a drop shadow for extra dimension.

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:
I wanted to bring attention to the main photo in a unique way, so I decided to use my title as a non-traditional frame. I placed the beaded wire frame from Circus on Parade Collection onto my layout and resized it. Next, I pulled the alphas onto my layout and arranged them around the circle. Finally, I merged the alphas, duplicated the layer, and stroked the bottom alpha layer with a 7-pixel stroke. To make the title pop a little more, I applied the teal option of ScrapSimple Tools - Styles: Weathered Wood 6401 Super Biggie to the bottom alpha layer.

Journaling: Our trip to Orlando was filled with adventure, entertainment, and fun! We trekked Universal Studios' Islands of Adventure and also dined among the pirates as they battled for treasure. Dylan felt too scared to pose for a photo with the characters from Dr. Seuss books, yet willingly stood under the ferocious faux T-Rex for a picture. The most amusing moment arrived when Brian and Dylan recognized the Zax, standing un-budged in their tracks. The two stood foot-to-foot, face-to-face - stubborn Zax!

I think overlays are so fun to work with! For this layout, I wanted to use ScrapSimple Transparency Overlays: Street Grunge - Scratches. First, I opened the overlay and brought it into my layout. I wanted to apply the overlay only on the photo and not on the entire layout. I placed the overlay on top of the photo, then I selected the photo and went to Select> Inverse. With that command, I selected everything except the photo. Then I selected the layer of the overlay and clicked Delete. By doing this, the overlay was only on top of the photo. Finally, I went to Layer> Layer Style> Color Overlay and painted the overlay with the color I wanted.

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:
I wanted to add some dimension to my title, so I decided to add ScrapSimple Tools - Styles: Plastic 6501 Biggie to it. After positioning my alphas the way I wanted them, I merged them all together and then duplicated the layer. Then I added the "Clear" style choice to my top title layer. This allowed the original alpha pattern to remain on my title, as well as adding the extra dimension.
Software used: Adobe Photoshop Elements 5.0

Journaling: The Battle of Yorktown came to an end on October 19, 1781. This was the last battle fought during the American Revolutionary War, securing independence for the American colonies from British rule. We happened to be visiting the area during Yorktown's historic anniversary and were able to participate in the celebration. We enjoyed watching the parade, hearing the various marching bands, and seeing the many military costumes dating back to the Revolutionary War.
