Directions for one technique I did on this layout:
I wanted some paint strokes behind parts of the picture frame. I used several selections from Brush Set: Paint Strokes 11001 Biggie. I applied the red and blue colors to them using the Paint Bucket Tool. Then I used ScrapSimple Tools - Styles: Painting Textures 8501 on the paint strokes to give them a nice, brushed-on look.

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:
I wanted to use a different combination of papers for the layered look of my layout. I chose different textures of papers and styles to add interest. I use Finder (on a Mac) to organize my files. Finder has a built-in search function, so I typed "paper red" into the box, and then filtered my results to my Collections folder and "images only." I had quite a list of images to sort through, but it gave me a good jumping-off point. I found the Red Brocade paper from Eclectic Collection Biggie, and then I was inspired to use one of the coordinating styles on another paper strip.

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:
To make my title, I typed out "American" on one layer and "Cuties" on a second layer. Working with the first layer, I hit Ctrl+Click on the thumbnail to select the word, and then I added a Gradient Adjustment layer. I double-clicked on the gradient to customize my colors using colors in my layout. After I was done and it looked the way I wanted, I merged the Adjustment Layer with the Type Layer (doing all this separately on each word so I could move them around) and then added a texture style.
Software used: Adobe Photoshop CS3 and Adobe Lightroom 2

Journaling: Tony & Jen invited us to their house for Memorial Day this year. There was amazing BBQ, lots of friends, and the kids had a blast! The kids had a huge yard to play in and a big blow-up triple water slide jumpy house! They also had one of those electric kid-sized Jeeps that was such a HUGE hit, it kept running out of batteries. We all had a wonderful time and look forward to the next BBQ on the 4th of July!

To make the rolled tear on this page look even more realistic, I used the Burn Tool to darken the edges of the paper curl where it meets the torn paper.

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:
I wanted to combine the string and flowers cluster from Back to the Basics Collection Mini with the star and berry cluster from Heartland Collection Biggie, but I didn't want it to look as if one was just sitting on top of the other. In order to do this, I put copies of the string and flower cluster on two layers with the star and berry cluster in between. Then, with my Eraser Tool, I erased away any part of the top layer so it would look like it was below the star and berry cluster. I added a drop shadow style to the two lower layers only.

Journaling: When we got back from watching fireworks at the airbase, we pulled out the sparklers, and the kids had some more fun in the backyard.

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:
I added stars to the red paper from the Snow Fun Collection by creating a new layer above it, selecting the Brush Tool, and choosing a star from the Brush Set: Joy. I varied the size and angle of the brush to give it a more scattered look. Then I switched to the Eraser Tool and selected a brush from the Brush Set: Beautiful Distress. I adjusted both the Flow and Opacity to 50% and lightly erased portions of the stars to make them look distressed.

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:
I wanted the circle shape behind the photos to have a baseball look. First, I tried making the circle shape itself a baseball, but it overwhelmed the photos. Instead, I layered the Baseball Crazy paper from Baseball Collection Mini over the blue paper from Painted Cardboard Paper Biggie. I changed the Blending Mode of the Baseball Crazy paper to Linear Burn. The effect wasn't quite right, so I duplicated the layer and set the Blending Mode of that paper to "Pin Light."
