Directions for one technique I did on this layout:
I wanted the Motherhood title to have more texture and to stand out against the background. First, I duplicated the title and simplified the bottom layer. Then, I applied a 15-pixel stroke to the bottom title layer. For a finishing touch, I applied one of the paper styles that from ScrapSimple Tools - Actions: Paper Tears PSE 5001 to the bottom title layer.

I knew I wanted a tree on my layout, but I wanted a different look to it. I used the tree from the Balderdash Collection Biggie for the trunk and the overall shape. Then I used a chipboard flower from the Bamboozled Collection Biggie to make the leaves. I changed the trunk to brown and used ScrapSimple Tools - Styles: Painting Textures to give it some texture.

Journaling: Now that I know I am expecting a boy, someone said I will be a little bit of pink surrounded by blue. As Mother's Day approaches, I am thrilled about all of the blue surrounding me. 2010

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:
To thread the title word Love through the chain link, I placed the alpha where I wanted it in relation to the chain link. Then, I gave the chain link a layer mask and with my Brush Tool, making sure the foreground color was black, I erased part of the link to give the illusion of the chain link threading through the alpha's loops.

The background paper I used was from the Spring Inspiration Collection. It has subtle flowers and words blended into a wonderful array of soft colors. To create my title, I picked a soft shade of purple and then placed a swirl and horizontal bar from Brush Set: Swirlicious Biggie on a layer above my background paper. With the brush layer highlighted, I scrolled through the Blending Modes until I found one that gave me a similar look. In this case, I chose one called "Exclusion." Then I added my text in the same purple shade, but in order to allow it to stand out, I left its Blending Mode set to "Normal." Now I have a perfectly coordinated title!

First, to create the heart in my layout, I created a new layer, and then used the Custom Shape Tool to draw a heart the desired size. From there, I used the Paint Tool to fill in the shape and then applied the blue paper using a clipping mask.

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:
To get the look of an embossed paper which has been dry-brushed with ink, I used a paper template from ScrapSimple Paper Templates: Floral Fancies Biggie by saving the paper template as a PSD file and using it as a texture filter on my solid paper. I did not change the scale of the template when running the filter. Then I put the paper template over the solid paper, recolored it using a color picked from the green paper, and erased away parts of it with a grungy brush from the Brush Set: Grungelle.

I almost always use two papers as the background for a layout. I really like to make them contrast with each other. In this layout, I clipped the blue paper from the Zac and Sarah Collection Biggie onto the paper template from the ScrapSimple Paper Templates: Off The Wall - Torn. Then, I changed the Blending Mode to "Overlay," merged them, and reduced the size a little to show the paper that's behind it. Finally, I put one of the ScrapSimple Paper Templates: Scripted above this layer and painted it blue.

The placement of my word art in the title echoes the shape of my photo and embellishments in the layout. This is such an easy way to give a layout a feel of completeness - without a lot of effort. I also mixed up my title a bit to add interest: Using word art from a collection, an alpha from another collection, and an embellishment, a font, and a photo located at the bottom to create an anchor.

My embellishments, photo, and word art got a big workout as I tried to find the right placement for each on this page. I wanted to keep it simple. And in the end, I did. When scrapbooking, keep in mind that odd numbers are best. Using three elements is a good idea and is very pleasing to the eye. I incorporated that number in several places on this layout, from my layered photos to my color palette. I feel it kept things simple and was very pleasing to look at.

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:
For this layout, I wanted a highly textured "feel" that would entice the viewer to find more detail every time they looked at it. To achieve that look, I started with a solid background paper from Spring Inspiration Solid Papers. On top of that I placed a patterned paper from Spring Inspiration Collection. Then I rotated the patterned paper until the weight of the design balanced with the photos that I already had on my page. Then, I changed the Blending Mode to "Dissolve" for the top paper until it was pleasing to my eye. I also added several other subtle text and word art elements, all using a Blending Mode set to "Overlay" to add to the overall texture of the layout.
