Concentration Is The Thing

"Concentration is the thing," she said. "If you don't implement it into your life, it will be very problematic."

"Problematic," he repeated.

"Yes, problematic," she continued. "Because if you are unable to concentrate, you are not able to sustain the energy required to make progress in the task you have been assigned. Your task is critical."

"Critical. It is critical."

"It is critical because everyone is depending upon you to complete your project correctly. If you do not do it correctly, then confusion will ensue."

"Ensue."

"Ensue," her eyes stared seriously. "No one will know which side to use. Should they use the right side or the left side? It will be backwards. And backwards is unfortunate."

"Unfortunate."

"It certainly would be unfortunate. Innocent people will starve. You don't want to be the cause of people starving, do you?"

He shook his head. No, he didn't want people to starve.

"Are you ready then? Will you pay attention?"

He nodded. Yes, he would pay attention.

"Remember... the spoon goes on the right side of the plate and the fork goes on the left side. Do not mix them up."

"But, Mommy," he said. "I don't know which hand is right and which hand is left."

"Which hand do you eat with?"

"This one."

"That is your right side."

The little boy twidgeted in his shoes. "Can I watch cartoons? I'm tired of playing house."

"Oh, go ahead," his sister replied. "I'll make the dog play with me."

Here's one of my unfinished layouts. I started working on it about a year ago.

The Do-Over

When I start doing a page, I usually start with a composition, a journaling, and colors. That's what I've done here. Notice that photos on this page look scattered, but they are in order. I love order in my layouts. Do you see this invisible line (here in red) visually linking all of photos and the journaling? Even the text is aligned to the left to emphasize it.

I used the 12x12 grid, which comes with the Ten Basic Design Principles eBook, to help myself position all the elements in "sweet spots." Sweet spots are the places where focal points work best. They fall at the cross section of adjoining thirds.

I decided to place my daughter's large picture in one sweet spot, to put two supporting photos in two other sweet spots, and to reserve the remaining sweet spot for my journaling.

Next, I added a little bit of color and had fun with embellishments, brushes, and styles. I made sure that I used several spots of dark pink as well as scattered some silver stars throughout the page. This trick guides the viewer's eye and keeps it within the page.

APRIL EVENTS

April Message Board Game: Progressive Word Scramble!

The object of the game is to correctly guess the name of a product in the Scrap Girls Boutique by solving clues and unscrambling letters we give you. Each day, you will be given a letter found in the product name as well as a clue. You won't know how many letters are in the product name until it is complete. We will keep giving clues until a correct guess is made.

The designer's name or the word "Collection" are not included as part of the puzzle. Letters from any other words in product names (such as "Biggie," "Brush" or "Transparency") may be given as part of the puzzle.

Be the first to answer it correctly and win a $5.00 Gift Certificate to the Boutique! You are only allowed ONE guess per daily clue, and you are only allowed ONE win per month. When you make your guess, you MUST provide a link to the boutique item you are referencing. We will play the game daily during the entire month of April. When a correct answer is given, the new puzzle will start the following day.

Layout Contests:

April Monthly Layout Contest: It's time to get your silly on! For this month's layout contest, we want to see layouts featuring the silly or mischievous antics in your life. Let us see the silly faces, crazy clothes and hilarious moments. Create your layout and post it in the April Layout Contest Gallery by Midnight on April 30th. Be sure to list your credits in the description or under the EXIF Properties. If your layout is one of the two chosen, you will win a $10 gift certificate to the Scrap Girls Boutique!

Club Concepts Layout Contest: Post your new layout using the current club selection (either the Scrap Girls Club or the ScrapSimple Club) in our Scrap Girls Club Members Gallery or the ScrapSimple Club Members' Gallery. Be sure to list all of the Scrap Girls products you used. If your layout is chosen, it will be showcased as a Club Concepts layout winner, and you will win a $5 Gift Certificate to the Scrap Girls Boutique!
