I love to take pictures and play with them in Photoshop, but with the rush of everyday life, that pleasure has been left behind. That's why I really love ScrapSimple Tools - Actions. For this layout, I used two actions for my images: ScrapSimple Tools - Actions: Photo Basics 5001 (right photo) and ScrapSimple Tools - Actions: Altered Photos PS 8201 (center photo). I opened the photo in Photoshop, and then I applied all six effects so I could choose which one best matches my layout. The Scrap Girls Boutique has so many wonderful actions to use in pictures, giving me some very quick ways to create fantastic looks with our memories!

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:
I wanted to emphasize my little boy's beautiful eyes, as well as give my layout a contemporary feel. To do this, I used a combination of ScrapSimple Tools - Actions: Photos That Pop 1801 Mini and ScrapSimple Tools - Lightroom Presets: Classic Color Wash 10301. It gave me the look that I was after - a wash of cool blue and the dramatic contrast of my son's dark hair and eyes.

Journaling: It's not quite summer yet but the weather has already started to turn warm. What better way to spend a lazy weekend than to chill out at the pool. You were so happy to wear your goggles again!

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:
I used the twig and yellow flower from Mossy Collection Biggie to create the look of a set of brackets which, in turn, framed the main elements of my layout. To make them identical, I created the first set and then chose the twig and flower layer by clicking on their thumbnail images in the Layers Palette. With both layers highlighted, I linked the layers by clicking on the "Link" at the top of the Layers Palette. Next, I right-clicked on one of the highlighted layers, and chose Duplicate Layers> OK. I needed to flip and rotate one set of my "brackets." Since the original layers were still highlighted, and Photoshop Elements allows you to flip and rotate several layers at once, I chose Image> Rotate> Flip Layer Horizontal and then Image> Rotate> Flip Layer Vertical. (Make sure you choose Flip Layer when you do this. It's really easy to accidentally flip your entire layout!) This created a mirror image of my first set of twig/flower brackets. Finally, I selected my Move Tool and moved the linked layers to the other side of my layout. This really made my images center stage!

"Club Cool at the Epcot Center" by Joann Brown

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:
When I was planning this layout, I knew I wanted to tell a story about the event - a boy in Club Cool at the Epcot Center trying all the different sodas. As I thought about this layout, it seemed that a comic-strip approach would be so much fun. Using ScrapSimple Tools - Actions: Comical 8301 Mini, I quickly and easily converted my photos into comics. I added lots of elements to emphasize the Club Cool concept (washers for bubbles, paper in wave shapes, the overall color), and tried to keep the colors vibrant, yet with an overall comic book theme.

"Babo" by Jo Corne

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:
Using ScrapSimple Tools - Lightroom Presets: Classic Sepia 10301 and ScrapSimple Tools - Lightroom Presets: Vintage Postcard 10301 Mini, I followed the instructions on how to add these to Lightroom's presets. With a few clicks of my mouse, I was having fun deciding which preset to use. On the photo of Aaron and his Babo, I first gave the photo the Vintage Postcard preset. Then I used the original photo and gave it the Classic Sepia preset. I placed both versions of the photo into Photoshop, one on top of the other with the sepia photo on top. Then I gave this sepia photo a layer mask and erased Babo's shirt to bring up the color of the shirt underneath to match the other photo as well as the tone of my layout. Finally, I merged these two layers into one.

Journaling: Gran, granny, grandma, nanna and ouma are all names you could have called your grandmother. In Yiddish we say bobba and when we tried to teach Jessie to say 'bobba' she turned it around and said 'babo'. This stuck and when Aaron was born, we taught him to say 'babo' too. People always think we are saying 'bubble' but we just smile to ourselves and keep it as our little secret!

The word art that I wanted to use from Just Be You Word Art Mini was a little too bright and playful-looking for my layout. To fix this, I applied one of the options in ScrapSimple Tools - Styles: Subtle Photos 7601 Biggie. This allowed me to keep some of the color to the word art, but in a more subdued manner. Similarly, I used ScrapSimple Tools - Style: Vintage Canvas 6501 on the dove from Prayer and Praise Collection Mini. Now, both items match my layout better.

Journaling: I know that I can't be there every moment to shield you from bad influences. I know that there are some things in life that you will have to deal with and go through. I know that you are going to have disappointments and hurts. I know that you will have choices to make. I know that I can't protect you from everything that I want to.
But... I know that I can pray for you. I can do my best to teach you God's word so that you will be armed with the Truth. I can be there to give you advice and comfort when needed. I love the two of you more than you can imagine and pray for you each day.

The ability to resize papers and embellishments is one quality that really drew me into digital scrapbooking. For this particular layout, I knew I wanted to use an element from ScrapSimple Paper Templates: Quick Collage. I didn't want to use it as a full page, because I wanted more background and space to add other embellishments. To answer my problem, I resized my Quick Collage Paper and made it smaller and then added a frame around it as a transition for my background paper. When resizing papers and other embellishments, it's important that items are resized by dragging the corners (not the sides) in or out. When pulling on the sides of a paper or embellishment, the item will stretch or squish and lose its correct proportions. By using the corners, you keep the correct proportions and dimensions and still meet your sizing needs.

I wanted the film negative from ScrapSimple Embellishment Templates: Fantastic Frames to stand out against the dark background, but remain black. First, I applied the lead option from ScrapSimple Tools - Styles: Wires 6401. Then I applied the black option from ScrapSimple Tools - Styles: Painted Plastic 6401 Super Biggie.
