Directions for one technique I did on this layout:
To give a realistic, aged look to the frames from ScrapSimple Embellishment Templates: Old Photo Frames Biggie, I selected the frame layer in the Layers Palette and went to Enhance> Adjust Color> Color Variations. Then I adjusted the "amount" slider down to give less color. Next, I increased the red and decreased the blue. This gave a nice yellow/brown tint to the template. I also adjusted the saturation on one of the frames because I thought the color was nice, but just a little too intense.

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:
To create the stitched shamrock shapes, I used the Large Heart, Small Heart, and Swirl from ScrapSimple Embellishment Templates: Sew Doodly Shapes. On a blank document, I duplicated and arranged the hearts. Then I added the swirl for the stem. I selected the Eraser Tool and erased parts of the hearts and swirl until I achieved the shamrock look I wanted. Finally, I saved the shamrock files in PNG format, so they would retain the transparent background, and I could use them on future layouts.

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:
I wanted to use one of the elements in Edge Decor Embellishment Mini - Loved. The one I chose had a pink paper strip in it and a pink flower. I didn't think pink worked well for the St. Patrick's Day theme, so I used the Magnetic Lasso Tool and selected all of the pieces of the pink paper strip that were showing. Then I copied that selection (Ctrl+J) to its own layer. I changed the color to orange using Adjust/Hue Saturation, then I played with the Blending Modes to get the look I wanted. For the flower, I opened a blank layer above the flower. I used a Soft Round Brush in orange and painted over the top of the flower. Then played with the Blending Modes on that layer to get the color and look I wanted.

To use ScrapSimple Paper Templates: Curled Edges, I placed my paper layer over the template and chose Blending Mode "Overlay" at 100%. Then to deepen the color, I duplicated the paper layer and chose Blending Mode "Overlay" at 100% as well.

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:
I used ScrapSimple Paper Templates: Scrubbed Raw to create the green background paper by placing a Hue/Saturation adjustment layer on top of it. I did this by placing the ScrapSimple paper I wanted to use on my layout, and then while it was still highlighted, I clicked on the little grey-and-white circle at the top of my Layers Palette. This opened a fly-out box from which I chose Hue/Saturation. Next I moved the sliders until I had the background color I wanted. The curved edges of the green paper are a result of clipping both the paper and adjustment layers to the curved mat in ScrapSimple Digital Layout Templates: Corners All Around and then clicking Ctrl+G (Layer> Group With Previous). To get the rough edge, I chose the brush from ScrapSimple Tools - Actions: Paper Tears 5001, set it to white, and carefully brushed the edges of the ScrapSimple Paper Templates: Scrubbed Raw layer.

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:
To make only the stitching green on the paper template from ScrapSimple Paper Templates: Sew Doodly Biggie, I used my Magic Wand tool (Tolerance = 100, Contiguous unchecked) to select the black stitching. When I had the "marching ants" around the stitching, I right-clicked and chose Layer via Copy, which created a new layer with just the stitching. I added a Hue/Saturation adjustment layer above the stitching layer and clipped to the stitching layer below. I picked a green color from my layout and checked "Colorize" in the adjustment layer, moving the sliders until I got a color that I liked.

Paper templates are a great way to add new dimension to an existing paper. In this case, I used ScrapSimple Paper Templates: Washed and Worn. I placed the green paper in the layer above the paper template, used a clipping mask to "attach" the paper to the template, and then changed the Blending Mode to "Linear" to reach the effect I was trying to achieve.

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:
To really get the full, crinkly effect of the paper on my layout, I layered a green sheet of Scrubbed Raw Paper Biggie between two layers of a sheet of paper from ScrapSimple Paper Templates: Curled Edges. I clipped the paper layer to the bottom layer of the paper template layer to take on the shape of the template. I then adjusted the Blending Mode of both paper template layers. The layer underneath the green Scrubbed Raw Paper Biggie layer has the Blending Mode set to "Overlay," and the layer above has the Blending Mode set to "Luminosity.” The crinklies really pop once that top layer has the Blending Mode adjusted. The Blending Mode on the lower layer really affected the color of the paper layer. I also added an adjustment layer to the green middle paper layer and increased the brightness slightly.
