Digital Scrapbooking Layouts on Canvas

Recently, I put one of my digital scrapbooking layouts on a wrapped canvas. It sounds fancy, but I was able to do it myself for just a few dollars. Here's what you'll need:

8x10-inch wrapped canvas
Iron-On Transfer Paper
Craft paint and brush
Self-leveling sawtooth hanger

First, select a layout to print onto the transfer paper. Just follow the instructions included with the product to print the layout on the transfer paper.

Next, I trimmed down the paper by 1/4-inch on all sides and laid it on the canvas. I used a hot iron to transfer the layout to the canvas. (Again, follow the instructions that come with your transfer paper regarding the iron-on process.)

Note: When you start to iron, press the iron in one spot and then lift it off, and then press it down in another spot until you have ironed the whole canvas. I discovered the hard way that sliding the iron around will smear and distort the layout while it's being transferred onto the canvas.

Because the layout does not wrap around the sides, I used some leftover craft paint - in a silver leaf color - to paint the canvas sides.

Finally, my hubby nailed a self-leveling sawtooth hanger to the back of the frame for hanging.

Dynamic Brushes

Dynamic Brushes are a fun way to add interesting effects to your layout. They provide a lot of movement because the brush automatically changes direction when you sweep across your workspace. Some dynamic brushes also have a multi-colored effect, further adding visual interest.

I am going to show you how easy and fun it is to create your own background paper using a dynamic brush.

First, I placed ScrapSimple Paper Templates: Paper Textures - Recycled and colored it to my liking using the Adjust Hue/Saturation and Levels sliders.

Next, I loaded Dynamic Brush Set: Celebrate Spring and chose a circle brush. I set the brush size to 650 pixels and selected a yellow foreground color. I created a new layer and simply swept my brush all over my layout.

To create texture and blend my brush into the brown recycled paper, I applied ScrapSimple Tools-Styles: Blended 8201 Super Biggie - Lt 1 to my brush layer.

I used the same dynamic brush on a few more layers, varying the colors and sizes for interest. I also applied the same blended layer style on them. My background paper is done! Now, wasn't that easy?

FEBRUARY EVENTS

February Message Board Game: BINGO!

It's that time again! Join us for an exciting game of BINGO on the Message Board Forum in February! Pick 25 words from the list provided in the forum and send them in an email to [email protected] with a subject line that says "BINGO CARD - your SG message board username" by Saturday, January 30th (Midnight MST) in order to play in the first round, which will begin on Monday, February 1st.

Each day, members of the Welcoming Committee will call five random words from the Bingo list. Match just 15 of those words to win a BINGO. You must be first to call bingo in the forum to win that round. After a winner is called, the boards can be cleared and a new round will begin the following day. All winners win a $5 gift certificate to the boutique! We like to see lots of winners, so please remember that each person can only win one round during the month. Have fun!

If you miss the first round cutoff date, you can still play! Just send in your Bingo card at any time during the month and you'll be eligible to begin playing when the next new round starts. Everyone who sends in a Bingo card will receive a confirmation email that their card has been received. If you do not receive confirmation within 24 hours, please re-send your list of words.

Layout Contests:

February Monthly Layout Contest: During the month of February, many people turn to thoughts of love. What greater love is there than the love for family. For this month's contest, we want to see layouts about your family – either the one you grew up with or the one you have started. Create your layout and post it in the February Layout Contest Gallery by Midnight MST on February 28th. Be sure to list your credits in the description or under the EXIF Properties. If your layout is one of the two chosen, you will win a $10 gift certificate to the Scrap Girls Boutique!

Club Concepts Layout Contest: Post your new layout using the current club selection (either the Scrap Girls Club or the ScrapSimple Club) in our Scrap Girls Club Members Gallery or the ScrapSimple Club Members' Gallery. Be sure to list all of the Scrap Girls products you used. If your layout is chosen, it will be showcased as a Club Concepts layout winner, and you will win a $5 Gift Certificate to the Scrap Girls Boutique!
