Directions for one technique I did on this layout:
I used a darling paper template from the ScrapSimple Paper Templates: Office Use Only by Ursula Schneider, and I fell in love with the flowers, combined with the office-paper-type lines. So cute! I really wanted those flowers to stand out a bit, so I used Shalae's Dynamic Brush Set: Mixed Media (included with Scrap Girls 2008 Digital Scrap Link Class: A Fine Art Touch to Your Layouts) to help me out. I selected the blue from my daughter's shirt, created a new layer, lowered the Opacity to 30%, and scribbled on a few of the flowers. It was very satisfying. My only problem was not going overboard with this particular effect – in this case, less is more. I choose a coordinating color to highlight one flower which completed this look. So easy and effective!

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:
Merging one of Kerry's papers from her BellaFiore Collection Mini with my photo took some time, but it was easy to do. I first used the Lasso tool to extract my subject from my photo and copied the selected area onto a new layer using the Ctrl+J command. I then hid my original photo. Next, I resized the BellaFiore Collection Mini paper to my liking behind my photo. I zoomed in to the extracted photo and With a small, round soft brush, I carefully erased the edges of the photo and blended it into the background paper. Next, I added one of Brandy's ScrapSimple Tools - Styles: Holiday In Lights to the BellaFiore Collection Mini paper layer. I merged both the paper and photo together, after which I used Sarah's ScrapSimple Tools - Actions: Vintage PSE 6501 Mini to the merged photo layer. Finally, I positioned a frame over top of the photo.

Magnetic Play Board by Armi Custodio

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:
You can create some fun play boards for young children using your Scrap Girls supplies. Here I designed a swamp background and printed it out on a 8½" x 11" magnetic photo paper. I then printed some turtles, frogs and other insects using magnetic paper and cut them out. You can also use any medium weight paper or cardstock. Involve your kids and ask them to choose the background elements and game pieces - they will surely love their customized play board!

I love to use styles on my layouts, and sometimes I like to play with the settings. In this layout, I applied ScrapSimple Tools - Styles: Grunged Metals Super Biggie 4101 to the small triangles on the right side of the layout. I wanted to change the intensity of the shadow. After I applied the style I wanted, I went to the layer of the element and double-clicked on it to show the settings. I clicked on drop shadow menu and changed the Opacity to 85% and the size to 5px.

Want to give your frames a unique look? Stack them! Duplicate your original frame two more times and rotate each one in a slightly different direction. Then apply your drop shadow to each one. Now it looks like I have a stack of photos on my page.

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:
The club my son performed in was originally a hotel that was built in the 1800s. The interior walls had been stripped down to the original yellow brick, and it has a very grungy, yet warm look. I wanted to create a layout that reflected the "feel" of the club. I started my layout by adding a black & white version of a picture of the empty stage. (Of course, I took it before he went on because I was thinking it would make a great background for a layout!) Next I placed a paper, from Ursula Schneider's Grunge Guru Collection Biggie, with grey tones in it on top of the photo layer and set the Blending Mode to "Multiply." The photo showed through it the way I wanted it to, but it needed some "warmth." I added a golden toned paper from the same collection on a layer between the photo and the grey paper. I played with the Blending Mode for the golden paper until I settled on "Color Dodge." Now I have a background that reminds me of the grungy, yet warm look of the club.

Journaling: At 10 p.m. on Saturday, a tall, lanky figure commandeered the stage of Call the Office with a gritty guitar and two mates. This figure - Londoner Andrew James - looks just like the boy-next-door. But secretly, this boy can rock.
Under the alias "The Whipping Wind," James opened the evening with a quick set of original songs and charmingly dorky stage moves. "Tidal Wave," a strum-heavy romp with pretty, distorted chords, a crooning vocal delivery and interspersed trumpet yelps received much love from the initially small audience.
James could play this track with an acoustic guitar and melt your mother's heart, but when amplified, it had skinny-jeaned legs moving and Converse sneakers tapping at CTO.
The Wind's most successful tune was "Out," which featured a cacophonous, thunder-like synth sample and a catchy trumpet hook.
James' catalogue of smart and dirty indie-rock ditties was an apt opener, but his exceptional song crafting and boyish, yet confident stage presence warranted a prime time slot.
While the show was advertised as Nightwood vs. Modernboys Moderngirls, it seems the competition was for second place as both groups were simply dust in the Whipping Wind. - Ed Murphy | The Gazette

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:
I wanted the stencil alphas form Ursula Schneider's Grunge Guru Collection Biggie to stand out more against the checkered background. First, I clipped the painted cardboard-dark paper from Ursula's Again Collection Biggie to the alphas. Next, I duplicated each stencil alpha layer. On the top layer of each alpha, I applied Ariadna Wiczling's ScrapSimple Tools - Styles: Pencil Stroke 8201.

There are so many different scrapping styles, and I love to use templates like Syndee's ScrapSimple Embellishment Templates: Slice it Up to broaden my horizons. This particular template helped me a achieve a clean, graphic design that doesn't come naturally to me. The best part is that it makes it so easy to pull a great layout together quickly.

To make the chipboard word art title, I duplicated the "create" word art from the Again Collection Biggie. I hid the upper layer so that I could see the lower layer only. I added a 20 px stroke and then applied ScrapSimple Tools - Styles: Chipboard 6401 to the lower layer. I clicked the little "eye" next to the upper layer to make it visible again and merged the two layers together.
