Note from Ro: I had to laugh when I read this blog post by Shalae Tippetts in the Scrap Girls Digital Scrapbooking Adventures blog. It's just the kind of thing I used to do when my children were little.

Lost Teeth

Recently in our household we've been enjoying the excitement and drama of losing teeth. I had forgotten what an exciting event it is when you are little. Savannah lost her first one in June and then lost her second one about a month ago. She is always so excited to have the Tooth Fairy come and leave her some change.

But with the loss of the second tooth, the Tooth Fairy forgot to come, and Savannah was devastated. We tried to tell her that she might have been busy and that Mom and Dad had probably stayed up too late for her to come.

Well, Ms. Fairy forgot the second night, too. Oh, no! We let Savannah know that the Tooth Fairy always feels badly when she isn't able to get there, and she always tries to make it up by giving a little bit more money. That seemed to console her.

Finally, late on the third night, I slipped into her room and slid a dollar bill under her pillow. The next morning she was thrilled. I didn't think much of it until later when we saw she was toting around $10. Asking where she got it, and if she had taken it from Mom's purse, she said, "No, the Tooth Fairy gave it to me." I didn't know what to think. I could have sworn it had only been a dollar... maybe this was Savannah's birthday money? Beau told me it wasn't, because she had spent part of her birthday money a while ago.

How could I tell her that the Tooth Fairy only intended to give her $1 and could she give me the $10 back? I kept telling her, "I really think she only gave you $1. Are you sure this isn't your birthday money or some you got from somewhere else?"

The next day at church she passed by me with her primary teacher, and he was commenting on her lost tooth. Then I heard her declare, "Yep, and the Tooth Fairy brought me $10." I just about died.

This Tooth Fairy is going to be very careful next time to make sure she arrives the first night so she only has to leave some change.

ScrapSimple Embellishment Templates

I love working with ScrapSimple Embellishment Templates in my layouts! They are quite versatile, and I love the way I can be very creative with them. It's always fun to play with colors and textures.

Our Scrap Girls boutique is filled with beautiful embellishment templates, and for my sample layout, I chose Amanda Sok's ScrapSimple Embellishment Templates: Pulled Stitches.

To start working with an Embellishment template, I opened the PSD file of the template I wanted to use, then I went to Image> Duplicate.

With a copy of my template open in Photoshop, I chose a color to paint my stitch embellishment. This Embellishment template has several layers. I held Ctrl and clicked on the thumbnail "stitching" layer which selected that entire layer. (You will see the marching ants.) Then I painted with the Paint Bucket tool.

After that, I did the same with the layer's "tail" and "loose stitches" because I wanted all the stitches to be in the same color.

Next, I wanted to add a little texture to my stitches. For this, I selected the "stitching" layer again and applied ScrapSimple Tools – Styles: Paper Textures 4901. This made a very interesting effect!

Finally, I copied and pasted the same layer style in the other layers' "tail" and "loose stitches." In the holes, I applied the ScrapSimple Tools - Styles: Stitching And Hole 4101 Mini. With my Embellishment template ready, I went to Layer> Merge Visible and dragged my embellishment into my layout.

FEBRUARY EVENTS

February Message Board Game: BINGO!

It's that time again! Join us for an exciting game of BINGO on the Message Board Forum in February! Pick 25 words from the list provided in the forum and send them in an email to [email protected] with a subject line that says "BINGO CARD - your SG message board username" by Saturday, January 30th (Midnight MST) in order to play in the first round, which will begin on Monday, February 1st.

Each day, members of the Welcoming Committee will call five random words from the Bingo list. Match just 15 of those words to win a BINGO. You must be first to call bingo in the forum to win that round. After a winner is called, the boards can be cleared and a new round will begin the following day. All winners win a $5 gift certificate to the boutique! We like to see lots of winners, so please remember that each person can only win one round during the month. Have fun!

If you miss the first round cutoff date, you can still play! Just send in your Bingo card at any time during the month and you'll be eligible to begin playing when the next new round starts. Everyone who sends in a Bingo card will receive a confirmation email that their card has been received. If you do not receive confirmation within 24 hours, please re-send your list of words.

Layout Contests:

February Monthly Layout Contest: During the month of February, many people turn to thoughts of love. What greater love is there than the love for family. For this month's contest, we want to see layouts about your family – either the one you grew up with or the one you have started. Create your layout and post it in the February Layout Contest Gallery by Midnight MST on February 28th. Be sure to list your credits in the description or under the EXIF Properties. If your layout is one of the two chosen, you will win a $10 gift certificate to the Scrap Girls Boutique!

Club Concepts Layout Contest: Post your new layout using the current club selection (either the Scrap Girls Club or the ScrapSimple Club) in our Scrap Girls Club Members Gallery or the ScrapSimple Club Members' Gallery. Be sure to list all of the Scrap Girls products you used. If your layout is chosen, it will be showcased as a Club Concepts layout winner, and you will win a $5 Gift Certificate to the Scrap Girls Boutique!
