To get the photos to flow, I moved the top piece of Valerie Randall's ScrapSimple Digital Layout Templates: Curves 2102 up and the bottom piece down. I placed the photos layers in the center, above the background and below the template pieces.

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:
I created my frame from a ribbon in Trish Yochum's Spring Signs Collection. I liked the gold trim around the ribbon, but the purple coloring of the ribbon didn't match my page. To change just a portion of the ribbon's color, with my ribbon layer selected, I opened the Hue and Saturation box by clicking Ctrl+U. From the drop down menu, I chose Magenta. This will allow me to recolor only the portions of the ribbon containing a magenta hue. I then played with the Hue slider until I found my desired color.

Journaling: In 2010 I want to know my Lord and Savior better. I will read my scriptures daily. I will pray more fervently. I will attend the temple at least once a month. I will open my heart to the Holy Spirit and let the Lord guide my path in this mortal life.

To make the bold background, I simply placed a number of different papers on my workspace, then turned and twisted them until they were in a pleasing position. Then I placed my silhouette on top of all the paper layers.

I wanted to give some texture to ScrapSimple Layer Your Own Brushes: Flower Pot Biggie to add some depth. I did this using the Brush Set: Worn Threads. I stamped the flowers onto my layout, each on its own layer. I also adjusted the size and rotation of each flower for variety. Using a clipping mask (Alt+Ctrl+G), I clipped the paper from the Irish Bliss Collection to each of the flowers. To add the ripple texture, I held down Ctrl and clicked on the thumbnail in the Layers Palette to place marching ants around the flower. This allowed me to stamp only on the flower. I added a new layer above the flower. Using the ripple brush from Brush Set: Worn Threads, I stamped over my flower. Again, I rotated the brush for variety. To give the brush extra depth, I went to the Layers Palette, clicked on Add A Layer Style> Bevel and Emboss, using these settings: Style=Emboss, Depth=100, Size=5. I followed these steps for each individual flower.

To make my push pin look as though it was actually poking through the paper, I chose the Burn tool. Then, with the paper layer selected, I made my Burn Tool tip just slightly bigger than the hole would be and I burned the area gradually until it was dark enough to look realistic.

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:
To get the colors of the different word art (Water, Toys, Chillin, Sliding) to coordinate better with the layout, I needed to modify the colors. To do this, I used my Magic Wand, with Contiguous not set, to select the colored center areas of the words. I then clicked on the Adjustment Layers icon and selected "Hue/Saturation." I played with the sliders on the Hue/Saturation dialogue until I achieved the desired color.

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:
I loved the idea of making a check-off list to track my goals for the year, so I decided to put it on a calendar. The big question was how to track my goals, and how to encourage me to follow through? I decided to use the little circles with numbers in them, taken from Desire Collection Biggie. I simply copied and pasted the numbers from my goals to a day on the calendar. I lined everything up so it looked good, merged the numbers together, then used copy and paste to arrange the group of numbers on every date. Now, when I complete a goal for the day, I can simply check it off and keep track of my progress.
