"Your Year To Shine" by Jo Corne

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:
To 'thread' the 2010 dateline through Trish Yochum's Junk Love Collection Biggie - VineLeafCurl that is sitting behind the photos, I placed the dateline on a layer below the leaf and rasterised the layer. I aligned the dateline so that some of the vine leaf curls are overlapping some of the curls of the typeface. I then give the vine leaf curl a layer mask. I lower the Opacity of the vine layer to about 65% so that I can see where I need to 'erase' the vine leaf and then, using my Brush Tool, making sure my foreground color is black, I 'erase' part of the vine leaf that I want to make look like it's going behind the dateline. Once I am happy with the 'weaving' of the dateline with the vine leaf, I raise the vine leaf layer's Opacity back to 100% and give the dateline the styles of my choice.

To emphasize the title, I added an embellishment from Junk Love Collection Biggie, and then used the coordinating brush from Brush Set: Junk Love to stamp twice underneath the embellishment.

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:
The piggy bank embellishment from Nest Egg Collection Mini was a little too bright. I applied ScrapSimple Tools - Styles: Aged Photos 6301 to it then applied ScrapSimple Tools - Styles: Acrylic Bubbles Mini 1801. It now has the look of a puffy sticker with color tones that look good with the layout.

Journaling: I know that I need to get out a journal and write down all of the things that I want to do in 2010. I don't want these random thoughts to escape me: I want to wake up earlier in the mornings; I want to gaze at the stars; I want to show Rich even more love; I want to be more frugal this year; I want to play outside more with the boys; I want to read more; I want to spend more time in prayer; I want to send more cards and mail.

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:
It's my goal this year to stick to my morning routine. My routine is really simple, not much to it, but often vital parts are left out. Once I get my morning coffee, the first thing I do is sit in front of my computer. What better place to put the reminder to stick to my routine than on my desktop? I started with Assemble Your Own Desktop Wallpapers: Warmth. The collection includes several sizes, but the instructions that are included in the download made it easy to choose which size background paper I needed to use.

"Fireworks" by Jo Corne

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:
To put my fireworks photo into my title, I typed out the title using a big, bold font. I then placed my photo over the title, on a new layer, to get it as lined up to the letters as possible. I then clipped my photo to my text by right-clicking on the photo layer and scrolling down to the menu item "Create Clipping Path." This placed my photo inside the title text. As I had not merged the two layers together, I could still move my photo around within my text until I was completely happy with the positioning of the fireworks photo within the title. You can then either merge the two layers together or link the layers to each other so that if you wish to move your title around your layout, the photo will not move within your title and get its positioning out of place.

Sometimes you have a good picture, but this picture had colors that do not match the papers I would like to use. A good way to fix this problem is to transform the colors of the photo in uniform colors. For example, sepia or black and white. The Scrap Girls boutique has excellent tools for this. For this layout, I used the ScrapSimple Tools - Actions: Photo Basics 5001.

To give my photos a slightly vintage or cross-processed look, I used Ariadna Wiczling's ScrapSimple Tools - Actions: Altered Photos PS 8201. This cool action is also available in a PSE version.

Journaling: When I was your age, I wore whatever my mom put on me. You, however, have definite ideas on what you want to wear. Dressing up for school is a time-consuming affair as I bring out outfit after outfit for your approval. It is interesting to see your taste in clothes. Sometimes you are in girly pink, but most of the time, you are in black! You are an unusual girl, Lexi, and I love you for it!

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:
I wanted the layout to have a subtle border. First, I loaded Brandy Murry's Brush Set: Time Traveler - Clouds Biggie. On a new layer I brushed around the edges of the layout. Finally, I clipped the Midnight Flecks Paper from Trish Yochum's Junk Love Collection Biggie onto the cloud border.

Journaling: I have a long list of things to do in 2010. Keep the house organized and clean. Exercise. Scrapbook. Spend more quality time with my family. Continue working on my Masters Degree. Get a full time teaching job. Stay current with all my paperwork. The list goes on and on. I know it's pretty unrealistic that I'll accomplish all of that. But maybe if I just take a little time for me, even just a few minutes each day, I will have the energy to attempt to do it all!
