Super-Ness

Lately my son has been using the word "super-ness." I have heard it used to describe his daddy, Jesus and Superman.

He's quite enamored with Superman, so much so that he wore a Superman outfit for Halloween this year. When he took a look at himself in the mirror, he said, "I'm Super-ness." And well, I find it hard to disagree with the little guy.

My favorite memory from Halloween was when we were leaving the restaurant we ate supper at and my husband picked my son up over his head and proceeded to let him "fly" out the door and to the car. The whole time people were pointing and commenting, "There goes Superman." It was a Super-ness moment, if I've ever seen one.

Assemble Your Own - Embellishments

Tutorial uses Adobe Photoshop Elements 8 on Mac OS X.

These days, it seems as though you can customize just about anything! With Assemble Your Own products, you can even customize digital scrapbooking embellishments. Let me show you how.

First, begin by selecting papers and a photo and roughly place them onto your 12x12 inch document.

After placing the main portions of the layout, it is time to choose a tree! There are four options for trees in Trish Yochum's Assemble Your Own: Christmas Tree. I can't decide which base to use, so I place three of the trees in the lower left-hand corner. To select a tree, I toggle the visibility of each one by clicking on the eye icon of each layer on the Layers Palette. Ultimately, I decide to use the pear-shaped tree.

Now, it's time to decorate the tree. Uncheck the "auto-select layer" box and drag the layers onto the layout with the Move Tool. You can now easily move the small ornaments without disturbing the layers you have already placed.

When I finish trimming the tree, I add a small drop shadow style to each layer to add a bit of dimension. I then complete the rest of my layout. If you look closely, you'll notice that my rowdy children have knocked the angel off the top of the tree!

This challenge promises to keep you busy all month long. We're going to celebrate the season together on the Message Board through tasks and challenges focused on holiday and seasonal traditions and of course, there will be prizes in store!
