Using Durin Eberhart's Dynamic Brush Set: Scattered Pearls Mini, I created a new blank layer on which to "brush" these scattered pearls. First I just brushed on the layer to see what effect I would get, but then I tried holding down the shift button. This enabled the dynamic brush to "paint" in a straight line. I loved this look and then used two of the three brushes included in the set to create the lines of scattered pearls at the top and bottom of my layout. I used Durin Eberhart's ScrapSimple Tools - Styles: Scattered Pearls 5101 Biggie to give them the shiny, pearly look they have.

Journaling: My family consists of four people. My husband, my two children and myself. We are immigrants to this beautiful country we now call home and, as a result, we have very little extended family around us. This makes us a very close and tight unit. Being on our 'own' has made me very aware of the family we are, the love and friendship we share and for this, I will always be thankful.

To get the effect of the tiger jumping out of the tearing paper, I moved the layer with the tiger on it until it was just above the bottom layer of the ScrapSimple Embellishment Templates: Random Tears - Large. I used my Magic Wand Tool to select the part of the tear that was under the part of the tiger I wanted to delete. Once it was selected, I selected the tiger sticker layer and deleted the portion of the tiger that I wanted to appear to be under the paper.

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:
On this layout, I tried to make some of my embellishments look like they were part of another. For example, I used the "Family Tradition" word art from Brandy Murry's retired Table Manners Collection and placed it on top of my paper from the ScrapSimple Embellishment Templates: Keepsake Library Cards. I played around with the Blending Modes, eventually selecting "Darken." Next, I used my Eraser Tool with a brush from Brandie Valenzuela's Brush Set: Grungelle. With the Opacity to 30%, I slowly erased some of the word art until I acheived the desired effect. I applied these same steps to the swirl under my word art and the pumpkin sticker.

Journaling: The tradition started in 2003 when Jared decided he wanted to make homemade pumpkin pie out of the pumpkin we scraped out of our Halloween jack-o-lanterns. Since then, we save a little pumpkin from our Halloween cravings and use it to make our Thanksgiving Day Pumpkin Pies.

To give the green background paper a more finished, defined edge, I used my Burn Tool to darken it a bit. With the exposure set to 50%, using a hard round brush, I burned the Shadows range just a bit, repeating the process for the Midtones and Highlights.

I wanted the title to have more dimension. I duplicated the title and simplified the top layer. Then I applied Amanda McGee's ScrapSimple Tools - Styles: Water 6101 to the top layer.

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:
For this layout, I wanted a highly blended background paper with lots of texture. To achieve that, I selected a textured paper from Assemble Your Own Zoom Pages: Zoo. I chose the Zebra Paper. I layered my giraffe photo over that. Using a brush from the Brush Set: Well Worn and a layer mask on the giraffe layer, I painted over the areas where I wanted to see more of the background. I changed the Opacity of my brush, while I was painting, to achieve the varied look.

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:
To create my background, I blended two papers together. I placed a green paper from Ro's Space Kids Collection Mini on top of a darker green paper from Valerie's Batik Paper Biggie. With my top paper selected, I used Erica Hite's Brush Set: Paint Stroke as an eraser. I lowered the Opacity to 60% and erased the edges around my lighter green paper, exposing the darker green paper underneath until I achieved the desired result.
