Reflections of Fall Traditions

Winter is coming here in Ontario, and that means the cold, wet and snowy weather will soon be upon us. I enjoy the fall season because it is the time of year when the air has a slight hint of cool - time for a sweater but not quite time to get out that dreaded, bulky winter jacket. The leaves change color - beautiful colors of red, orange and yellow. And seeing the beautiful colors is always a breathtaking site to behold; nature is amazing.

The Stephens family has so many awesome fall traditions. It is hard to put my finger on a favorite. Here are some of the things that we do in the fall.

Taking a drive to see the colorful leaves.

A trip to the local national park to see the migration of the monarch butterflies and to walk the pathways.

Visiting the pumpkin patch and picking a special pumpkin to carve for Halloween.

Apple picking, hay rides, hot apple cider.

Baking apple pies, making caramel apples.

Corn Maze. We have a blast doing the corn maze every year. This year, we did it with friends, and it was even better. We all had a blast trying to find our way out. Of course, the bigger boys flew through the maze in record time and had to wait for over 20 minutes for the rest of us to get out. LOL!

Celebrating Thanksgiving - Canadian Thanksgiving was on October 12th. We had turkey, pie and fun times with family and friends.

These are all the activities and things that make the fall season enjoyable for me. It is all about the traditions. I look forward to them every year and we accomplished all of them this year! Now to start working on all of those digital scrapbooking layouts! The pictures are piling up!

Traditions mean that I can spend time with my family. It's fun and I love every moment.

Easy Page Pro Albums

I admit it. I love it when someone else does my work for me. I can't help it. I love when I've got something huge looming over my head and someone just steps in and takes care of it.

Easy Page Pro Albums are perfect for those days when you just don't have the time to create something for yourself, when you've just run out of creativity or when you just love the pre-created layout. Why mess with perfection?

Have you ever tried the Easy Page Pro Albums? They are wonderful! For instance, today, I needed to make a little gift. I ran to the store this morning, picked up some Altoids (for the tin) and ink jet sticker project paper.

When I got home, I opened up Amanda Sok's Easy Page Pro Album: A Blooming Fancy - Mint Tin. This Easy Page Pro Album is completely designed for you – with slots where you can slide your pictures behind. I admit it – the majority of my time was spent choosing the right photos and doing some photo editing. If I already knew what pictures I wanted to use, it would have taken me maybe five minutes to put the photos into place. As it was, I'm not the most organized person and I wanted a variety of portrait-type photos of my kids. It took me about an hour and a half, but I'll admit that halfway through selecting my photos, I remembered that I hadn't started the laundry, so I took a scrapping hiatus for 20 minutes.

This is what I came up with. I printed this on the sticker paper:

After printing everything out, I discovered that there is another really good reason to use this particular Easy Page Pro Album with the Altoids mint tins. The red and browns of the paper coordinate perfectly with the color of the tin! I had originally planned to paint the tin to match the paper, but I was thrilled with the coordination of the papers and the tin color. One less step for me means my project gets done even faster!

This had to take the record for my fastest ever completed project. As a matter of fact, I got this project done so fast that I even had time to make chocolate chip cookies. Yum. Now... if someone would step in and clean my kitchen for me, life would be just about perfect.

November Message Board Game: The Alphabet Hunt

We're taking your ABC game skills to a whole new level this month... and tacking on some prizes as well! This month's message board game is "The Alphabet Hunt." Every few days, we'll give you a new theme and a searching task and then set you loose to start building our list in alphabetic order! Find the specifics about game play in the November Message Board Game thread in the Monthly Message Board Game folder on the Scrap Girls forum.

For each item you correctly add to our alphabetic list in the game thread on the message board, your name will be entered into a drawing which will be held at the end of the month. Five winners will be drawn and each will win a $5 gift certificate to the Scrap Girls boutique! Additionally, the person with the most correct contributions to the game will automatically win a $10 gift certificate to the Scrap GIrls boutique! Participation is what counts big this month, so join us on the message board for the detailed rules, search specifics and LOTS of fun!
