I chose teabaglady's "2 Of A Kind" layout to scraplift, because I really liked how she incorporated multiple photos and paper strips. However, I altered it a bit by slightly tilting my photos for a whimsical effect.

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:
Caroline Kaiser's Colors of Fall Collection Biggie has a wonderful "French board" string overlay – I especially love it, because it was made with a textured jute string. I wanted to use this overlay as a way to "attach" my photos to my layout. To do this, I duplicated the layer and brought it to the front. The original string layer is behind all my photos and elements. The layer that I brought to the front is then erased in strategic locations – you don't have to be careful around the edges, because you've got your original string layer in place, and if you erase too much of the top string layer, it's not easily noticed. Once you are done, and everything looks the way you want it to look, add a drop shadow and you've got a simple, but fabulous, layout!

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:
To get that retro look of my photo, I applied Ariadna Wiczling's ScrapSimple Tools - Actions: Altered Photos PSE 8201 (CP Blue Yellow) and adjusted the sliders to my liking. Then I flattened the photo and placed it on a new 12x12 document. Next I used Caroline Kaiser's ScrapSimple Tools - Actions: Stroke 9901 PSE (Custom Color-Simple, Sepia) on the altered photo. After I applied the action and masked out the distracting background, I changed the Blending Mode of the top photo layer to "Multiply" at 70% Opacity.

"All For The Love Of Soccer" by Jo Corne

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:
To fit my son Aaron's photo to the shape of Caroline Kaiser's Colors of Spring Collection bracket frame, I first placed the photo behind the frame. Then I clicked on the frame layer to make it the active layer. Using my Magic Wand tool, I clicked inside the frame. This gave me a marching ants keyline of the inside shape. I made the photo the active layer, rasterized the image, inversed the selection by going to Select> Inverse. By doing this, I have now selected the entire area of the photo outside of the frame's inner shape. I hit Delete and this removed the entire photo except for the area within the bracket frame. My photo is now in the shape of the inner bracket frame.

I chose to scraplift Sara's (Three Tadpoles Mom) "Boys and Their Toys" layout. Because I wanted my layout to have an eclectic feel, I chose to use the same word art from three different collections. I repeated the word "daughter" three times; some are more noticeable than others, but the overall look of the layout is not overwhelmed by word art. I also used the word "love" in three different places as well. Odd numbers are visually pleasing.

This is a scraplift of no_idea's "Paper Route" layout (removed for publication.) To color the ScrapSimple Embellishment Templates: Spackling, I used my Eye Dropper tool to select a color from the green strip of paper. I hit Ctrl+U to adjust the Hue/Saturation/Lightness but made sure to check the "Colorize" box to get it to turn to the shade of green I had previously selected.

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:
I placed four copies of the image of my son with Avalanche, the horse, on my layout. I used one for the framed image, erasing any parts that extended beyond the frame, a second was used to extract the horse & horizontal section of the fence, a third copy was used to extract the vertical fence post, and I set the Blending Mode of the fourth copy to "Darken." Next, I arranged the layers so that the extracted horse image is on top, the framed image is in the next layer, the fence post is behind the frame and fourth copy is under the fence post. It's actually the fourth copy, with its Blending Mode set to "Darken" that gives a feeling of depth and really completes the effect.

For this challenge, I decided to scraplift Lynn's (kidsrgr8) "Trevor Learning to Golf" layout. I loved the sliced photo and the way she did the journaling. To make my sliced photo, I started with a large circle, filled with black, and placed it on the center of my layout. I turned on my grid and selected half of the circle. Next, I pressed Ctrl+Shift+J to cut and paste the selection to a new layer. I repeated this to cut each half into quarters. Lastly, I selected all four quarter layers, rotated them by 45 degrees and repeated the process to end up with 8 slices.
