Hotel Soap for Home Guests

Ever stay in a hotel room and have unused complimentary soap bars? Well, I have found a use for them! Over the years, I've collected these little bars of soap so I can use them for guests in my own home.

To give these mini bars of soap a more personal feel, I remove the originally wrappers and wrap them in my choice of pretty scrapbooking or wrapping paper. This way, every guest has a fresh bar of soap with each visit.

Alphas

The school season had just started as I pondered what cool thing I could share with you about alphas. My oldest started kindergarten, so the ABC's are a hot topic in our house while he learns to read and write. I often hear the question, "Mom, how do you write a G?" or "What does a little E look like?" I got an idea. Why not make some flash cards to help him remember what each letter looks like? I also have a daughter in preschool and these flash cards will also help her as she learns her ABC's.

The designers at Scrap Girls design some really cute alphas for each of their larger collections. If you shop the boutique frequently, you already have a wonderful stash of many different types of alphas. If you have a young child or grandchild learning their letters, this is a project you can easily whip up in a day or two.

I begin by opening my photo editing software and dividing an 8.5x11 inch document into four equal rectangles. This will give me four flash cards to a page, making it easy to print.

Next is the fun part. I search my files for fun alphas, papers and embellishments to create a flash card for each letter of the alphabet.

Once I have each card the way I want it, I print the pages out, cut them into cards, laminate and bind them together with a ring.

My son loves his new flash cards and they have been an excellent homework helper in our home.

Join your guest host April Showers for the East Coast High Noon Crop every Wednesday at 10am MT. These crops are designed to allow you to work on your own photos and themes, simply giving participants a one hour goal, and a fun, new challenge each week! On November 11th, we'll do a quote challenge! Create a layout using a meaningful, inspiring or funny quote. It can be in place of journaling, or use a beloved quote as a starting point for your journaling. You'll have one hour to create a layout and upload to the special High Noon Crop Gallery. You'd be amazed what you can get done in just one hour!

November Message Board Game: The Alphabet Hunt

We're taking your ABC game skills to a whole new level this month... and tacking on some prizes as well! This month's message board game is "The Alphabet Hunt." Every few days, we'll give you a new theme and a searching task and then set you loose to start building our list in alphabetic order! Find the specifics about game play in the November Message Board Game thread in the Monthly Message Board Game folder on the Scrap Girls forum.

For each item you correctly add to our alphabetic list in the game thread on the message board, your name will be entered into a drawing which will be held at the end of the month. Five winners will be drawn and each will win a $5 gift certificate to the Scrap Girls boutique! Additionally, the person with the most correct contributions to the game will automatically win a $10 gift certificate to the Scrap GIrls boutique! Participation is what counts big this month, so join us on the message board for the detailed rules, search specifics and LOTS of fun!
