I wanted my photos to line up vertically, so I flipped Marnie's sketch 90 degrees to the left. I lined up my photos along with Melissa Renfro's ScrapSimple Embellishment Templates: Lifted Photos Biggie in the same arrangement as the sketch. The colors and feel of cute animals and flowers from Marnie's Jelly Beans Embellishment Biggie went perfectly with my photos, so I sized them and placed them in the same general position as in the sketch. Then I created some rectangular shapes, skewing them just a bit, along the line of the now horizontal rectangle of the sketch and clipped Amanda Sok's Textured Cardstock Mega Pack 2 to them.

A great way to use some photos that maybe didn't turn out quite so well or don't really have any other purpose is to scrap a page such as this. These photos were all taken at different times, but by changing them all to black and white and creatively cropping them, I was able to use them together on a page under a unifying theme.

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:
I'm woman enough to admit that journaling is not my strongest asset as a scrapbooker, but I did want to include some on this particular layout. The sketch suggested that the journaling go on the left-hand side between the paper matte and the edge of the background, but because of the texture of the background paper I chose and the edgings I included, that was not an option for me. So I chose a journaling block from Amanda McGee's Play Park Collection and placed it in roughly the same position. I also chose to have my text read horizontally instead of vertically, as suggested in the sketch.

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:
I wanted to use Marnie's black paper from the Happy Haunting Collection Mini, but it wasn't quite as dark as I wanted. Using a "Hue/Saturation" adjustment layer, I moved the "Lightness" slider to the left until the paper was dark enough.

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:
To create the '09 and the "I love Dolphins" buttons, I drew a circle from the Custom Shapes Tool on its own layer. I filled it with color and duplicated the circle layer. Between the two circle layers, I typed my text. On the duplicate circle layer, I applied Amanda McGee's ScrapSimple Tools-Styles: Water 6101 - Clear Drops, tweaking the style settings to my liking by double-clicking on the styled layer.

Journaling: Being able to see and touch a dolphin so up close is an experience of a lifetime. The fee was expensive but seeing you so enthralled with these lovely sea creatures was worth the price of admission.

To extract out the sections of Marnie's sketch that I wanted to clip my photo to, I took the Magic Selection tool and clicked on the area I wanted to extract. Next, I right-clicked and chose "Layer via Copy" and this put my selection onto a new layer. Then, I moved my photo onto my layout and used a clipping mask so that my photo took on the shape from the sketch.

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:
I wanted the corrugated cardboard to show through the photos, giving the effect that the pictures are directly on the cardboard. So, I duplicated my photo layer, changed the Blending Mode of the bottom layer to "Overlay", and changed the Opacity of the top layer to between 50% and 75% - depending on the photo. Using the Blending Mode "Overlay" allows the photo to be brighter than the photo would be if you simply just change the opacity of the photo. Finally, I used the Brush Set: Edging 3 Soft to delete the edges of the photos and enhance the photo-on-cardboard effect.

I adapted Marnie's sketch to suit my layout in two ways. First, I flipped the sketch horizontally. Second, I blended the large photo into the background papers instead of framing it. Both of these adjustments created the sense of movement and mood I wanted to achieve.
