It’s finally here... MISCHIEF WEEK!!
For the uninitiated, Mischief Week is a week-long event of mayhem and madness, located in our newsletter, messageboard, and chat room. We have lots of games, contests, crops, and free classes for you. We give away prizes like we are losing our minds. Make sure you read the details about Mischief Week below! (And keep an eye on the newsletter because new silliness is announced in almost every issue!)
I have to run a sale and spoil you a little bit during Mischief Week. And so - even though we just barely had a sale and I knew Valerie might get annoyed with me - I decided to ignore her advice... because it is Mischief Week and I have to do some mischief.
I decided that not only would I run a sale, I would run the biggest sale we have had so far this year. (Neener, neener, neeeeeener, Valerie!)

Life Muses by Ro: Pineapple Chicken |
|
This is a recipe I shared on my blog two months ago. I’ve received a lot of feedback about it. People seem to like it as much as I do! I decided it should make the “big time” and be published in the Scrap Girls newsletter. So, here it is!
How to Make Pineapple Chicken
1. Fry up some chicken (or pork) cut into strips, along with a chopped pepper. The amount you will fry up depends on the number of people you are feeding.
2. Make the sauce:
Drain the juice of one can of pineapple chunks or pineapple tidbits. Put into pan along with 1/2 cup brown sugar and 1/2 cup vinegar. Bring to a boil. Mix about 2 tablespoons of cornstarch with some cold water. While stirring constantly, pour cornstarch mixture into the boiling pineapple mixture, a little at a time. Stop pouring it in when the sauce gets thick. (You might not use it all. If you need more, make up some more cornstarch/water mixture. This is very easy once you get the hang of it.)
3. Put the chicken/pepper mixture into the sauce.
4. Serve over rice.
Warning: Your family might like this as much as mine does. If so, be prepared for them to ask for seconds.

Digital Scrapbook Tutorial: Creating a Color Block |

Tutorial created using Adobe Photoshop CS3 with Windows XP.
When you do a layout, you sometimes need a way to balance everything. Just as you might cut a strip of paper for your page to ground photos and embellishments, you can create the same effect on your digital scrapbooking layouts.
To start, open up a digital paper. I am using a green one from the Easter Magic Paper Mini. I also add a pair of brackets from the Easter Magic Collection Mini for interest. They will intersect the strip, with room for a photo.
Make a selection with your Rectangular Marquee Tool.
Add a solid color by using the Layers Palette. Click the black and white circle on the Layers Palette. Create a new layer and choose solid color. I use white here and change the Blend Mode to “Soft Light.”
Erase the parts you don’t want and then add a layer mask. Select black and use a hard, round brush to “paint” the parts you want to disappear.
Here it is with all of the color painted out from in between the brackets.
I will now add the photo in between the brackets. Make sure the layer is below the brackets. Erase the parts of the photo that poke out from behind the brackets.
If we don’t want a simple stripe of color, we can add a ScrapSimple Paper Template to add interest. Here, I add a leafy paper template from the ScrapSimple Paper Templates: A Joyful Season.
Make sure it is above your color block in the Layers Palette and subtract it from the rest of the layout by going to Layer> Create Clipping Mask or Ctrl+Alt+G. Remember, the Blend Mode is on “Soft Light,” so you will get an interesting look. You can also try other Blend Modes or styles to get the effect you want.
Now you are ready to complete your layout with an interesting new look.

Club Concepts: We would like to announce that we will be looking for your help in creating these Club Concepts articles. Simply post your new layout using the current club selection (either the Scrap Girls club or the ScrapSimple club) in our Scrap Girls Club Members Gallery. Be sure to list all of the Scrap Girls products you used, as well as a short (1-2 sentence) description of the unique idea or theme your layout shows off. If your layout and its corresponding tip is chosen, they will be showcased in our Club Concepts article, and you will win a $5 Gift Certificate to the Scrap Girls Boutique!
