Life Muses by Ro: Are You Twitter-pated yet? |
Note from Ro: This is a post I took from my blog.

I’m just starting to get into this Twitter thing. If you’re not sure what Twitter is, I’ll update you. Twitter is basically another method of connecting with people through short, little messages called Tweets. You can only use 140 characters when you make a Twitter post so, by default, it makes you think carefully about what you want to say when you post.
You can read your Twitter messages in various ways once you have joined. Here are some of the common methods:
- On your Twitter home page, located at Twitter.com.
- In little Twitter applications. You can run them on your desktop, install them on your iGoogle home page, or do what I do... read them on your cell phone. I use a little application called TwitterBerry to do this. I prefer this method because then I don’t get involved with it unless I am specifically doing it. There are tons of applications and a quick search in Google will help you find them. A good application for your desktop is TweetDeck.
- Through your cell phone via text messaging.
- Via email.
You will use the same methods to send your posts.
Twitter messages are like mini-blog posts only, sometimes, people post back to you and conversations start up - if you have said something interesting. I quickly discovered that if you stick to reporting about things like your dietary intake (I just had a bowl of Cheerios) the conversation is pretty one-sided. After all, what can someone say back to that? “Oh, nice. Cheerios. Good for you.”
Nah... people won’t do that. But, if your conversation is varied and if you provide useful information to people, they’ll be interested in what you’re saying. (Not that I’m saying I’m interesting on Twitter, because I seriously doubt I am. I’m a beginner.)
The interesting thing about Twitter is that you’ll find - after awhile - that some fairly interesting people start to follow you. If you follow them back, you find out what makes them tick. I’m finding that part fun.
There are some Twitter-spammers that pop up every once in a while - my “fave” is the people who make a single post about getting a new laptop. But, you can block those people in a flash and so it’s basically a non-issue, in my mind.
I don’t know if you have noticed the Twitter gadget on the side of my blog. It shows my recent updates. It also has a link that will let you sign up to follow me, if you’d like. If you have a blog of your own and you install the gadget - or widget - your blog posts will go out as Tweets, which is nice.
Scrap Girls also has a Twitter account. You can sign up to follow here. If you do, you will instantly receive updates about the latest, greatest Scrap Girls happenings.
If you’re new to Twitter, do what I’ve done. Sign up to follow some people and then just watch the action for a little while until you start to see what’s happening. Then, start replying to people and you’ll be on your way.
If you’re really interested in how Twitter works - what the best practices are - there is a great blog called TwiTip that is very helpful.
See you on Twitter!

Themed Thoughts: Antiquing and Garage Sales |
Some favorite memories of my childhood are from various shopping trips. There were some paging “incidents” at a Wal-Mart once, and my mom and one of her sisters... well, I digress, but I do have very fond memories of going to Jefferson, Texas to go antiquing. I have always loved thinking about all the people who have had these things before me. What have they seen? Where have they been?
I have searched the boutique like a box at a good garage sale and have found for you just some of the products that would be great for layouts about your “treasures,” whether you are buying them or selling them!

Below are some collections whose embellishments, colors, and overall themes would work well for these types of layouts.

In addition to the papers in the digital scrapbooking collections, there are some papers and paper templates that I think would make for some interesting layouts:

Telling the story behind specific items is very important when composing a layout about a found treasure, I came across some great journaling spots in the boutique:

These embellishments and brushes can add great texture and dimension to a layout:

Finally, I have chosen some styles to share with you:
