“Love” by Launa Valente
larger view
Directions for one technique I did on this layout:
To make a sticker out of the “LOVE” word art from ScrapSimple Layer Your Own Brushes: Victorian Trading Card, I selected the word art by Ctrl+Clicking on the thumbnail in the Layers Palette and created a new layer below the word art. With the new layer active, I went to Edit> Stroke, chose a cream color, Center, and 50 pixels. Next I added an inked edge with ScrapSimple Tools - Styles: Inked Edges Neutrals 4102 to the stroke layer, and now I had a cute matching sticker for my page!
Software used: Adobe Photoshop CS3
Name of challenge: Valentine's Day

“My Love” by Janine Buckles

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:
In order to make the layout masculine, I used Brush Set: Grungelle, set to eraser, and “roughed up” all of the brushes I used, as well as the calendar template. To do this, choose the layer you want to roughen by clicking on its thumbnail image in the Layers Palette, select your Eraser Tool, and set it to Brush. Next, choose a grunge style brush and use it like a stamp to erase parts of your layer. It’s easy to do and the results, while subtle, can really give your layout a great finishing touch!
Software used: Adobe Photoshop Elements 5.0
Name of challenge: Valentine's Day

“Beauty” by Kara Swanson

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:
I really enjoy playing with angles in my layouts. Often, if I tilt an element or photo one way, I will tilt another element or photo the other way to balance the layout. I tilted the photo frame to the left to counteract the tilted Chinese characters on the right hand side of the layout.
Software used: Adobe Photoshop Elements 6.0
Name of challenge: Valentine's Day

“True Love” by Pat Bowman

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:
The journaling on my frame was hard to read because of the pattern on the frame, so to make it more readable without losing the detail of the pattern, I used the Dodge Tool on the frame. The results are subtle, but effective.
Software used: Adobe Photoshop CS3
Name of challenge: Valentine's Day

“Forever” by Jo Corne
larger view
Directions for one technique I did on this layout:
Using ScrapSimple Paper Templates: Victorian Scalloperoo, I placed the one I wanted as the background layer. I chose one of Ursula’s gorgeous papers from her Elegant Peacock Collection Biggie to clip to the paper template. At this point, the paper had a black outline in to it that I did not want.
Using my Magic Wand, I isolated the black outline from the rest of the paper and deleted it. This then left a blank layer underneath the paper. I filled this layer with a solid color and then used ScrapSimple Tools - Styles: Glittered Gelly 6401 Super Biggie. Finally, I used ScrapSimple Tools - Styles: Sanded Edge Black 6302 on the clipped paper to finish it off.
Software used: Adobe Photoshop CS4
Name of challenge: Valentine's Day

Best of the Scrap Girls Blog: Snow Story |
Note from Ro: Amanda McGee’s post on the Scrap Girls Digital Scrapbooking Adventures blog is a great reminder that we need to tell the story we are scrapping about. Thanks, Amanda!

Sometimes, pictures speak a thousand words, and sometimes they don't tell the whole story. It's easy to forget the little details, unless you take the time to write them down. Often times, it's those funny, little details that make great journaling for a very memorable digital scrapbooking page.
In this case, the pictures didn't tell the “snow story.” On one snowy January day, my son had said such a cute, little thing that when I looked back over the photos that I had taken that day, I remembered how funny it was and didn't want to forget it.
The journaling for this page reads:
This winter, it seemed like every time we went outside to play in the snow, you would get frostbite on the cheeks. You would turn bright pink and when we went inside you would cry that it was so itchy. It didn’t help that you kept eating the snow! So, this time we made a deal that you would keep your scarf on your face. If it fell off your cheeks, I asked you to tell me and I would fix it. I also asked you to try to keep the snow off your face. I suppose I did say, “try.” You were so cute trying to catch snowflakes on your tongue and eating the snow. It was difficult for me to insist on keeping your scarf on your face. But, every now and then, when your scarf was down, you would say, “Repair, please!”
(Definitely worth journaling. Don't you think?)

Way Cool Stuff Digital Scrapbooking Product Review: ScrapSimple Paper Templates |
Okay – admit it. Paper templates are intimidating, but aren’t they beautiful? When I first became a Scrap Girl and started hanging out around here, I was so impressed at the artistry that goes into paper templates, but scared to death to use them. So, today, I am going to share one of my favorite ways to use a paper template on a photograph and, frankly, it is way cool! I am creating this technique in Photoshop CS3.

The first thing I am going to do is open a photograph and place a paper template on top of the photograph. For this layout, I am using Thao Cosgrove’s ScrapSimple Paper Templates: Manuscript. I move the template up to the corner of the image.

I don’t want the template on the face of my daughter, so I use one of the brushes from the Brush Set: Grungelle to erase portions of the template. I set the Opacity to 32% and start removing the unwanted parts of the template. Now, I have some nice writing in the sky of my image.

I am going to add a second paper template from the ScrapSimple Paper Templates: Garden Gate - Biggie to the opposite corner of the image. One easy trick to use on paper templates is to apply a style. I use ScrapSimple Tools – Styles: Vellum on the Garden Gate paper template.
I am just about done, but I am one of those types that just can’t leave well enough alone. I turn off the image layer and merge the two paper templates together. I then apply a “Soft Light” Blend Mode to finish the image and create my layout.
