Question: Can anyone help me? I am new to all of this. I just purchased my first brush set and I'm a little disappointed that the installation instructions which came with it were only for PC users. I have a Mac and I'm not sure how to get the file safely downloaded in the right place.
Currently the brush file is in my downloads folder. When I click on them, they open up so I can preview the each brush. Then when I go to PSE 6, they are already there in the basic brush set. But this seems too easy!
Can anyone explain to me the correct path to installing brushes onto a Mac? I don't want the file sitting in my downloads folder and I'd like to know what I am supposed to do with it. I'm afraid to trash it even though they seem to already be in PSE. Do I have to add it to the PSE application folder at all? Any direction would help.
Answer 1: Different people organize their files differently, so there is not one easy answer. I am on a Mac also, by the way. I have a folder on my computer called “Digital Scrapbooing,” then a folder in that called “Tools/Supplies,” then a folder inside that called “Brushes.” I stick all my .ABR files in that folder. Then I install them just like you did, by double-clicking on them. Or you can also load them from within the software.
You may have to occasionally thin out your brushes when you get too many loaded. I just delete the ones from within my software program (I use PSCS3) that I'm not using as much. But then, any time you want to load them again, just go back to the .ABR file in your “Brushes” folder, double-click on it, and it will load again.
It really *IS* that easy!
Response: So, I don't have to drop the file into one of Adobe's application folders, like “Brushes?” I guess reading the PC version has thrown me off. Thanks for the direction, Cherise.
Response Answer: Nope, you don't have to keep the brushes inside the specific application brushes folder. I just keep that folder for the ones that came with the software. All my digital scrapbooking ones are just in my separate “Brushes” folder on my computer, with all my other scrapbooking supplies.

Question: I am new to digital scrapbooking and I have just purchased some brushes from Scrap Girls. I am having a lot of fun, and I want to know how to rotate brushes in Photoshop Elements 6.0.
Answer: To rotate a brush in PSE 6,
with your Brush Tool selected, there will be paintbrush icon along the top of your screen... it has a blue tip. If you click on this, it will open the settings. In the bottom left area of the settings is a white square with a compass-type thing in it. The direction the arrow is pointing is the direction of your brush. Click and drag it to rotate OR type a new angle in the “Angle” box at the bottom of the settings box.
Response: Thank you, Christy! The PSE help is a little vague at times. It's great to know there is help just a call away. It makes this a little less overwhelming.

Question: Okay, so I'm helping a friend who is trying to learn digital scrapbooking, and she sprung for the CS3 (Is that right?)... Anyway, the nice, more complicated version.
She can't figure out how to make things fit in a frame. I said, “Well, I use Ctrl+G.” But, that shortcut groups things in CS3, and doesn't do the same thing it does in PSE.
Can someone tell me how you do what we're trying to do in CS3?
Answer: They changed it with Photoshop CS2. You're going to find the shortcut is Ctrl+Alt+G.

Question: I am a PSE 6.0 user. I think the solution is very simple, but I can't fix this. I think it happened when my kids were helping Mommy with her “work!” When I select a layer to move, resize, or rotate, I no longer get the dotted lines around the layer. I have the Move Tool selected. I can select the layer in the Layers Palette and move the layer, but I can't resize or rotate.
I am almost done with this layout, and I think it is going to be one of my favorites. The pics aren't all that great, but it is amazing what a little scrapbooking magic will do!
Answer 1: I use PSE5, but maybe try resetting the tools. When you have the Move Tool selected, click on the Move Tool icon on the top toolbar to see the drop down menu, and click “Reset Tools.” If that doesn't work, save your layout, and restart your computer. That usually does it for me. Hope that helps!
Answer 2: Robin, do you have “Show Bounding Box” checked? It is in the toolbar just above your workspace. If it is unchecked, you don't get the dotted lines.
Response: Got it done! Thank you so much!

Question: I'm new to Photoshop 7. My color is going black and white. It happens when I try to open a new page or when I use the Gradient Tool.
Answer 1: I'm not sure whether it's the same in PS7, but in PSE, when you open a new, blank document, you have the choice of color modes. If it is set to “Grayscale,” it will change anything you place into it to black & white. I had done something in black & white one time. The next time I opened a new file, it was set to Grayscale, but I didn't realize that right away. I couldn't figure out why everything was changing to black & white!
Answer 2: There are a couple of places you can check, I think. One is when you open a new document - make sure the Color Mode is “RGB.” The other (which happened to me... not sure how!) is to go and look under Image> Mode and then make sure “RGB” is checked there as well.
Answer 3: Yup! Previous poster is right. Image> Mode and check “RGB.” It's funny, sometimes you'll get an element or something that opens in black and white. It always messes me up trying to figure out what is going on until I remember to check the mode! |
