Customer Muse: The Night Before

It all starts the night before.

I set my alarm, with all intentions to get up and run three miles in the morning. But, in the middle of the night, I am awoken several times with jolts of, “Mom, I have to go to the bathroom. Mom, I'm scared. I had a bad dream. Can you sleep with me? I'm thirsty. I don't want to go to school tomorrow.”

My alarm goes off at 6:00 a.m., after I have slept about three hours of the eight I've been in bed. I hit the snooze bar several times until I realize it's 7:00 a.m. and we have exactly 30 minutes to get dressed, brush teeth, make and eat breakfast (frozen waffles in our house), make lunch, check homework, find glasses, find library books, clean the kitchen from the night before, down some coffee, and water down crazy hair so that the bus stop moms don't think I am a psychopath. (Too late! I already reinforced that when I dragged my crying and screaming son to the bus because it was picture day and he didn't want to wear a “church shirt.”)

Then, I intend to throw a load of laundry in, but realize that last week’s load is still in there and it now looks like a science experiment! I then re-wash that load for the third time and move on to the dishwasher that I started unloading that morning. Left open, the dog has been licking the clean dishes. So, I re-wash the load of dishes, too. I drink some more coffee, plan on going to the gym, but forget that it's “take-your-mom-to-lunch-make-a-craft-career-field-volunteer-in-the-library-read-a-book” day, and I am already an hour late for that.

I get back from school, where I saw all of the happy smiling volunteer moms who manage to have remembered it's “take-your-mom-to-lunch-make-a-craft-career-field-volunteer-in-the-library-read-a-book” day. They asked me if I am going to bake 12,000 cookies for Teacher Appreciation Millennium, to which I said, “I'll let you know,” and plan on never making eye-contact with them again so I won't have to answer.

I sit down and turn on the TV, only to remember that I forgot to pick up my three-year-old at preschool. I rush out the door, trying to avoid a car accident while I speed like Mario Andretti to pick up my teary-eyed little boy, who doesn't understand why he is always the last one to be picked up at school. His wonderful teacher gives me a disapproving look but has a permanent smile (how do they do that?) and asks me for the 100th time if I am going to make costumes for the Harvesthalloweenchristmashanukkahkwanzaafestivaloflightsspringfling. I say, “I'll let you know,” with no intention of making eye-contact ever again, so I never have to answer.

We go home to a house that looks like a bomb went off from that morning’s 30-minute marathon. I begin to unload the dishwasher, but then I hear, “I have to go pee-pee,” which means, “I already did and pooped, too.” So, I chase my little one down the hall. While I am fumigating him, the dog licks the newly washed plates from the dishwasher I had left open. I add some more dirty dishes to the previously washed ones and restart the load.

Then, I remember the load of laundry upstairs, but as I walk by my computer, it calls out to me to check email. I have been asked to volunteer to manage the “race-for-the-cure-heartathon-breast-cancer-awareness-save-the-seals-help-planet-earth-entertainment-book-walk-for-life-read-to-your-kids” fund. I delete that one and read all of the funny, hilarious, too-close-to-home emails that my friends send me instead, and pay some long overdue bills while I let my three-year-old spend the entire afternoon being supervised by Spongebob and Patrick.

Next thing I know, I am ten minutes late to the bus stop to get the two older boys off the bus, so they are outside kicking their backpacks around like footballs. (They wonder why the zippers don't work anymore.) They ask me why I didn't meet them at the bus-stop and if they can play outside today, even though every day I tell them the same thing. “Snack, homework, and then you can play.” They scream and yell and carry on until they go in time-outs and I take away some privilege.

Then, once calm, they sit down and I make wholesome snacks for everyone (Pop Tarts and Capri Sun). I pull out the last two hairs left on top of my head while I attempt to teach a third grader about Ancient Greece and why it's important to life as he knows it! I read with my first grader and try to explain why we make letters with sounds like “y” and “ow” that sometimes sound like “e” and “oh.”

After two hours of homework, my husband comes out of his home office and asks me if I have planned anything for dinner. I pour myself a glass of wine and simply say, “I'll let you know.”

I walk into our guestroom, turn on the TV, sit down, take a nice long sip, and plan on NEVER MAKING EYE-CONTACT AGAIN, SO I WILL NEVER HAVE TO ANSWER! Then, I order pizza.

My husband gets the kids ready for bed and I fall into mine. I set the alarm for 6:00 a.m. because I have every intention of running three miles in the morning.

Some of this is true, some of it is make believe, but no part is ever “Patti Perfect.” To tell you the truth, I wouldn't have it any other way. I love my kids, love my husband, love my life, but, most of all, I LOVE that DOMINO'S DELIVERS!

The end.

(Until the alarm goes off at 6:00 a.m. tomorrow.)

What Customers Are Saying...

Happy New Year to all of the team! I hope to continue shopping during the next year because I love all of your products.

div

Thank you. This is one of the reasons why I will always purchase my digital scrapbooking supplies from Scrap Girls. Your level of customer service is always outstanding!

div

Thank you for the quick reply! I appreciate all of the hard work by everyone there. I can't wait to actually place my order and enjoy my new toys! Until then, I'll chill out with my family and enjoy our New Year's Eve snowstorm.

div

Angie, I just wanted to thank you again for your help! Your explanation really helped me out so much. At first, I thought I was in over my head, but you talked me down from the ledge. I thought you may be interested in seeing my first layout. Happy New Year!

div

You guys are AWESOME, especially Angie and Ro!

div

Thank you! All the very best in 2009.

div

Scrap Girls has been my favorite digital site. Your products are beautiful and the templates, brushes, etc., are so useful. Most of the files I lost in my recent hard drive failure were from this site and had been collected over two years. I am stunned that you were so eager to replace them instead of requiring me to repurchase them. None of the other sites are willing to do this.

div

Thank you for your response to my inquiry. I am so impressed with your integrity as a business that I will almost surely use Scrap Girls exclusively in the future. God bless all of you for being such a pleasure to do business with!
I can't tell you how much Scrap Girls means to me. I appreciate all that you do for us. You, Ro, the designers, the newsletter gang, the elves - well, everyone! My life is richer because of all of you. Thank you for helping me find my inner artist!

div

I love your product. In this economy, your club was the only one I kept because of the content! It’s awesome.

div

I just wanted to tell you how inspirational your muses are in the Scrap Girls newsletters and thank you for sharing your wisdom. I find I really identify with many of the things you say and they have given me much “food for thought.” Reading your muses has helped many times. Thanks!

- MORE Scrapbook Software Secrets Revealed! for Adobe Photoshop Elements

It's time for you to stop playing catch-up in Photoshop and start having a blast doing the more advanced tricks that you see other people and professional digital scrapbookers doing.

  • Take the world's easiest shortcuts to creating your own backgrounds, embellishments, and alphas.
  • Make sure that you don't make the biggest mistakes that digital scrapbookers make when they create layouts.
  • Learn fantastic tricks for using Scrap Girls ScrapSimple products.
  • Dip your digital scrapbooking self into some of those “other” cool tools that are sitting there waiting in your software for you to use such as paths, masks, the drawing pen, and more.
  • See how easy it is to install and manage new Custom Shapes and Styles in Photoshop so that you can make things that are creative and unique.
  • Learn advanced tricks for using tools that you already know and love.
  • Watch me make some beautiful papers and get a chance to peek inside of my layers. (Oh dear... That is the last frontier and I might be out of my mind to let you do it... NOBODY likes people to see inside of their layers. It is like having visitors peek inside of your dresser drawers. Very private stuff.)
  • See a new way for coloring doodles. (I'm betting that it will surprise you what tool I've used to do that with, too...)
  • Get “IN” on creating your own brush sets. (You do NOT have to have those impossibly long brush sets frustrating you anymore. In fact, when you learn this trick, you will wonder why you haven't been using it all along.)
  • Find out why Custom Shapes are so important to you. (Bet you didn't know...)
  • Learn how to cut out a title from a background or a photo.
  • And even more...

Note: These are NOT beginning tutorials. If you get this training and you have never used Photoshop before or if you aren't pretty sure of yourself in the software, you are going to be lost. You simply have to understand layers, where things are located, and all of the basic, important skills that Ro teaches in her Scrapbook Software Secrets Revealed series before you try to use it.

Don't Risk Losing Your Digital Scrapbooks

Ro personally uses Carbonite to back up her computer. While it won't backup external hard-drives, it is a fabulous solution for keeping all of your important documents on your C:/ drive safe and your backups completely up-to-date at all times. Using it has made her stop worrying about losing important business and financial files, because the backup happens without Ro having to do a single thing.

Acronis True Image 11.0 is Ro's personal choice for creating a complete back up (software, operating system, settings... you name it) of her hard drives. It is easy to use (no excess geek speak) which is why she is recommending it to you.
