Scrap Girls Event - 4th Anniversary Week!
|
Scrap Girls is turning FOUR years old! Yippee! We are having a party to celebrate... and YOU get the presents! Join us for a week of fun-filled classes, crops, challenges, games, and events. We've got prizes galore to hand out, so check out some of these great events!
Some of the games our team has planned for you are Trivial Pursuit, Boutique Bingo, Scrap Girls Word Search, Scrap Girls 20 Questions, The Never-Ending Story, and more!

Whack-a-Witch (a Whack with a Twist!)

high-resolution files
Want to make a fun Halloween layout? Or make a silly page with one of your Scrap Girls friends? Well we have the event for you! The game is called, “Whack-A-Witch.” It is very simple.
Just download this goofy picture of either witch and do whatever you want with it in a layout. This is very similar to the Whack-a-Ro contests we’ve had in the past... but this time you get to pick who you would like to star in the role of the witch. As long as you don't do anything obscene or something which would offend Ro’s morals (she’s fairly conservative, so remember that), you'll be okay. She has a great sense of humor so silly is good.
In fact, silly is very good.
When you have completed your layout, upload it to the special gallery we have set up: Scrap Girls 2008 Anniversary Party Gallery. Also, post the link to your layout in the thread found in the Scrap Girls Anniversary Party 2008 Forum, Major Event: Whack-a-Witch. Deadline to post your layout is Midnight MST Wednesday, October 22nd.
The person that makes the funniest layout will win the prize, which will be a $33.33 Gift Certificate to the Scrap Girls Boutique!

MAJOR EVENT: ScrapGirls Feud
34 ScrapGirls team members have been surveyed and the top answers are “on the board,” as Richard Dawson would say! Try to match the most popular answers as given by our SG team and you will win big! You'll earn 3 points for matching the number one answer and 1 point for matching any of the other top five answers. The player who scores the highest points will win a $25 Gift Certificate to the Boutique!
Please email your guesses to [email protected] with a subject line “ScrapGirls Feud - your username.” Number your guesses to correspond with the survey questions, please. Emails must be received no later than midnight MST on October 22, 2008.

Life Muses by Ro: Forgiveness and Freedom |
“Tha-ump,” went the metal bar as I pushed my way out of the heavy glass door. I rushed past the brick retaining wall that lined the front of the building, landing in the middle of the sidewalk. “I did it!” I shouted to the skies. “It’s over!” The freedom that spilled through my body was exhilarating. I had just survived my first college final exams.
I didn’t realize, until that very moment, how my studies had weighed me down. I hadn’t known that tension ran across my eyebrows, around my head, and down my neck. I didn’t realize, until that very moment, that my knuckles had been collapsing into my hands with fright.
But, suddenly, it was all gone. The stress had been relieved and my body relaxed into a soft body of chocolate pudding. At least, I thought it had.
I was carrying another load of tension that day. I had actually been carrying it for more than 10 years. I continued to carry it for 30 more.
The burden I carried consisted of a backpack stuffed full of hurt-filled bricks. The bricks had been placed in my pack, one by one, throughout my childhood and teenage years. Some bricks were placed in the pack by careless or unkind words said to me. Some bricks were stuffed into my bag by the mean things I said to myself. A few bricks, which were the largest ones of all, were created as I stubbornly refused to forgive.
I prayed about those bricks for years. I appealed to God for help. I longed to place them on the sidewalk and walk away from them forever. Through a series of events, my prayers were answered and I was led to understand that my difficulties could be solved by repeating phrases of forgiveness out loud.
“I forgive everyone, including myself,” I said aloud each morning and evening. “I release those who have hurt me and wish them well. I am free and they are free to walk forward into a new, glorious future.”
One night, as I spoke, a feeling of complete release occurred. “Tha-ump,” my heart raced.
Forgiveness. Freedom. Give one and receive the other.

Digital Scrapbooking Tutorial: Creative Stitching |
Note: Tutorial created using Adobe Photoshop CS3 with Mac OS X.
Incorporating stitching into your digital scrapbooking layouts is a fun way to add an extra touch of realism. I love using a variety of tools to help me apply my stitching. Did you know that you can use custom shapes, paths, and even fonts for your stitching lines?
For the following examples, I use ScrapSimple Action: Stitch ‘n Holes 8301 (machine stitch) and ScrapSimple Action: Stitch ‘n Holes 8302 (running stitch) which are handy actions that create the stitching and holes automatically for you!
Using Custom Shapes for Stitching

First, I will demonstrate how to use a custom shape tool for your stitching. Select the Custom Shape Tool, which is a part of the regular shape tool menu.

Next, select the custom shape that you would like to use. I am using a flower shape from ScrapSimple Tools: Custom Shapes – Blossoms 2101.

Make sure that you choose the “Paths” icon for your Shape Tool. Whenever you create a shape, you have the option to create a shape layer, create a path, or fill in the pixels. In this case, we want to create a path from our shape.

Position your cursor where you want to start your shape and click and drag to create the shape. (Hold down the Shift key while you drag to maintain original proportions.)

Once you have your shape drawn, it is time to start the stitching action. Using the ScrapSimple Action: Stitch ‘n Holes 8301, I select the small machine stitch for this shape. Choose the type of stitching you want and then press play.

After the action finishes, you can apply stitching and holes styles to the two different layers for a more realistic look. I use ScrapSimple Styles: Stitching and Holes 4102.
Using a Font for Stitching

Another fun technique is to use the stitching action on a font. Here, I use a bold font (Arial Black) to type the word “love” for my layout. Choosing simple, bold fonts at a large point size will help the stitching work best.

After typing your text, right-click on the layer in the Layers Palette and choose “Create Work Path” from the drop-down menu.

Once you have your path created, it is time to start the stitching action. Using the ScrapSimple Action: Stitch ‘n Holes 8302, I select the small running stitch for this word. Choose the type of stitching you want and then press play.

After the action finishes, you can apply stitching and holes styles to the two different layers to create depth and realism. I use ScrapSimple Styles: Stitching and Holes 4101.
I have always loved the look of stitching on my scrapbooking layouts and I’m thrilled to be able to create several different creative looks digitally, without ever pulling out my sewing machine!
Here is the finished layout using the technique of stitching around the font.
