Scrap Girls STAYcation Events! |
Scrap Girls is announcing its vacation plans... STAYCATION! The whole team is going to have a STAYcation this year, and we want you to STAYcation with us. Our Product Designers are having a STAYcation, too, and as a change from slaving away making beautiful digital scrapbooking supplies for you to scrap with, they're hosting chats all week! Trust us, you do NOT want to miss these chats. Our designers get out so rarely, this is a real treat!
We've got a schedule full of chats that our Product Designers and Welcoming Committee are hosting, plus our STAYcation Sale, games, blinkies, freebies, contests, prizes and fun! Come join our family on our STAYcation!
First up, Moss, our official Scrap Girls “Moss-cot,” has demanded that he be involved in this STAYcation thing. He wants to go on a STAYcation with you! Create a computer scrapbooking layout of Moss on vacation with your family, site-seeing in your hometown, or just hanging out around the house. Post your layout in the appropriate gallery, and the best layout wins a prize. Winner selected at the end of Scrap Girls' STAYcation week 2008 and will be announced in our newsletter.

For those of you new to this game, the object is simple. You must correctly identify the items shown in the picnic basket image. There are 38 items. Some objects may have multiple items, such as a brush on a paper, or a style.
To enter the game, send your guesses to [email protected]. For each item guessed, you must include BOTH the product name and a link to where you can find it in the Scrap Girls boutique.

The antidote to fear is sharing it.
I am so afraid. I feel fear welling up inside of me like a tidal wave that is going to swamp me and drown me. I want to talk to someone, but I can’t, I have to stay strong for the people around me. I can’t talk to my husband. I think he is so afraid himself that he can barely speak. He is getting quieter and quieter and more withdrawn and miserable every day. My older daughter can sense the tension and because she can’t talk (she has special needs), she is just behaving abominably. My youngest daughter (just two-and-a-half) feels it too, and she just talks more and talks faster, trying to fill the tense space that surrounds us all.
My friends seem distant - either through my own withdrawal or just the fact that they have their own lives and troubles to deal with. I can’t call my mother because of the time difference and because it would be unfair to tell her how I am feeling when she is too far away to do anything about it and when she herself is afraid for me.
I feel so alone. I am panicking.
I feel an urgency to do something meaningful in the next two weeks. To do something that will make a positive difference for my daughters’ futures. I want to write cards for all of their birthdays, write inspiring letters for when they are grown up. Somehow, I need to let them know how much I love them and how much they mean to me, in case I am not here to do it myself. I can’t bring myself to do any of it. I can’t even give my will a second look. I almost feel that if I did that, I would be sealing my fate.
This operation will be the third on my aneurysm. I survived the other two, so there is no reason to believe that this one will be any different. The risks of stroke, heart attack and death are the same, but surely the more times you face those risks the more you tempt fate. This time, there is also a chance I could lose the sight in my left eye. The only way they can block off the aneurysm in my brain is to block off the artery to my eye.
If I do lose my eye, at least I have used it well. I look at my daughters as much as I can and last weekend I went to an art exhibition to see Turner, Monet, Courbet, Pissarro and Gauguin originals - a real eyegasm.
I pray that I will survive intact. I want to see my daughters grow up into the amazing women I know they will become. I want to be there for all of their triumphs and stumbles, to cheer them on and to pick them up. I want to grow old with my husband and see our grandchildren. I am not afraid of death, but I still want to do so much in my life and I have so much to live for.
I guess I will just have to be okay then. Think positively and survive – no, thrive. Third time lucky and all that jazz. Please God, get me safely through this operation and hold my hand. I am afraid.

P.S. As a follow up to this muse, we have since heard from Sam, and this is what she had to say:
I am home and my operation went very well. They left the artery to my eye alone so my eyes are still both intact and I am recovering well. We will not know if the operation was a complete success until they do further testing in six months, but until then I will just think positive thoughts and be thankful for every day. Thanks again for your support.

What Customers Are Saying... |
This is a cute thread started by Burnsie. Others contributed to make 20 ways to save money to spend on your Scrap Girls habits!
Post: I love a sale and I also love guilt-free buying, so I've been reorganizing my spending so that I can purchase more in the boutique. Here are a couple of things I've done...
Pack my lunch! It costs a ton of money over time to buy instead of pack. I've been packing my husband’s and the kids' lunches, too. I save about $50 per week.
I asked my doctor for a lower-cost alternative to my prescription - same stuff, just less expensive. I save $16 per month - that's almost both clubs!
I compare superfluous things that I may want to buy to Scrap Girls supplies. A box of cookies... that's a Zoom Page! Goodbye cookies!
Patience. I wait to buy. If I like something, I wait one week and if I still want it, I might get it, but I usually forget!
Great tips! Especially the cookies vs. the Zoom Page! Except in my case, it would be Dr. Pepper vs. Zoom Page and I don't know who would win!
Great ideas! How about stop paying the kids for odd jobs around the house that they should be doing because you FEED them!
Coffee on the way to work each day = one Collection Mini or if you go to Starbucks... it's a Collection Biggie!
New shoes could be a... wait... never mind... I am NOT giving up my shoes.
I eat a lot of rice and peas (beans) instead of meat and save a lot. I don't really splurge on food, so it helps me stay in shape, too.
I always pack my own lunch/dinner and rarely eat out.
I don't have a car, but instead take a bus and it saves me a bundle!
I called my cable company and found out that I'm paying for a super fast Internet connection, which is probably more than I really need. So I can cut $40 a month off of my bill by doing that.
Lately, I've been trying to limit my driving, because gas is so high. Plus, every time I leave the house, I spend money.
I'm trying to make a point to use what I have, all those miscellaneous hair care products, soaps, lotions, etc., instead of buying new.
Cook more, eat out less.
My husband rides his motorcycle to work and recently found a job closer to home, so that is saving us a bundle, too.
I'm trying to find a way to work house cleaning into my budget. I hate cleaning house and my good friend’s mother is looking for some extra cash. My mother-in-law hired her and she does a great job, for a very reasonable price. But I have to find a way to justify it in the budget.
I've been taking advantage of store's coupons and deals, like signing up for email newsletters with coupons. Borders will even send you a text message that you can show to the cashier to get your discount. (Love that! No clipping and forgetting my coupons.) I love books, so I try my best to buy when I have a coupon.
I use coupons when I go grocery shopping. I save TONS of money. People think I am crazy, but when I show them my receipt they say, “I don’t know how to shop that way.” When I go grocery shopping, I save anywhere between 40-60 percent off every time. I use my coupons when the items go on sale. You get the sale discount and then when you use your coupon you save even more. Also, check out the bargain bins in the stores. You can get canned corn, green beans, refried beans, Capri Suns, bottled water, etc. for more than half off. (You can also use these items to store away in your emergency cabinet or give to a family in need.) My point is that the money that you save you can use for your Scrap Girl habits in the boutique.
I've worked soy into my diet rather than milk. It's more filling, has more protein and costs the same now. If I have a venti soy chai (if ordering at Starbucks ask for no water, otherwise some will make it half and half) I find I'm not really hungry for lunch... so that means my $4.00 at breakfast covers lunch, too.

July Board Game: Layout Reveal
Whether you travel on vacation or entertain right in your own backyard, summertime means fun! This month, we'll be having some fun as we play Layout Reveal!
Every day, a member of the Welcoming Committee will post a layout that is partially covered in a message board thread. A new section of the layout will be revealed each day until someone correctly guesses which layout it is. Once a layout is correctly identified, a new layout will be featured starting the following day.
Layouts will be found in the boutique on product details pages.
If you are the first to guess one of the layouts correctly, you will win a $5 Gift Certificate to the boutique!

July Layout Contest: Is the high cost of traveling keeping you close to home this summer? For this layout contest, we want you to be a tourist in your own town. Do a layout of your favorite place to visit in or near your town, a place you like to take out-of-towners when they visit, or an historical landmark.
