Computer scrapbook layout by Kara Swanson

“Fly” layout by Kara Swanson

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:

I loved the black paper in Brandy’s Planes, Trains and Automobiles Collection, but wanted to combine it with another paper that featured vintage airplanes. I placed the vintage airplane paper in the layer above the black paper and changed the Blend Mode to "Overlay." I dropped the Opacity down to about 40% so that the vintage planes are visible, but do not overpower the layout.

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:

I created the flower garland with the Varaie Formae Dynamic Brush Set layer by layer. On the first layer I chose a dark green and used the leaf brush. Then on a layer above that one I chose a lighter green and made the brush smaller. Then I brushed on a pink layer of flowers topped by a yellow layer of smaller flowers. Then to give the garland some depth, I added a bevel and emboss style.

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:

In the title, I wanted to modify the brackets of the brush ‘Thank You’ to make them bigger, with the right one including the two lines of the title below. For this, I selected each bracket with the Rectangular Marquee Tool, right-clicked on the selection, and chose ‘Layer via Cut.’ I then adjusted the size of each bracket with Edit> FreeTransform (Ctrl+T or Cmd+T).

Computer scrapbook layout by Paula Wright

“Surfer Dude” layout by Paula Wright

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:

To recreate the grungy and blended feel of this layout, start with a background paper that has a lot of texture: I used Diane Miller’s Desire Paper. Now bring a photo onto your page and scale it up to cover your 12 x 12 background. Use the Eraser Tool with a large, rough brush set on 35% opacity. Begin at the edges of your photo and gently erase until the background paper beings to show through. Leave enough of your photo background to be able to tell the subject matter, but little detail. When using brushes, place them below the photo layer; that way, the background detail of the photo blends over the brushes, making them look grungy, subtle and blended into your layout.

A Designers Life: Ariadna Wiczling

Things That Keep Me Going

Those of you who have several children will laugh out loud, but when I was supposed to stay home with my two children for the whole day one month after my second girl was born, I was scared to death. I didn't know if I would make it!

My older daughter, Bianka, is a very active child, looking for mischief all day long. As a nursing mother, I knew I was going to spend a huge part of my day sitting and not being able to react immediately in case Bianka decided to climb a desk or something similar. She also wanted to be hugged while I was nursing. What if they got hungry at the same time? Will they take naps at the same time, so I can nap, too? I had a thousand similar doubts.

Now, almost three months later, all I can tell you is that somehow it works. It worked during that first day, too! There are things that definitely help me to get through the day.

Number one – a baby swing. It worked like a charm with my first and works now, too. It is perfect for putting babies to sleep and keeping them away from their “loving and constantly wanting hugs and kisses” siblings.

Frozen food, which I prepared before having the baby or other “to go” options, like Chinese. I don't need to tell you how helpful this is!

Coke – I don't drink coffee, so this helps when I don't get a nap during the day or after a sleepless night.

Children DVD's – I knew that this day would come and my child would start watching movies. We have our favorites and a schedule. I can change or shower while she watches a movie and the little one is sleeping.

Internet – helps me stay in touch with the world, so that I don't feel so isolated chasing a toddler, changing diapers, nursing and cooking.

Camera – it not only helps me to preserve these precious memories, but also lets me step back a little bit. When the girls are in bed for a few hours, I start missing them. (How silly is that?) I'm so tired during the day that I don't see how much they change. I like looking at their pictures in the evening. Digital scrapbooking is just the perfect opportunity to do it.

This is a really crazy time in my life, but I love it. I know I'll be missing it before I know it!

I created this collection with having those male pages on my mind. I really like the way it turned out and I especially like the fact that it's so versatile. It's perfect for a baby girl digital scrapbooking layout as well!

  • Make sure that you don't make the biggest mistakes that digital scrapbookers make when they create layouts.
  • Learn fantastic tricks for using Scrap Girls ScrapSimple products.

NOBODY likes people to see inside of their layers. It is like having visitors peek inside of your dresser drawers. Very private stuff.)
  • See a new way for coloring doodles. (I'm betting that it will surprise you what tool I've used to do that with, too...)
  • Get “IN&qrduo; on creating your own brush sets. (You do NOT have to have those impossibly long brush sets frustrating you anymore. In fact, when you learn this trick, you will wonder why you haven't been using it all along.)
  • Find out why Custom Shapes are so importantto you. (Bet you didn't know...)

Way Cool Scrap Girl: We are so excited to have all of you meet some of the amazing people that have become Scrap Girls! We'd love to introduce you to our readers, too! If you would like to be spotlighted and win a $25 Gift Certificate to the Scrap Girls Boutique, send the following items to [email protected]:

- 500-900 word essay about your experience with digital scrapbooking, Scrap Girls, and specific examples of how we have helped you.
- A 600-pixel wide, 72 dpi copy of a layout you've created that uses Scrap Girls products, plus a complete list of those products.
- A 100-pixels wide, 72 dpi picture of yourself. (How fun to see who you are!)
- Permission to use your statement.

Customer Freebies: We get a lot of requests from you asking if you could share a freebie with your Scrap Girls friends, and we have come up with a way to do it. On Saturdays we will be sharing freebies created by you, if they are available. If you are interested in participating, download this PDF with the specifications and you'll be on your way. Please note that if you choose to use any Scrap Girls tools or templates in your submission, commercial licenses for those products are required. (Even our own designers must purchase commercial licenses for any items they wish to use in a non-personal manner!) If your freebie is chosen, you will receive a $10 Gift Certificate to the Scrap Girls Boutique!

Suggest a Challenge, Win a Prize! Have a great idea for a gallery layout challenge? Submit it to [email protected]. If your challenge idea is chosen, you will win a prize (such as a brush set, paper set, embellishment set, etc.). The prize will be a surprise, but you'll be sure to like it because you will get to pick out the one you like best from your category! Friday will be Customer Challenge Day, so keep an eye out on the message board calendar. It will be fun to see what YOU come up with for us to do!

divScrap Girls is giving away birthday gifts to our message board members! Of course, it is a surprise what you will get because birthday presents are always surprises! But you will like it for sure because most people like money... Oops! Did I say that? No. You did NOT hear me say that. Anyway, make sure your message board email address is current and that you have the correct date entered into your profile to participate.

Scrapbook Software Secrets Revealed for MS Word

Ro personally uses Carbonite to back up her computer. While it won't backup external hard-drives, it is a fabulous solution for keeping all of your important documents on your C:/ drive safe and your backups completely up-to-date at all times. Using it has made her stop worrying about losing important business and financial files, because the backup happens without Ro having to do a single thing.
