Life Muses by Ro: Creative Thought
I spotted this creative thinker as I was walking from the L.A. Convention
center to my hotel and couldn’t resist taking a photo. Don’t
want to pay parking? Get a motorcycle, park on the sidewalk behind
some large parking lot signs and hope no one notices.
Apparently, no one
did, because as I watched him, he got on his motorcycle and zoomed
away. Mission accomplished.
I’m not advocating parking your vehicles
illegally, but the guy made me laugh. Jean Caldwell said, “The
only truly happy people are children and the creative minority.” I
sometimes think that someone who is creative tends to annoy ‘reasonable’ people.
Or perhaps, they people aren’t really as annoyed as they think
they are. Maybe they feel a longing to be brave enough to be creative
themselves. And maybe they wish in their gut somewhere that they were
the individual who was churning out creative ideas.
True creativity
is a gift from God. I think this is why we are so awed by someone who
comes along and sees something in a completely different way. I believe
this is why we often spot a trend and run wild with it. We adore
freshness.
I suspect there are people who would march up to this guy
and yell at him for parking on the sidewalk. But if they did that (and
they would certainly have a point in doing it), they would miss the
fun... and
the irony in noticing the moment.

My Original
Original by Amy Lemaniak
This was one of my very first layouts. At first, I was hesitant to
do a “Do-Over” of it. It holds a special place
in my heart, since it was one of my first layouts. There are certain
aspects of this layout that I like, such as the word art. I was so
proud that I had figured out how to get a torn paper look, so I wanted
to try to carry some of that over to my new layout.
My Do Over
The first thing I wanted to change in my layout was my photo. I
took my photo as it originally was, and I applied Melissa Renfro’s
ScrapSimple Tools – Actions: Photo Basics PSE 5001. I
chose to apply the "Sepia with Color" option.
This Action gave me a
nice sepia colored photo with just a hint of color.
One other thing
I really wanted to change in my original layout was the placement of
my photo. I broke one of the first rules of composition by not following
the Rule of Thirds. I placed my photo smack dab in the middle of my
layout! Here, I dragged my photo onto my layout and put it in a more
visually pleasing location, then added a frame.
I also wanted to add
in a torn edge paper, just as I had in my original layout. This time
though, instead of doing it manually, I used Melissa Renfro’s
ScrapSimple Tools – Actions: Paper Tear PSE 5001.
Next,
I wanted to get my title onto my layout. I used two Word Art pieces
from Thao Cosgrove's Sisterly Collection Mini and two text boxes
to make the title on my new layout.
I finished my layout by adding some
ribbons, a flower, tag and other embellishments. Now, I have a nice,
new layout that feels more balanced and complements my photo much better.

What's Happening at Scrap
Girls?
You asked for it. You begged for it. You demanded
it. And now, we are pleased to announce that yes, it is finally going
to happen... Scrap Girls is having a digital scrapbooking convention!
Here are the facts:
When: October 9-11th, 2008
- Note: Convention begins at 1:00 pm - Thursday, October 9th and
ends at 6 pm - Saturday, October 11th.
How many people may attend?
- Only 42 openings are still available
(as of 5/12/08). Space
is limited and we are selling out fast. (The seats are already 3/4
taken and we've only had the sign-ups open for a week!!) If you are
thinking about coming, you better sign up right now. Besides, you
better get your airline tickets before the prices go up. That's a
reality. Get crackin'!
- If you happen to miss the sign up, send an email to [email protected] and
we'll put you on a contact list. If someone suddenly can't attend,
we will have them post their opening on the message board, will email
you, and you can work it out with them to take over their spot.

It's that time again!
Join us for an exciting game of BINGO on the Message Board
Forum in May! Pick 25 words from the list provided in the forum
and send them in an e-mail to [email protected] with
a subject line saying "BINGO CARD" and including
your message board user name by Sunday, May 4th in order to
play in the first round, which will begin Monday May 5th. Each
day, members of the Welcoming Committee will call 5 random
words from the Bingo list. Match just 15 of those words to
win a BINGO. You must be first to call bingo in the forum to
win that round. After a winner is called, the boards can be
cleared and a new round will begin the following day. All winners
win a $5 Gift Certificate to the Boutique! We like to see lots
of winners, so please remember that each person can only win
one round during the month. Have fun!
If you miss the first
round cutoff date, you can still play! Just send in your Bingo
card at any time during the month and you'll be eligible to
