Life Muses by Ro: Mystery
Dessert
This picture hides in my files, taunting me with its partially eaten
sweetness. It has to be sugary because I can see the cinnamon sitting
proudly on top of it. It looks like it might be some sort of bar cookie.
Perhaps, it is a pudding gone astray.
I know that it was eaten by my family
and I am guessing that it didn’t
last long. I wouldn’t have taken the opportunity to take a photo
of a dessert that no one was interested in.
What I know for sure about
this dessert is that I didn’t do
anything to help me remember what it is. Here is the thing - it is
so easy to do. Because I have a PC, all I need to do is right-click
on the image and then use the fields available on the Summary tab to
make a few notes. Then, when I was ready to scrapbook, I could have
made a few intelligent journaling remarks on my layout.
Lesson learned.
A little late, perhaps, but I’ve learned it.

P.S. Another way to make notations about a file is to use the
functionality in your editing software (such as Photoshop, Photoshop
Elements, or Paint Shop Pro). Here is the file information I have saved
about this layout. (Available at File> File Info.) This is how I
notate what I supplies I have used while creating my digital scrapbooking
layouts!

Tutorial: Using Levels to Change the Look of ScrapSimple Paper Templates
Note: Tutorial created using Adobe Photoshop CS3 on Mac OS X.
If you want to try something new with the ScrapSimple Paper Templates you’ve
purchased, I have a simple trick to show you how to do just that. Just
by using the Levels Adjustment, you can add different depth and appearance
to your templates. This technique works best on the templates that
have grayscale texture to them, as opposed to just crisp black and
white patterns.
First, I open one of the files from ScrapSimple Paper
Template: Coffee Stains and add a layer of red above it with the
Blend Mode set to "Overlay."
This is what the paper looks like using
the template as is.
Then, making sure my paper template layer is highlighted
in the Layers Palette, I select Image> Adjustments> Levels.
This
is what the Levels dialogue box looks like when I first open it.
To
change the intensity of the darks, mids and light tones, I drag the
corresponding Input Level Arrows. Dragging the black arrow to the right,
closer to the edge of the peak, makes my colors drastically richer
and darker, which is the look I am after.

box after I make my adjustments. If you make sure that the preview
box is checked, you can watch the changes to your paper template while
you work, and then stop adjusting when you’re happy with the
look.
Here is my paper template after the Levels adjustment.
I add a second
paper template, ScrapSimple Paper Templates: Scratch the Surface and
set the Blend Mode to "Overlay" as well.
The scratches are dark and
I want to lighten them up.
Making sure my Scratch the Surface Paper
Template is highlighted in the Layers Palette, I return to Image> Adjustments> Levels.
This
is what the dialogue box looks like when I first open it. This time,
I drag the white arrow to the left to lighten the scratches.
When I’m
done, my dialogue box looks like this.
And my paper looks like this.
I’m happy with the dramatic differences
I’ve made to the
paper templates and happy with the new red paper I’ve created.
Now, I’m ready to build my layout.

What's Happening at Scrap
Girls?
You asked for it. You begged for it. You demanded
it. And now, we are pleased to announce that yes, it is finally
going to happen... Scrap Girls is having a digital scrapbooking
convention!
Here are the facts:
When: October 9-11th, 2008
- Note: Convention begins at 1:00 pm - Thursday, October 9th and
ends at 6 pm - Saturday, October 11th.
How many people may attend?
- Only 120 openings are available. Space is limited because
we have chosen a location that will allow us to provide a more
intimate experience for you. We want our attendees to get to know
each other and come away with friends for life! But this means
that if you want to attend the convention, you better sign up right
now. (Besides, you better get your airline tickets before the prices
go up. That's a reality. Get crackin'!)
- If you happen to miss the sign up, send an email to [email protected] and
we'll put you on a contact list. If someone suddenly can't attend,
we will have them post their opening on the message board, will
email you, and you can work it out with them to take over their
spot.
Where: Salt Lake City, Utah
Location: To-die-for historic building called
the "Officer's Club", located at Fort Douglas
In the first three days this has
been available, more than HALF of our spots have filled! If you

May Board Game: Bingo
It's that time again!
Join us for an exciting game of BINGO on the Message Board
Forum in May! Pick 25 words from the list provided in the
forum and send them in an e-mail to [email protected] with
a subject line saying "BINGO CARD" and including
your message board user name by Sunday, May 4th in order
to play in the first round, which will begin Monday May 5th.
Each day, members of the Welcoming Committee will call 5
random words from the Bingo list. Match just 15 of those
words to win a BINGO. You must be first to call bingo in
the forum to win that round. After a winner is called, the
boards can be cleared and a new round will begin the following
day. All winners win a $5 Gift Certificate to the Boutique!
We like to see lots of winners, so please remember that each
person can only win one round during the month. Have fun!
If you miss the first
round cutoff date, you can still play! Just send in your
Bingo card at any time during the month and you'll be eligible
to begin playing when a new round starts. Everyone who sends
in a Bingo card will receive a confirmation email that their
card has been received. If you do not receive confirmation
within 24 hours, please re-send your list of words. We cannot
be held responsible for misdirected emails.

in a flash. Scrapbooking helps us remember the good times,
and the not-so-good times, too. We've all experienced loss
in our lives, but have you scrapped about that loss? For
the May Layout Contest, create a layout about someone or
something you've lost and remember the good times. Upload
your layout to the May Layout Contest Gallery and you could

runs until May 31st, at midnight EST!

Layout Contest: Everybody’s life needs a little
silliness in it. For the mid-month contest, we want you to
scrap something silly. It could be photos of your kids, pets
