Digital Scrapbooking News

I just have to do it. I have to run a sale and spoil you a little bit during Mischief Week. And so - even though we just barely had a sale and I knew Valerie might get annoyed with me - I decided to ignore her advice... Because it is Mischief Week and I have to do some mischief.

I decided that not only would I run a sale, I would run the biggest sale we have had so far this year. (Neener, neener, neeeeeener...! Put that in your hat and run around the block with it, Valerie!)

So hop right on it. I don't know when they are going to let me get away with this kind of sale again. Almost everything in the Scrap Girls Boutique is 21.9% off! But you know how it goes, I do have to turn it off soon, so here’s your warning: It will be over at Midnight, MDT, April 30th.

Mischief Week Continues...

New for Today...

Boutique Bingo

It's time for Boutique Bingo! Yippee!!! And Zaz gets to be your hostess! Woo hoo! (Let the dancing begin...)

So, do you think you’d like to play? Pick 30 products from the What’s New Section in the boutique and send your list in an email to me at [email protected]. It’s probably best to copy and paste the product name so you have it exactly as it appears in the boutique. Please make the subject of your email "BINGO Card" and include your Scrap Girls forum user name (for example: BINGO CARD Zaz).

Any emails received after Midnight (EST) on April 25th will be counted toward the next round of Bingo. We can’t be held responsible for misdirected emails. Zaz will send a response to you that she got your card. You do not have to register for each round of Bingo once you are playing. Your card is good through all the rounds. Today, Zaz will start calling words throughout the day.

How do you get a Bingo? You have a Bingo when Zaz has called 20 of your 30 products. If the Bingo is valid (which she will verify using the emails that you've sent her), we'll clear the cards and start over. Words will be called in the corresponding thread in the Mischief Week Forum (Scrap Girls Message Board> Fun and Games> Events> Mischief Week 2008).

Want to know what you're playing for? Each winner will receive a $5.00 Gift Certificate to the Scrap Girls Boutique! Have fun! Remember, you may only win ONCE. We want everyone to have a chance to win! So pick your product list and send Zaz that email! The game ends on April 30th!

Already Running...

Check out our Mischief Week Forum (Scrap Girls Message Board> Fun and Games> Events> Mischief Week 2008) on our Message Board for all the details on these great games. And don't miss the random games that are popping up all over the place... it IS Mischief Week, after all!

  • Moss Fairy Treasure Hunt. Be a star and win this treasure hunt! The winner will get a $25 Gift Certificate to the Scrap Girls Boutique. The rules are simple. Check them out in Friday's newsletter or on the message board!

  • Boutique Scavenger Hunt. Check out Friday's newsletter at http://www.scrapgirls.com/NL/Chit_Chat_080425_Fri_Scissors.htm if you missed the rules on it. There's an automatic $10 Gift Certificate prize available, as well as three other Gift Certificate opportunities!

  • Whack-A-Valerie. Check out Thursday's newsletter at http://www.scrapgirls.com/NL/Chit_Chat_080424_Thurs_Mischief.htm if you missed the rules on it. You can win a $10 Gift Certificate for this one!

  • Never-ending Story. This is happening on the message board right now. Check the Scrap Girls Message Board> Fun and Games> Events> Mischief Week 2008.

  • Posting Contest. A favorite at Scrap Girls! The top 10 posters for the week will win a prize, so get to it!

What else is happening this week?

Make sure you check the schedule below for upcoming Crops and Classes. We are having loads of them and there will be surprises in each one. (Lots of mischief going on!)

We will be having all sorts of games and fun on the message board, too. You’ll want to keep peeking in the board so you will know what is going on. So stay alert... Mischief Week means there is going to be all sorts of silliness and opportunities to win prizes!

See ya on the message board!

Customer Muse: Make a Difference

My husband and I have just finished watching “Noel Edmunds Christmas Presents,” featuring various people who need something special. Well, technically, they don’t need anything, but someone had nominated various people and requested that they be given a “special present” for Christmas.

The people who received the wishes are extremely special in many ways and for lots of different reasons. One thing that they all have in common is that they don’t think about themselves first. Jimmy and I both knew that the program would probably have both of us in tears – and we were right.

For about an hour and a half, the tears flowed and our noses ran, but they were happy tears. As the stories behind the people who received the Christmas presents unfolded, you knew that each and every person deserved their particular wish.

We both agreed that we would love to be able to give a special present. However, thinking about it more after watching the program, I realized that in our own way, we had given presents – just not in the big way shown in the program (trips to Disneyland, etc.) but in a smaller, more personal way.

Jimmy and I look after three owls and they help us raise money for a local charity. During our fundraising, we meet a lot of people and, with the owls, are able to touch their lives in a magical way. As I am writing, I start remembering some of the people we have met over the years. There have been hundreds (probably thousands), but I am only going to tell you about two.

We met a little girl of about three or four years old who had terminal cancer and loved owls. We decided we wanted to make the meeting special for her and arranged for her to have her photo taken with Merlin, a Tawny Owl. Her parents put the photo in a frame and, at the little girl’s request, it was always to be found on her bedside table. After she had died, we were told by her mom that the photo was always on her bedside table (even when she was in hospital) and when anyone commented about the photo, the little girl’s face would light up and she would tell them about the day she met Merlin.

I also remembered a blind man who we were talking to with his partner. We allowed the man to stroke several of the birds we had with us, and his face lit up like a ball of light. We also allowed him to hold three of our owls (of different sizes) so that he could run his hands over them and “see” the difference in their sizes and shapes. This caused his face to light up even more and a smile reaching from ear to ear appeared on his face. When we looked at his partner, she was smiling too and had tears running down her face.

Yes, it would be nice if we could arrange for a big expensive present for someone, but anyone can do that, it just takes money. What we are able to do with the birds is on a smaller and more personal scale – and in some cases, it can mean just as much or more than an expensive present.

Just like there will be people who say, “Do you remember when we went to Disney?” when something big happens, there will also be those people who say “Do you remember when I touched the owl?”

We can all make a difference. It does not have to be a big expensive present and something small is just as good. A gift does not even have to be something that can be bought; it can even be something which is free.

In some cases, all that someone might need is a hug, a prayer or a kind word. So, go on and make a difference to someone today.

What Customers Are Saying...

Dear Scrap Girls Team,

After reading all of the great comments in your newsletter today, I wanted to let you know that I am so delighted with your efforts.

Each day, I look forward to reading your newsletter. It carries so much inspiration and I get so many ideas that I want to put into action. I love the muse section; it makes it just a bit more personal. I LOVE it! If you did not go to all of the trouble to present the layouts and the products that go into making them, some of us wouldn't have a clue on how to put all of the products together and what is currently in your store. When it is presented to you in the newsletter and shows how the product can be used, it is so much different than just looking through a store and wondering how to use the item. My mind lights up and goes, “OH, oh okay, I could do that, too. Good idea.”

I also love how the products relate to each other, such as the collection, the paper templates, the brushes, etc. I go into the OOOOHHH factor again, because I love having more choices and add-ons for kits that I love.

I did join both monthly clubs, just because it seemed like the thing to do. But, after two months, I am completely captured and anxiously await the day when I get to see what engaging theme will be captured in the new kit. Then, during the month, I've noticed that some of the freebies coordinate with this kit and it's like opening another new present. Along with that are the samples that appear in the newsletter using the kit to inspire me. Oh, only for more time to sit down and create.

Now, I have to organize, organize, organize my entire inventory into a usable form. But, even without doing that, there are plenty of elements and details in each kit to give many choices. I also love having the coordinating alphabet included within the kit.

I only came across your site about four months ago, but it has grown to be my absolute, number one favorite because of the efforts you take to present your products, show us how to use them and help us along the way. I don't mean this lightly, as I had participated in a treasure hunt recently with a group of scrapbook sites and, as I was collecting clues and going from site to site picking up the freebies, I did not see a single site that had the depth that yours does. Sure, I will go back to some and pick up a kit or two. But, they will never be the site that I consider “home.” You have captured my heart with your knowledge, presentation skills, wonderful sales, devotion to the site and the customers.

Thank you for being the site that I love! God has blessed you with a wonderful talent and team. Keep up the good work!

Thank you all so much for remembering my birthday. I decided that it was time to try out the new Dynamic Brushes. I absolutely LOVE them. They are so AWESOME and so much fun to play with. As usual, Scrap Girls goes above and beyond, always bringing the newest tools and kits to use. I think one of my first orders that I ever placed was in July 2005, when I joined the Monthly Scrap Club. I am a devoted customer and will tell anyone if they want to learn digital scrapbooking that this is the place to be. Not only do you teach newbies the basics, but you keep challenging and teaching new techniques to those of us who have been around awhile. My favorite part of the newsletter is the section that teaches something new. Thank you again for being here.

Thank you for being so nice, so human and so encouraging. It was kind of you to go to extra lengths to make sure that I got my first monthly download kit. I recently was able to actually complete a few simple layouts and it has made me feel like I was finally able to learn something new again! Reading your inviting and inclusive newsletters is important to me and I am beginning to feel as if I have a new place to visit, as well as new, although unmet, friends. My mom died recently and, after years of being so close, I truly appreciate the warmth and kindness you all have shown me on the message board, as a newbie and in general.

I would like to express my thanks to you for such a great site you have. I look almost every day and every time I feel inspired to create more. I have never had any problems with ordering or any aspect of the site and always find downloading my purchases very hassle free. I love the layout of the site. It is easy to see how creations look and very easy to maneuver around.

It's my dream, that one day in the future, I will be able to create my own pages. But, at the moment, I'm still fairly new to scrapping. I have used Photoshop for years and I am a very avid photographer, but I have never found a hobby that really fuelled my imagination as much as scrapping. It has literally changed my life. Maybe one day, I will be privileged enough to have some of my creations from Australia on your site! Until then, I wish you and your team all the very best. I'm sure I have many orders to come!

April Events

April Board Game: Who Am I?

In honor of the month that starts the silliest way possible... it's time to get our silliness on! This month we'll be getting to know some silly and little known facts about our Scrap Girls Team Members as we play a rousing game of "Who Am I?" Every day, a member of the Welcoming Committee will post a fact about one of the ScrapGirls Team Members and ask, "Who Am I?" A new fact will be added daily until someone correctly guesses which team member is being described. Once a team member is correctly guessed, a new team member will be featured starting the following day.

Team Members include anyone featured on the "About Us" page of the ScrapGirls website including Product Design Team, Layout Artist Team, Welcoming Committee, etc. Answers to the “Who Am I?” puzzles can be found anywhere on the ScrapGirls site... including Gallery Layouts, team member bios, Boutique Layouts, etc.

If you are the first to guess one of the team members correctly you will win a $5 Gift Certificate to the Scrap Girls Boutique! Remember you may only win ONCE during the monthly message board game. We want as many people to win prizes as possible!

April Layout Contests:

Layout Contest: Say "Yes" to life! With springtime arriving here in the northern hemisphere, now is a good time to scrap the new life that is around you. Your subject might be new plants, baby animals, new babies, or even a new life in God. Post your layout about the new life around you to the April Monthly contest gallery before Midnight (EST) on April 30th and you could win $10 to the Scrap Girls Boutique!

Mid-April Layout Contest: Everybody’s life needs a little silliness in it. For the mid-month contest, we want you to scrap something silly. It could be photos of your kids, pets or yourself doing something silly, a practical joke you played on someone, or a silly story. Post your layout sharing something silly by midnight on May 14th and you might win $10 to the Scrap Girls boutique!

Ongoing Opportunities

To have your own essay considered for publication as a muse in the column for our special Saturday newsletter, send your essay to [email protected]. If your essay is selected, you will receive a $20 Gift Certificate to the Scrap Girls Boutique.

Way Cool Scrap Girl: We are so excited to have all of you meet some of the amazing people that have become Scrap Girls! We'd love to introduce you to our readers, too! If you would like to be spotlighted and win a $25 Gift Certificate to the Scrap Girls Boutique, send the following items to [email protected]:

On Saturdays we will be sharing freebies created by you, if they are available. If you are interested in participating, download this PDF with the specifications and you'll be on your way. Please note that if you choose to use any Scrap Girls tools or templates in your submission, commercial licenses for those products are required. The prize will be a surprise, but you'll be sure to like it because you will get to pick out the one you like best from your category! Friday will be Customer Challenge Day, so keep an eye out on the message board calendar. It will be fun to see what YOU come up with for us to do!

Note from Ro: Scrap Girls is giving away birthday gifts to our message board members! Of course, it is a surprise what you will get because birthday presents are always surprises! But you will like it for sure because most people like money... Oops! Did I say that? No. You did NOT hear me say that.

Anyway, make sure your message board email address is current and that you have the correct date entered into your profile or you'll miss out! (You will only be entering the month and the date, so don't be shy. We won't know how old you actually are!)

Check our message board calendar if you have any questions about what is happening at Scrap Girls. All event times are given in Eastern Time Zone unless otherwise noted. *NEW!* MORE Scrapbook Software Secrets Revealed! for Adobe Photoshop (Versions 6, 7, CS, CS2, CS3)

MORE Scrapbook Software Secrets Revealed! for Adobe Photoshop Elements versions 2.0, 3.0, 4.0, 5.0 & 6.0

It's time for you to stop playing catch-up in Photoshop and start having a blast doing the more advanced tricks that you see other people and professional digital scrapbookers doing.

  • Take the world's easiest shortcuts to creating your own backgrounds, embellishments, and alphas.
  • Make sure that you don't make the biggest mistakes that digital scrapbookers make when they create layouts.
  • Learn fantastic tricks for using Scrap Girls ScrapSimple products.
  • Dip your digital scrapbooking self into some of those "other" cool tools that are sitting there waiting in your software for you to use such as paths, masks, the drawing pen, and more.
  • See how easy it is to install and manage new Custom Shapes and Styles in Photoshop so that you can make things that are creative and unique.
  • Learn advanced tricks for using tools that you already know and love.
  • Watch me make some beautiful papers and get a chance to peek inside of my layers. (Oh dear... That is the last frontier and I might be out of my mind to let you do it... NOBODY likes people to see inside of their layers. It is like having visitors peek inside of your dresser drawers. Very private stuff.)
  • See a new way for coloring doodles. (I'm betting that it will surprise you what tool I've used to do that with, too...)
  • Get "IN" on creating your own brush sets. (You do NOT have to have those impossibly long brush sets frustrating you anymore. In fact, when you learn this trick, you will wonder why you haven't been using it all along.)
  • Find out why Custom Shapes are so important to you. (Bet you didn't know...)
  • Learn how to cut out a title from a background or a photo.
  • And even more...

Note: These are NOT beginning tutorials. If you get this training and you have never used Photoshop before or if you aren't pretty sure of yourself in the software, you are going to be lost. You simply have to understand layers, where things are located, and all of the basic, important skills that Ro teaches in her Scrapbook Software Secrets Revealed series before you try to use it.
