Life Muses by Ro: Killer Sheets
They looked so innocent in their shiny plastic packaging. Who would
know that they were instruments of mayhem and destruction?
Our tale of
woe started when the Paxman family remodeling project required one
of our sons to temporarily move into the spare bedroom. No... I
misspeak. It actually started several months before that when various
bed acquisitions meant that we suddenly had a spare bedroom and our
used mattress set became the spare bed. Since it is somewhat costly
to acquire new mattresses, I didn’t want to run out and
buy new bedding immediately and so our “other good set of sheets” remained
on the spare bed.
When Andrew took up residence in the spare bedroom,
I quickly began to see that my “other good set of sheets” was
losing its appeal. (Boys tend to do that to sheets.) And, since I needed
at least one set of spare sheets to prevent endless rounds of rewashing
the same set of sheets, I decided that I should buy some new ones.
Julianne
and I went to a local store where such things are sold and as I shopped,
I stroked all of the samples for softness. Before long, I located a
display with soft sheets in the right color. I was doubly sure they
were for me because the package they were in said they were on
sale.
It wasn’t until I went home and began making the bed that
I noticed the sheets were not exactly right. I had accidentally
purchased satin sheets. Apparently, the package of satin sheets had
become mixed in with the display of the sheets I was attempting to
purchase.
“Oh well,” I reasoned. “They are the right
color and they’re pretty. It might be nice to have satin sheets.” I
finished making the bed and went on my way.
When my husband saw them
he said, “Fancy.”
When he climbed in between them he said, “I’m
going to fall out of here.”
When he tried to get comfortable he
said, “I’m going to
get killed.”
I laughed at him. “Don’t be silly.”
“I’m
not kidding, Rozanne. The sheets are slippery.”
I sighed, thinking
he was being overly dramatic. However, when I tried to go to sleep,
I was dismayed to find myself sliding all over the mattress. I couldn’t
keep the blankets pulled up (they kept slipping off) and found myself
waging a tug of war with Gary over the small safe territory we had
discovered in the center. When we woke up the next morning, I found
that all of the blankets were lumped around me in complete disarray.
A
few days later, Gary was asleep in the bed while I was on a business
trip. When I am not home, he tends to migrate over to my side. The
worst thing that usually happens when this occurs is that he finds
himself a little disoriented when he wakes up. But, this time, he rolled
over with a little bit too much energy and the sheets felt the need
to get involved. He woke up as he was flying off of the edge just in
time to find himself landing with a bang on our hard floor.
The killer
sheets got him in the end.
- Ro
P.S. Wishing to please him, I purchased a new set of sheets this
morning. But, when I pulled them out of the bag I was surprised to
hear him say, “You didn’t need to do that. I’m used
to the killer sheets now.”
I guess it goes to show you that it
is possible to get used to many unfortunate things, if you love someone
enough - even killer sheets.

Tutorial: New Paper Looks with ScrapSimple Paper Templates
Note: Tutorial created using Adobe Photoshop
CS3 on a Mac.
I am always trying to find new ways to use my existing kits. I have
found that by mixing a favorite paper with a separate ScrapSimple
Paper Template can help put a new twist on an old favorite. One
of the best things about digital scrapbooking is that you can reuse
and reinvent existing items. For this tutorial, I am going to use two ScrapSimple
Paper Templates and mix them with another paper.
Open your selected
paper templates. I am using two paper templates: "TYO_SS_Paper_IceCreamShoppe_Checker.jpg"
from ScrapSimple Paper Templates: Ice Cream Shoppe and another
one from ScrapSimple Paper Templates: Wine Cellar named "TYO_SS_Paper_WineCellar_Huckleberry.jpg".
Next,
open your selected paper. I am using "TYO_Campfire_Cream_12x12.jpg"
from the Campfire Collection.

I want the checker paper to be
the first layer above my cream paper, so I hold down the Shift key
and drag "TYO_SS_Paper_IceCreamShoppe_Checker.jpg" onto my "TYO_Campfire_Cream_12x12.jpg".

I
set this layer to Blend Mode "Screen" with the Opacity at 80% and the
Fill at 80%.

Then, I hold down the Shift key and drag my "TYO_SS_Paper_WineCellar_Huckleberry.jpg"
on top of these two layers.

I am going to set this layer to Blend Mode "Overlay"
with the Opacity at 100% and the Fill at 100%. It adds just a touch
of light to the center of the paper and gives a slight burned effect
to the outer edges.
Now that I have the background paper the way I want
it, here is what the finished layout looks like. Love that new paper!

In honor of the month that starts the silliest
way possible... it's time to get our silliness on! This month
we'll be getting to know some silly and little known facts
about our Scrap Girls Team Members as we play a rousing game

daily until someone correctly guesses which team member is
being described. Once a team member is correctly guessed, a
new team member will be featured starting the following day.
Team Members include anyone featured on
the "About
Us" page of the ScrapGirls website including Product
Design Team, Layout Artist Team, Welcoming Committee, etc.
Answers to the “Who Am I?” puzzles can be found

It's time for you to stop playing
catch-up in Photoshop and start having a blast doing the more
advanced tricks that you see other people and professional digital
scrapbookers doing.
- Take the world's easiest shortcuts to
creating your own backgrounds, embellishments, and alphas.
- Make sure that you don't make the biggest
mistakes that digital scrapbookers make when they create layouts.
- Learn fantastic tricks for using Scrap
Girls ScrapSimple products.
- Dip your digital scrapbooking self into
some of those "other" cool tools that are sitting there waiting
in your software for you to use such as paths, masks, the drawing
pen, and more.
- See how easy it is to install and manage
new Custom Shapes and Styles in Photoshop so that you can make
things that are creative and unique.
- Learn advanced tricks for using tools that
you already know and love.
- Watch me make some beautiful papers and
get a chance to peek inside of my layers. (Oh dear... That
is the last frontier and I might be out of my mind to let you
do it... NOBODY likes people to see inside of their layers.
It is like having visitors peek inside of your dresser drawers.
Very private stuff.)
- See a new way for coloring doodles. (I'm
betting that it will surprise you what tool I've used to do
that with, too...)
- Get "IN" on creating your own brush sets.
(You do NOT have to have those impossibly long brush sets frustrating
you anymore. In fact, when you learn this trick, you will wonder
why you haven't been using it all along.)
- Find out why Custom Shapes are so important
to you. (Bet you didn't know...)
- Learn how to cut out a title from a background
or a photo.
- And even more...
Note: These are NOT beginning
tutorials. If you get this training and you have never used Photoshop
before or if you aren't pretty sure of yourself in the software,
you are going to be lost. You simply have to understand layers,
where things are located, and all of the basic, important skills
that Ro teaches in her Scrapbook

Ro personally uses Carbonite
to back up her computer. While it won't backup external hard-drives,
it is a fabulous solution for keeping all of your important documents
on your C:/ drive safe and your backups completely up-to-date
at all times. Using it has made her stop worrying about losing
important business and financial files, because the backup happens
without Ro having to do a single thing.

Hard drives do fail. Don't
think they won't and that you will escape from it happening
to you forever. Just get a plan for managing what will happen
someday and save yourself a lot of pain, sweat, agony and tears.
You need several methods of backing
up in case one of them fail. Acronis True Image 11.0 is
Ro's personal choice for creating a complete back up (software,
operating system, settings... you name it) of her hard drives.
It is easy to use (no excess geek speak) which is why she is
recommending it to you.
